André rises from his bed, out of breath and shellshocked.
“Oh, good. It was just a dream” he says, sighing.
He goes through his morning routine and grabs his phone to see the reminder for the mornings coffee meetup, and heads to his closet. Dressed in a semi-casual floral summer shirt, black shorts, and all-black sneakers, André walks out to his car.
But, when he turns the key in the ignition, his plans fall to a standstill when the car doesn't start.
André tries to start the car several times, before realizing that the battery has ran low and needs to be jumpstarted.
“No, no, no! You have to be kidding me!"
As his stress rises, he quickly mulls over ways to get to the date on time.
"How am I going to...?"
A memory flashes in his head, reminding him that Tiana likely has the jump cords in her car, as he lent her them before they broke up, and has yet to get them back.
After taking a deep breath and a moment of hesitation, he goes up the steps of Tiana's home and briskly taps the doorbell.
“One second please!” Tiana yells, before clacking down the stairs and opening the door.
“Oh, André. Hi-” she says, in surprise of André’s presence.
André awkwardly responds “Hey, neighbor”.
“I completely forgot you were still living around here.”, she responds nervously.
Equally nervous, André responds “Ah no worries. Hey, I wanted to know if you had the jump starter kit. Y'know, the one I lent to you before...well you know”.
“Oh. Yeah. I do. Come in if you like, it’s in one of my cabinets” Tiana says.
André walks in and attempts to make things less awkward by asking questions.
“So...um... how’s work been for you?”.
“Oh work? It’s been pretty good. I’ve been commissioned by a couple of museums to make pieces for them, and they’ve gotten good reactions”. She responds. “What about you?”.
“Good, good. I’ve been promoted to Marketing Director over at Mountainpeak”. André responds.
“There you go! That’s a position you’ve been wanting for some time!” she shouts with joy.
“Thanks. I’m glad to see your doing well with painting again" André responding.
“Ah hah, here it is.”
Tiana hands André the kit, and walks him back to the door.
“Thanks again” André tells Tiana.
“Ah, no problem. It was nice to see you again”. Tiana states.
André’s mind flashes to the dream, enticing him to make it, or at least the first half a reality. But before André could make any decision, he notices the man from before kissing Tiana in a dorky couple manner. He realizes that their time together is over, and the final sign for him to move on.
“It sure was. See you around?” André says.
“Yep.” Tiana responds. “See you around”.
With some additional help, André was able to jump start his car’s battery and depart for the coffee date. The two say their goodbyes, and André drives off. The morning of coffee became a day-long date, providing André with a new chance at love, which he would be a fool not to take. The past, which led to the demise of his first relationship is finally behind him. And it is time for André to use gave him the moment, the perspective, and the learning opportunity to enter a new era of romance.
