As always when there was an important event in the Garlean court, Sniflheim, the imperial royal capital turned itself into a real fortress. Today was historical for Garleans. It was the coronation day of Prince Varis yae Galvus. The civil war tearing apart Sniflheim and the Triumph Plain finally came to an end in favor of Prince Varis. For many people, way too young to remember and have witnessed Solus zos Galvus’ coronation, it was the very first time they could see with their own eyes a member of the imperial royal family access to the throne of Garlemald. The city was seething with excitement. Everyone was outside, singing, shouting and dancing. I tried to find a way through home with my car but it was impossible to come closer to the castle. I was too late. Already so many guards around and magitek armors. I parked my car a little bit further away and continued my road on foot. I didn’t understand why they were all crowded here. They wouldn’t get inside the castle. Technically me neither but there are secret passages in the castle and I knew them well. Once arrived in the secret door leading to the royal floor, I went back to my chambers. I took a shower, paying attention to not ruin my waves freshly made. How could I dress? I bought no new clothes. I grabbed some underwear then I noticed a dashing red and black outfit, a golden chain and a red cape with the shoes matching with it. There was a little note inside one of the pocket.
“Just in case you change your mind for the coronation.”
Father. Sometimes we could almost believe he knew me better than myself. I honestly had no idea if I would attend his coronation before yesterday. A part of me wanted to stay in the Island of Gal and piss him off. Yet Father always kept faith in my arrival and already planned a whole handmade outfit. Hildegarde probably made this one. I look at myself in the mirror, all dressed up, while fixing my wavy hair. I liked how I looked. Also I rarely waved my hair, no one would recognize me and ruin my surprise. Perfect. I got out of my room, heading to the throne room.
It was probably the first time I saw so many soldiers in the throne room. They were meticulously placed according to their rank. Me, I was standing on the balcony, only accessible through the royal floor. The Commandante was next to the throne, holding the crown. The main door opened, Father arrived all dressed with our country colors. With determination he walked to the throne and everyone bowed. Face to face with the Commandante, the leader of the royal guard solemnly declared.
“I now proclaim, Varis zos Galvus, rightful heir to the Garlean throne, protector of the realm, Emperor of Garlemald and leader to us all. Long may he reign.”
Father took the crown from the hands of the Commandante and put it in his head. He vehemently agitated his cape and everyone bowed.
“Long may he reign !”
He sat on the throne and everyone knelt shouting “Long may he reign!” Father turned his head in my direction which astonished me. Did he see me? In any case, I started feeling uncomfortable then I ended up kneeling as well. Without removing my eyes of him I softly whispered “Long may he reign.”
