~TERRANCE~
My earbuds fall out, so I decide now is the time to take a water break. I can barely breath and the sweat is making me feel gross and uncomfortable. However, that very sweat lets me know that it's working. On the other hand, I can't feel my legs.
I hate losing weight.
But, I have to! Happy wife, happy life. That's what they say, yeah? Well, I guess I should say fiancé. That's what I get for falling in love with a vegetarian. I guess love works in mysterious ways. I just wish that... she wasn't so demanding of me sometimes. I know I have to drop a few pounds but I can't live off of plants like a herbivore! Humans are omnivores! Plants and meat! I don't know why people are stressing over only eating plants. Meat these days... yeah, they have antibiotics and whatnot, but at least it's meat. You know it's gone too far when they have organic fucking fruit! I know why it's organic, but still! Humans have been eating this stuff since what...forever?
I just don't see the big deal. Like I can tell her that, though.
I walk over to the water fountain and stop to admire the park. The little kiddies are running around, getting hurt, the usual. When I turn to face the fountain, somebody already decided to lean down and drink. Did they not see me standing directly in front of the fountain? Whatever, that's my fault for not drinking it fast enough.
That's when I notice the woman drinking from the fountain. The first thing that comes to mind is how long and beautiful her black, silky hair was. I could just... run my fingers through. Then, I notice the water hitting her soft looking lips. Her lids cover her eyes, but I can guess that her eyes are beautiful. Last, I notice her weight. On the heavy side. She's still hot, though.

Suddenly her eyelids lift to reveal haunting grey eyes. Her red lips smirk as she continues to drink from the fountain. She finally finishes and wipes her mouth; my eyes don't blink this whole time.
"Hey." She greets. Her voice is a little raspy. Cute. No, hot.
"Uh... hey." I say hoping she didn't notice that I was checking her out.
"You jogging?" She asks still smiling.
"Yeah. My fiancé is really into staying fit; and to make things more difficult, she's a vegetarian." I laugh.
She scrunches up her nose slightly in disgust when I say vegetarian.
"Well, that's cool that you love your fiancé enough to sacrifice meat for her. I wouldn't be able to make that sacrifice. Me and my brother were just jogging, too. He thinks I should shed as much fat as possible if I'm ever going to find a boyfriend. He's right, though."
"Naw. Don't say that. You actually look just fine how you are now."
"Is that why you were watching me drink water like that?" She smirks.
Her words take me off guard and I start searching for a response, an excuse, something! But, I end up shrugging my shoulders. "Looks like I got caught. Sorry if I creeped you out or anything."
She frowns. "Actually, I was kind of hoping you were going to ask to hang out. Then you said you have a fiancé." The look of disappointment makes me feel bad.
"Don't feel bad for me. I would feel better if we keep the positive vibes alive. No pity."
My heart sinks slightly for this woman. I don't even know her name.
"My name's Terrance." I reach out to shake her hand.
She smiles and takes my hand to shake it. "Bea. Nice to meet you, Terrance."
Bea. That's a cute name.
"Bea! Why aren't you jogging?" A guy jogs up to us and his eyes strike me as cold and unfeeling. His shirt is red and his jogging shorts are black. His body is well more defined than mine is. It kind of makes me feel like I should keep jogging. He looks normal, but his aura is so...
"Terrance. This is my brother, Aron." She seems excited to introduce me to her brother.
"Terrance. Yeah, you look like a Terrance. It's funny because the word 'ran' is in your name and you don't look like you can run very well." Aron chuckles.
"Uh... nice to meet you, too?" I honestly don't know how to respond to him.
I open my mouth to make small talk, but Aron is distracted. He's looking at a young woman who is yelling at some guy. I don't know the context, but the lady is just fuming in rage. Bea sees us looking, and so she looks and immediately looses interest from the scene.
"I'll leave you two alone. I smell something delicious." Aron confidently walks towards the angry lady.
I ignore him. He called me fat. I don't like him that much.
"Sorry about that. My brother can be a bit mean, but he jokes around a lot. Mostly it's sarcasm, but you get the point. Sorry." She looks down awkwardly.
"No problem. I had a brother. He reminds me of him. I try not to think about him too much. You see, he... he's been gone for 2 years now."
Her eyes widen in surprise and... pity. I don't want pity.
I guess she sees my facial expression change so she changes hers too. Her face went from pitiful to cheerful. I wonder if she saw when my face did that. Damn. Why are human beings so... unintentionally offensive?
Why am I not good enough for my fiancé?
I didn't even know I felt that way.
"Wanna hang out? Platonically speaking of course." I ask.
Her eyes look sad for a moment, suddenly she smiles brightly. "How about now? I'm starving. My brother didn't let me eat breakfast this morning, so how about brunch?"
"Cool. I'm down. I must warn you. A black man knows how to handle his food." I laugh.
She laughs. "Handsome and funny. I like you. Kinda wish you weren't getting married."
"Well, don't worry about that. Some things aren't meant to be." I inform.
"Whatever." She snaps a bit uncharacteristically.
I furrow by eyebrows. "Okay? So... no brunch?"
"I already said I wanted to go. C'mon. I'll pay." She says with that cute rasp.
I usually pay, but I'm down with feminism. If she wants to pay, I'm all good. Plus, I left my wallet at home.
