The agitation reigned in the magitek ship, all the soldiers were busy at their posts, busy making the last checks. There was no room for error. Varis, in his private cabin, equipped himself with his armatus, checked its functions thoroughly. The stress began to seize him, it was the D-day, finally. Regula sneaked into the room. After having taken care to lock the door, he tenderly embraced his beloved.
"Tell me everything is ready."
"Everything is ready Your Majesty" replied Regula with a penetrating look.
"Hmpf I am not yet Emperor, soon." He retorted teasingly.
“Yes soon my love, you are glorious. I almost forgot how sexy you are in your Armatus.”
“Regula this is hardly the time.”
“Kiss me, love.”
How could he resist to him when he was talking to him with this suave voice. Varis attracted Regula against his chest and gave him a last encouragement before the battle. He untied his lips from his beloved and look at him in the eyes.
“Don’t die my love.”
“Neither do you Varis.”
They joined the other Legatus in the main hall of the magitek airship.
"How things are going down there ?” asked Varis.
“Everyone is set Your Grace. We await for your signal. Other airships are following us. If I may, where is Lady Petra ? She’s not traveling in our airship ?” questionned the young Troy van Brachium suspicious. He was obviously very eager to see Petra joining them on the battle.
“Don’t worry child, I gave her a specific mission. She will be there.”
“I hope so, she made a promess.”
Varis faked a smile. As soon as possible he will sent Troy away from him. The young man was already getting the Prince on his nerves. A brutal tremor destabilized the whole crew on board.
“Ready yourself, it’s time !” shouted Prince Varis.
With a determined gesture, Varis put his helmet on his face. He grabbed his two weapons of predilection, connected to his Armatus.
“Open the roof.”
The pilot immediately obeyed the Prince orders. Varis spread out the wings of his Armatus and flee away in the Triumph plain sky. The first goal was to destroy the magitek barrier casted by his uncle. Generators were heavily protected by golems and ekarissors. Varis slalomed with vivacity to dodge missiles thrown at him by numerous magitek predators. Once close enough he drew his flamethrower and trigger a raging inferno. The power of the Armatus was such that all the golems and ekarissors melted. The path to the first generator was clear, Varis destroyed it.
“Petra ! Your turn.”
“Got it !”
Lady Petra also geared with her Armatus armor set forth one of the airship. With her supersonic spear, she created a whirlwind blowing away several airship. They luckily crashed into the second generator. The magitek barrier was no more, Prince Varis’ army could go through.
“Now !”
All the army rushed straight forward against Titus’ army. Petra continued her way and smashed as many magitek armors as she could. With her Armatus, it was easy for her to fight them. She kept flying, confident about her armor. With her supersonic barrier no one could reach her. At her biggest surprise, a large ray of light brutally pierced one of her wig. She lost her balanced and witnessed herself rushing to the ground at an incredible speed. At that altitude, even with her Armatus, she would probably die.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH !
“Petra !”
Vairs followed her with his eyes to see where he could go to catch her. He couldn’t let Petra die, Zenos would never forgive him otherwise. He rushed to her to intercept her. When Petra eventually arrived at his height he carried her in his strong arms. Once landed safely, Prince Varis cautiously made her sit. She was in choc, struggling to catch her breath. Varis observed the battlefield. A large part of his airships was slaughtered.
“Such power, an Armatus !”
He activated the enhanced vision of his helmet. His uncle ? No it was his weapon. He caught sight of a woman silhouette more or less familiar to him.
“Junyé ?! He gave her an Armatus, to his whore ! Our new prototype ! The fool ! It was a work in progress we weren’t don’t yet !” She will kill everyone. Petra you must stop her. Petra ?”
The young general was still shivering and loudly suffocating. It was getting worse and it was contagious. Step by step, Varis started panicking as well. He let his helmet fall on the floor. His best element was in the middle of a panic attack. Not only he was losing but Junyé was a danger for all Sniflheim and his citizens with her Armatus.
“My sweet delicate little bird. I need you. You must overcome this. I know, the first fall is very impressive but you have to stand up right away and carry on. I need you to isolate Junyé from the battlefield and take her down. You can do it. You’re strong. The strong and outstanding young woman who won my son’s heart. You can do it Petra, I believe in you.”
He cradled her to comfort her the same way he used to do with his son when he was a child. It was working, Petra was a little bit calmer but still very fragilized. Varis took a deep breathe. He had no time to baby sit her, she had to recover. He hold a potion on his hand. It was intially potion meant to him in case he would lose his temper on the battlefield but Lady Sokovar needed it more than him. He pulled her hair back with his fingers, clearing a path to her neck and hammered a syringe.
Petra remained speechless, she intended to speak but no sound could go out of her mouth. Powerless she observed Varis’ expression transformed drastically. His face became intimidated and his eyes somber. He spoke to her with a particularly cold voice. “Isolate Junyé from the battlefield and kill that bitch. Be quick about it.”
Lady Petra was still shaken but calmer. She palpated her neck with her fingers and replied.
“I only have one wing. I can’t fly anymore.”
“Then pulverize hers. You have an armatized weapon, use it. I know this armor, the wings are not completely operational, you will easily take them down. Don’t forget about it, I want her dead.”
Prince Varis flee away without a look for her. Him and Zenos were more alike than she thought. He really sounded like her-fiancé, like father like son. It was a war, in a war we killed their enemies, yet Petra didn’t enjoy killing people. The truth many ignored, except Don Rosales, she never killed anybody. She severely injured her enemies but never finished them off. However, Prince Varis was right. An Armatus and an armatized weapon without control on it was very dangerous. Zenos’ father had to take care of his dual against his uncle. He couldn’t lose any energy on Junyé and take the risk to damage his Armatus. Petra was the only other person geared with an Armatus. Only her could defeat Junyé. She had to do it.
