I awoke under an unfamiliar ceiling, colored in green with some brown stains. I bolted up from the bed before realizing that I am in Elder Claire's clinic in the middle of the village. As I realized that I am still alive, I started to look for Aria and Daniel, before noticing all the bandages around my body. And my broken sword laying on the table next to my bed.
As I am stretching out towards my sword, the door is opened by a young girl. She must be an assistant to Elder Claire. Wearing a white robe with a green cross-pattern draped all over her robe, together with blue hair and yellow eyes. Holding a bowl of warm water together with a towel and bandages.
"Do not worry Mr. Adventurer. You are currently in a good state, you are lucky to survive all the electric shock which was passed through your body when being attacked by the Thunderlizards." the blue-haired girl stated. Putting down the bowl of water next to my sword on the small table.
"Alright, but how are Aria and Daniel?" I questioned her.
"Daniel will survive, he is not in a critical state, but as for Aria", she lowered her tone as she mentioned Aria.
"What? What's wrong with Aria?" I said surprisingly threateningly, causing the girl to tremble a bit.
"She is in a complicated state," the girl answered while looking down on the brown wooden floor. "She is in a vegetative state because of all the electricity running amok in her body. The paralyzing effect is forcing her nerve system to shut down her body."
"What?" I respond with a big hole in my heart, with my lungs being emptied.
"She is in a fatal situation, sir" the blue-haired girl continued.
"She needs immediate procedure, to redirect the lightning mana stored in her body without any mishaps. Otherwise, they would die," the girl announced, showing hollowed eyes.
"They?" I ask her.
"Yes, they. The child and the mother would die if we do not do the procedure," she responded with eyes still on the ground.
"What?" I say, starting to feel a lump in my throat, making it harder for me to breathe.
"To simplify it, she's pregnant." the girl clarified her words, sounding a tad bit irritated.
As I heard the words, "she's pregnant", the words began to chant in my head. She's pregnant, she's pregnant, she's pregnant. Wait, why did she didn't tell me? No, she just didn't know how to tell me. I know Aria too well, she didn't know how she would break the ice, so she kept it quiet. No, she wished to surprise me.
"How long has she been pregnant?" I ask after breaking the long silence, that feels like an eternity.
"She's been pregnant for some days, but after visiting Elder Claire yesterday. No sorry," the blue-haired girl said, correcting herself. "Two days ago, as you have been unconscious for 12 hours" she reported.
"I have been unconscious for 12 hours?" I say looking at my body, wrapped in bandages.
"It's actually a miracle, you should have been unconscious for at least one day" the girl responded.
"What time is it?" I ask, still studying my run-down body.
"It's 4'clock, it's pretty close to 5'clock." the girl replied, having her body towards the table. Drenching the towel in the warm water.
I turn myself to the woman beside the table, "How should I address you with, miss?" I ask.
"You may address me as Miss Emily," Emily responded and turned towards me. "I am going to change your bandages and wash your body now" she announced with a stern voice.
"Alright, do what you must do" I respond while waving my hand.
"Right." I hear from her, she must be new.
I sat upon the patient’s bed, only a blanket covering my body. Only when I sat up I could fully feel the full extent of my injuries. It hurts.
"Please show me your back," Emily requested with the towel in her hands.
As I am twisting my body it begins to hurt, a small move and it feels like my skin is being ripped apart, I accidentally let out a small grunt. I was able to twist my body enough for Emily to start cleaning my back, only to clean new sweat after my movements.
"Gosh, you're sweaty," she exclaimed.
"Sorry," I respond in an irritated mocking tone.
Emily starts to lighten the bandages around the neck, making her able to cut through the bandages with a pair of scissors. She starts to cut through the bandages, from my neck to the beginning of my butt crack. I feel violated.
As she's removing the carcass of the bandages, a disgusting smell leaps out, a combination of flesh and trapped air surrounds the whole room. Emily couldn't help but gag out of reflex.
"That's disgusting!" Emily couldn't help but comment.
"You tell me," I return.
As Emily began to wipe my back, it began to hurt in a burning sensation, causing me to sweat even more. As my body turned into a catalyst for fire I tried to relieve the pain by moving my body, only to cause Emily to rip open 7 bitemarks.
"Stay still or I will accidentally rip open all your wounds!" Emily roared back in an irritated voice.
"Yes ma'am!"
As Emily is finishing cleaning me up without any further mishaps, I ask her "Can I see Aria?" looking down at my newly changed bandages on my arms and body.
"Yes, you can, but I wouldn't recommend it, she's still unconscious" Emily responded with a low tone.
"How bad is it?" I ask, praying inside for not the worst.
"It's quite bad. The lightning mana is currently surrounding her mana core and within the womb, around the child. If we do not remove the rampant mana inside, they could both die," Emily responded with an insensitive voice.
"But, can I still see her, see them," I ask, trying to find any glint of hope, to see them.
"Yes, you may see them, but... I do not recommend it" Emily responds, trying to change my mind, but, I am determined to see her at least before she undergoes the procedure.
"Please" I plead with determined eyes.
"Fine" she complies.
We're heading down the hallway, some blood starts to leak through the bandages, but I try to hide it. The hallway is made out of wooden-floor alongside white-painted wooden walls, door frames popping out of the place where other patients lie in rest.
After walking through the hallway for one minute more blood starts to leak, causing me to slow down even more. After turning right after the 3rd corner, I see a sign saying "Critical", for critical patients. We walk through the brown-painted door and see that of a battlefield.
Two people, adventurers with severed legs and arms after taking on a quest. One old man with a ripped off lower-half clinging to life with two Emitters standing by the lower end, trying to seal off the blood and heal the flesh.
Emitters' magic is an amalgam of all of the elements with no stronger affinity towards one element. The Emitters' power is purposely only to heal any ailments or injuries. It's not really effective to use it in a battle since they would only be able to heal the people around them. Emitters' unique abilities are categorized into the unique section of magic affinities, divinities, godsends, or sometimes even called apostles.
One woman covered with burns must be Alicia from the smith. They had a fire accident two days ago, but she still looks like it was just yesterday, and the smell of burnt flesh doesn't make it any easier for her. With burnt skin along her body, her charcoal body would make her pain immeasurable whenever someone touches her, even sunlight. A face without a face is the most describable word for her situation.
"It must be tiring to see people die every day," I say out loud, causing Emily to look back at me, a limping man holding his rib, trying to hide the blood which is dripping down.
"It is."
