The Road to Farland

Supplies pt. 2

Supplies pt. 2

Mar 14, 2021

Ceria grinned, putting two of the flares in her back pocket and pulling the goggles up, pulling one flare and letting it light their way. She stopped and looked at Raven as he stopped, his hand on the small of her back making her shake her head. Pushing him away from her, Jet smirked slightly as she ducked behind a sandy hill. She knew she was overdramatizing the whole jump and land of her ducking behind a dune, but she didn’t care it was boring out in the desert without the Static coming after them. Ceria sighed, leaning back a little, looking up, seeing a few stars and glad she wasn’t pulling supplies with only Raven this time. After following her Raven grinned a little scooting toward her, frowning seeing Jet as he sat down on the other side of her reaching in his pocket for his pack of cigarettes. At first Raven frowned seeing Jet had tagged along but not worried one bit, he smirked looking toward me pulling out a cigarette lighting it and offering it to me trying to give me a cute look. Ceria watched Raven and frowned, shaking her head. She scooted away from Raven and glanced over seeing Jet holding one and turned looking toward him and took it from him again and lit. Jet smirked as she took her goggles down Jet chuckled pulling another cigarette out and lighting it .

Ceria took a drag as Raven handed over the duct tape binoculars to her and she looked through them, watching her father and the others. She swallowed as she tossed the lit flare a little way from them, letting it make enough light to see slightly. She Took in a breath as she leaned back on the dune flipping her ash and looked up at the sky again. Raven slid his hand over her stomach, moving to his side closer to her and grinned in the darkness whispering. “Ceria so about that thanking you for saving my life… I might have a few ideas”. Jet looked over at raven and shook his head leaning back a little himself looking toward the horizon hearing me grumbled. He looked over chuckling as she placed her hand on top of Raven and pushing it off her stomach finally sitting up dusting her back off. Jet watched her as she stood shaking her head and speaking as she pulled a flare from Raven who scoffed as she grinned, pulling her goggles down. “Look Raven, I am not into muscle heads sorry.”

She started off the flare in her left hand walking from the pair. Raven glared at Jet as Jet watched her leave, a small smile on his face. Jet stretched getting up to follow. Raven quickly stood up and reached out grabbing Jets shoulder stopping him. Jet smirked in the shadows, turning around, looking right at Raven. Raven stood there looking back at him sizing him up the best he could in the shadows the dying flair cast. Jet scoffed, turning from him following suite, Raven quickly following him. Ceria walked for a bit, the others now walking next to her. She stopped seeing a dark building grinning big, looking toward Raven handing him the flare. She pulled out a rope from the bag and tied it around the door frame, then looked at Jet pointing at him and pushing her goggles up and handing him the rope. “If you drop this, you will sleep on the roof of the camper and it is supposed to rain tonight.” Jet nodded as he helped tie the knot around her waist.

Jet looked at her as his hands still around her waist, and he nodded. “Don’t worry, I won’t drop you.” She nodded and smiled, trying to not be awkward thanking the heavens it was dark. Raven grumbled a little watching Jet touching Ceria but clammed up watching now let her turn and watched as she walked in, her gun in hand, the flare lighting up the areas of one of the old building used while the war raged on. The floor creaked under her as she stopped and held her breath, knowing the floors in most of the safe houses were rotted and there was a good 6 foot drop on to pipes and concrete if the floor crumbled from under her and another 20 foot or so if it had a basement. The acid in the rain they got every once in a while didn’t help either. She swallowed as she pointed the flare down to the ground, looking through a hole and seeing rats swallowing and closing her eyes realizing it was a building with a basement and looked like it would be a long way down if she fell and called to Jet.. “I mean it Jet hold on to me.” Jet smirked as he held on wrapping the rope once around the door frame calling back to her. “Don’t worry I have you Ceria it is ok.” Raven seethed watching Jet standing there at the ready holding to the rope knowing damn good and well he could have handled everything on his own if he had too and pressed the barrel of his gun in to Jets side getting closer to him and grimaced speaking low and trying to intimidate Jet. “Don’t drop her, I will kill you if you do.” Jet looked at him and scoffed. “How about not trying to be the tough guy and helping me? I mean, she is light, but I think she would feel more secure if you were holding on too.” Raven grimaced and put the gun back in his vest holster and grabbed the rope behind Jet and held on. Ceria looked around and grinned seeing a metal box and then opened it seeing two MREs.

Ceria nodded as she put her gun away and placed the flare in to an empty jar, lighting the place up a little better. Ceria looked around, seeing the grime and dust on the floor and walls. She swallowed taking a few more steps inside the building smiling seeing a crate on the ground walking slowly toward it. The floorboard creaked and groaned again, making her stop and look behind her, seeing Jets shadow and turned back again. Ceria quickly opened the crate and looked in, seeing four more MRES. She smiled and grabbed them, counting out how many she found quietly, placing them in her bag and stood to keep on looking for semi clean bottles for water, stopping short hearing the floor creak and snap. Jet heard the floor creak again as Raven looked at him with wide eyes, Jet grabbing tighter to the rope. The floor creaked louder as it fell in from under her; she grabbed the rope and screamed as Jet and raven slid slightly forward and stopped, holding her up above shards of wood and pipes. She swallowed hard, looking down and seeing it was a very far drop if they let go her, the jar with the flare falling to the concrete below her, glass shattering as she called up holding on for dear life. “Pull me up, Jet.” She gasped, feeling tears coming to her eyes, calling out again, terrified. “Please Jet!” She looked down seeing rats and shaking her head trying to calm down, her bag hanging down swinging from side to side. Raven gasped, hearing Ceria’s scream becoming scared himself. Raven looked at Jet in a panic letting go of the rope and shook his head. “Look man, hold her there, I will go get help.” Jet looked at him with wide eyes as Raven started off in the dark. He groaned lightly as he tied the rope around the holding door frame and took his coat off. “Ceria please I know that you just met me but trust me ok.” He took one of his flares and opened it tossing it down making the rats scatter and looked around the building and saw a sturdy looking floor boards and nodded as he walked across the boards toward where she fell, stopping for a berif moment hearing the floor-boards creak again.

He looked down at her and spoke “You ok ceria?” she nodded as she looked up at him, watching him lay down and reached for her hand. “Swing here and give me your hand please trust me you will not fall.” She looked at him as she took a breath moving back-and-forth reaching and grabbed his hand. Jet nodded, repositioning his body slowly and helped her to reach the board, then pull herself up to sit on the board next to him. Ceria sat there breathing hard but calming down since she was not hanging for her life. Jet took in a breath and pushed himself up sitting next to her taking a breath before speaking. “You ok?” She sat there in a daze for a moment and nodded, now looking toward him. Jet took in a breath wiping his face off with his shirt and spoke “Sorry it was just me Raven took off to get help.” She shook her head angrily and recomposing herself. “That is why his nickname is chicken boy, he is useless.” She said as he helped her to her feet, slowly taking the bag from her and placing it on his back. He held her close to him as she started across the board to the entrance. She wobbled a little as he placed his arm around her waist. She blushed brightly as she kept walking toward the entrance, him keeping her balanced on the board as she walked. Finally, at the door she stepped on the ground and grumbled taking the rope from her and then looking over at Jet who grinned looking back down at the rats, taking the bag off and placing it on the ground. She grinned as she spoke “What you got a bad case of rat fever?” Jet looked over at her and smirked. “No, I just don’t like rats.”

She knelt down wiping her cheeks off from crying and shrugged as she opened the bag putting on a stronger face, soon grinning as she counting out the few MREs she had found bitting her bottom lip. He walked toward her as she knelt there looking at her crossing his arms over his chest and speaking “Are you sure your ok Ceria? I mean, you just had a pretty bad scare there and you might have injures.” She stood and brushed herself off and smirked looking at him nodding. “Yeah, I’m ok, I promise… I’m kind of used to the whole risking my ass for another person to have a bit of comfort type thing.” She took in a breath and turned pulling the bag on hugging herself and starting down the road still the thoughts of her falling and dieing finally loomed in her head and then becoming angry because Raven ran like a scared bitch again. She took in a breath lighting a cigarette and taking a long drag trying to work the fear out of her, knowing that will not help in any situation. Ceria sighed, still thinking and frowned, knowing she owed a life debt now and hopefully he didn’t know that and wouldn’t want her to repay him.

Jet watched her walk down the road, knowing she was still shaken and not surprised she would go right back to being a hero. Jet untied the rope and put it in the bag he had and followed her. A few silent minutes later she turned and looked at him, the flair making her face glow bright. Jet stopped looking at her, stunned then looking down speaking. “How much more on the list.” He stood straighter, putting his hand together, glancing up, and looked her over in the dim red light. She pulled out the list and handed him the flare as she looked it over and grinned. “Don’t worry, we are about done and um, thanks.” Jet nodded handing the flare over as she took the flare back she slowly leaned in gently kissing his cheek pulling from him and looking down starting down the path again collecting some clear looking water bottles and stashing them in the bag. Jet grinned, watching her walk on, knowing she was a little different from most of the damsels in distress he was used to saving.

He shook his head catching up with her smiling over at her. Ceria grabbed a few metal parts and tossed them in his bag and slid under a car, unhooking some parts and pushing them out to him. He nodded looking them over as he reached down grabbing her by the boots and helped her slide back out and brushed her off a little before putting the parts in his bag. She tossed the used flare as he lit another up and they started back to the green camp fire. As they drew closer to the green and white glow of their camps fire anger begain growing in the pit of her stomach. She prayed her father took care of the little shit so she didn’t have to. Ceria gritted her teeth as they got closer Jet glanced over seeing she had tensed up.
