Nova woke with a start as she sat up. Nova rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and she remembered she was still on the roof. She sighed as she swung her legs off the ledge and back onto the roof, she was freezing from having fallen asleep outside. Nova climbed down the fire escape and back into her room. She walked to her bathroom and quickly started a hot shower. It was around six in the morning, nobody else would be up until seven except Alfred who would probably fight with Rigby about waking up and sleep in until eight. Nova quickly showered and got ready for the day, her head was still foggy with sleep. Nova put on her best clothes, well what she thought was her best clothes. She wore her form-fitting white t-shirt along with her black leggings. It was the best she had at the moment, and she wasn't going to wear a dress willingly. Nova quickly laced up her combat boots and walked into the kitchen, her head was still slightly cloudy. Usually, she was never tired, it must have been because she slept outside it probably drained her more than she realized. Nova took a quick look at the time and started to make coffee, everyone would be waking up soon and coming down to her apartment. 

“Just because you know I'm awake doesn't mean you can just walk in without knocking, what if I was naked?” Nova laughed as she turned around to face Egil. 

“if I walked in here and you were naked you would have a lot of explaining to do and the young man who would be hiding somewhere would be dead.” Egil chuckled as he sat at the kitchen table. 

“Ouch, way to portray me as some dirty slut.” Nova chuckled as Egil jokingly gave her a hurt look. 

“So you've been making coffee for everyone?” Egil asked as he looked over at the coffee pot on the counter. 

“Yeah it’s my week, anything Skett makes tastes like dusty, old gym socks.” Nova sighed, rolling her eyes.

 “Yeah, did Fletcher ever apologize for that?” Egil asked her. 

“I don’t think he even remembers that.” Nova laughed. 

“I mean it was his fault for starting it, but I guess it’s Leon’s fault you know what that tastes like.” Egil chuckled. 

“Ah yes thank you for reminding me about the one time he overpowered me,” Nova said as she shook her head. “

Hey, Nova! Oh hey, Egil I didn’t realize you were back, It’s nice to see you again.” Fletcher said as he walked into her apartment. 

“You can’t knock either? It must be a Valadez mafia thing.” Nova said as they laughed. 

“Sorry Nova, so I'm guessing you got back last night Egil? But what were you guys laughing about?” Fletcher asked as he sat at the table. 

“Tyrus’s dusty old gym socks.” Nova laughed as Fletcher just shook his head. 

“Tyrus was the one who tried to make me eat them! It’s not my fault that Leon took me up on my suggestion that why don’t they make you eat them!” Fletcher said, his voice full of laughter as he tried to defend himself. Fletcher and Egil started to catch up with each other as Nova gave them each a cup of coffee. 

“Hey everyone.” Chadwick groaned as he walked into the apartment obviously hungover. 

“Welp looks like not knocking is just a douchebag thing,” Nova grumbled as Chadwick glared at her. 

“Yeah come on Chadwick where are your manners?” Fletcher scolded him. 

“He’s right Chadwick, that's extremely rude. What would your father say?” Egil said, joining Fletcher. Nova tried to hide her smile as Egil and Fletcher kept berating Chadwick. Nova turned around as there was a knock on the door and Rigby walked into the room. 

“Good morning,” Rigby mumbled as he walked into the kitchen and Nova handed him a Chadwick cup of coffee. 

“See Chadwick! Rigby’s a decent person and knocked.” Fletcher said, scolding Chadwick again. 

“I'm not even going to ask.” Rigby muttered under his breath as he shook his head. 

“Alfred sleeping in again?” Egil laughed. 

“My husband is not a morning person, I didn’t feel like dealing with him this morning.” Rigby sighed as he leaned up against the counter. 

“He’ll eventually wake up.” Nova said as she shrugged. 

“Good Morning everyone!” Ruby chirped as she walked into the apartment with Malorie following behind her. 

“Hey! How indecent of you guys! You gotta knock.” Fletcher laughed as Ruby shrugged. 

“Were girls, it's part of the girl code we don’t have to knock,” Malorie said as Nova handed them cups of coffee. 

“Well shit,” Fletcher said, throwing his hands in the air defeated. 

“At this point, there's no need for anyone to knock any more, I left the door open,” Ruby said smugly. 

“Why do you think Alfred can’t open doors?” Malorie asked her. 

“It wouldn’t be the first time he ran into a door instead of opening it, especially in the morning.” Rigby sighed as he took a sip of his coffee. 

“Hey everyone, I see Alfred's not up yet.” Ed laughed as he walked into the kitchen.

 “Amy and Barnaby back at her apartment?” Rigby asked Ed as Nova handed him a cup of coffee. 

“Yeah, I asked them if they wanted to come up but they just told me they’d meet us in the lobby,” Ed explained. 

“Ladies and gentlemen the definition of a night owl.” Rigby chuckled as Alfred stumbled into the room. 

“Yeah, we get it.” Alfred yawned as he walked over and kissed Rigby. 

“Here you look like you need this.” Nova laughed as she went to hand him a cup of coffee. 

“Nah just throw it in my face, it’ll wake me up faster.” Alfred joked as Nova rolled her eyes and handed him the cup. 

“I’ll do it!” Chadwick shouted as he threw his coffee at Alfred’s face. Luckily Chadwick’s coffee wasn't that hot anymore. 

"Fuck!” Alfred shouted as he flinched a little and grabbed a towel and cleaned his face off. 

“The actual hell Chadwick?” Fletcher yelled at him. Alfred calmly walked over and dumped his cup of coffee into Chadwick's lap. Chadwick cried out and jumped off of his chair. 

“Welp, at least I'm awake now,” Alfred muttered under his breath as Chadwick whimpered in pain. 

“Come on, let's get you to your dad.” Ruby sighed as she helped Chadwick out of the apartment. 

“What!?” Alfred said as Rigby hit him on the shoulder. 

“He deserved it!” Alfred said, defending himself. 

“It’s almost 9 we should be heading down to the meeting area,” Nova said checking her watch.

 “Come on we don’t need to be taking up space in Nova’s apartment.” Egil said standing up from the table. Nova sighed she could tell today was going to be a long day.

“There you all are! The meeting’s about to start.” Amy said as they walked into the meeting hall. 

“Well, we're not late?” Malorie shrugged as a few last stragglers filed into the hall. 

“Oh yeah, I got your file turned in for you last night Nova,” Rigby said remembering. 

“Oh, thanks,” Nova mumbled she had totally forgotten about that yesterday. The crowd went quiet as Valentina walked onto the stage. Nova zoned out slightly, if she had completely forgotten about the files yesterday was there anything else she had forgotten? “

Nova!” Amy hissed snapping her back to reality, she had been so lost in thought she zoned out. What was wrong with her today? 

“Sorry, I’ll pay attention,” Nova mumbled as she looked up at the stage. Nova looked around confused, everyone was staring at her. 

“Ok, what did I do?” Nova mumbled trying to figure out what had happened. 

“Valentina just assigned second in command.” Alfred hissed at her. 

“Ok?” Nova whispered as she looked up at Valentina. Nova felt uneasy as they made eye contact, Nova quickly looked behind her trying to figure out who they were looking for. 

“Nova! Get up there!” Malorie cheered as she nudged her forward. 

“No uhh there must be a mistake,” Nova said as she looked around. 

“You are Nova...Nova Valadez, are you not?” Valentina asked. 

“I am,” Nova said standing her ground. 

“Then what are you still doing down there? I want my second in command next to me.” Valentina said. Nova hesitated for a moment, then joined Valentina on the stage. 

“I've gone over the files and all other positions will just remain the same,” Valentina explained. “If you want any changes to positions, I am free from eleven to two o'clock. If you have any questions and I’m not available please direct all questions and complaints too the second in command. You are all dismissed.” Valentina said as she walked off the stage. 

“Val!” Egil smiled as he walked over to them. 

“Egil? Egil Angevin? I never thought I’d be seeing your ugly face again so soon.” Valentina laughed. 

“Still keeping up with your kinky ways? The way Gino used to describe it you could never get enough.” Egil said as the entire room went quiet. Valentina just stared at him, Nova could feel everyone shifting uncomfortably around her. 

“He’s dead,” Alfred murmured under his breath. Suddenly Valentina broke the silence with her laughter. 

“Gino never could shut up, when it came to that stuff.” Valentina laughed. 

“How about Nova and I take you on a tour of the base? We can catch up with each other along the way.” Egil suggested. 

“Sounds like a plan,” Valentina said, her voice full of laughter. Nova followed behind them as they walked out of the hall. She was probably the worst person for this position, Valentina should have picked Egil they already knew each other. She was just going to have to get used to the position, there was a reason Valentina picked her and Nova was going to figure out why even if it killed her.
