We walk down the hallway of critically injured people, with only a few Emitters standing by, as Emitters are not a common sight. They have the divinity element of light, to heal any ailments or injuries. People rarely see any emitters during the day as they are working in the medical field, trying to help people. Such kind people.
We head towards the right corner of this dark hallway, only to see a lying woman with sweat dripping from her forehead. "Aria!" I burst out while starting to run, limping towards my love.
"Don't run you, idiot!" I hear from behind with an angry voice.
"Sorry Elder Claire," I say while looking down on the wooden floor.
"You're hurt too, you shouldn't even be up!" the old hag nags at me.
"And you, how could you let a patient walk?" Elder Claire questions Emily.
"Sorry Granny, he just wished to see Aria'' Emily responds, trying to hide her face.
"It's fine" Elder Claire responds while waving her hand in the air. "It's his stubborn ass' fault'' Elder Claire continues, causing her to chuckle. "But, it doesn't look good for her, for Aria nor the child'' Elder Claire includes after her chuckling.
"Why aren't you doing anything yet?" I growled back at her.
"How dare yo-" Emily manages to growl back but is stopped mid-sentence with Elder Claire gestures her to stop.
"Oh, I am already on it. I am working quite hard this time as this includes a child's life, the future's life." Elder Claire responds sternly.
"Sorry, I didn't mean that '' I responded and started to look at the floor with my fist clenched, making my palm almost bleed.
"There is no need for excuses when you see someone hurting. You wish for the best of the person and try to get it as fast possible for them to stop suffering." Elder Claire responds with her palm open, gesturing me to stop being apologetic.
"I have already contacted another godsend, a powerful godsend from the town over," she continues while pointing with her thumb backward.
"The person who's coming over from the other town is a master of the lightning attribute, who can control the lighting inside. The person is also able to absorb the mana storing up in her body," she continues.
"Who is this person you are speaking of?" I ask her.
"You would not believe me if I say her name," she responds with a shaking head.
"At least tell me the name who will save her," I say, showing a plead-full face.
"Fine, her name is Phaedra" Elder Claire responds, revealing the name of the benefactor.
"Phaedra, the Wandering Thunder? That Phaedra?" I ask for confirmation.
"Yes, the wandering thunder" Elder Claire responds with a low tone.
Phaedra, the Wandering Thunder, titled after her magic, lightning. Among the things I've heard, she's an S-ranked adventurer, cultivating one of the hardest divine elements, yet she's S-ranked.
Phaedra has long white hair, with brown skin. She's human, at least what everyone claims her to be. Some people think she's a dark-elf. With lightning purple eyes, she's able to have lightning-fast reactions and thinking process, making her able to cast many spells each second, something unheard of until she came to be.
"Is Phaedra able to save Aria?" I question Elder Claire's decision.
"Yes, I am certain she's able to discharge all the lightning mana inside her. There's a reason for her to be S-ranked," Elder Claire retorted.
"How could you contact her?" I ask with a bewildered face.
"I have my ways" she responds, putting her index finger towards her mouth.
Two days have passed, and Aira's condition has only worsened, she managed to wake up for 2 hours before passing out from electric shock.
"If the situation worsens, she might die at this rate" I hear from behind while I sit on a brown worn-down stool, as Emily enters the room. Aria has been transported to another room after the first day.
"I know Emily," I say with a low but threatening voice, almost growling. We can't do anything in this situation except watch over her while she's unconscious.
"When is Phaedra coming to this village?" I ask Emily while holding Aria's warm hand.
"I don't know, she had to finish her work in the other town," Emily responds with a low tone.
"It has been two days, but no words from her, she might die if she doesn't come by the time of after tomorrow" I repeat the words Elder Claire said to me some hours ago.
"I know," I hear from behind me as Emily shuts the door behind her.
As I put my lips to Aria's warm hand, I whisper, "Please, be strong" as I feel it deep down in my mind, I know I am trying to encourage her, but I am doing it for my sake as well.
I don't know what to do without you. As if a demon watches the moment, Aria's body begins to shake.
Causing me to step back and put up my guard, against Aria. As Aria's body shook, all the equipment began to shake too. As each second causes another burst of trembling, I begin to feel a tingling sensation around my waist, where my metal belt lays.
"Lightning magic" I whisper to myself as scissors start to fly towards Aria.
I catch the scissors as they are flying towards the shaking Aria, only to manage to catch the scissors by putting my palm in front of her body. The scissors pierced through my hand and almost reached Aria's skin, blood starts dripping down my fingers as my hand starts to be affected by the electric pulses.
"I need someone here! SOMEONE!" I yell out while I grip my hand, causing more blood to drip on Aria. "QUICKLY!"
"What happened?" I hear from behind me.
"Her body began to shake and create some magnetic pulses, causing every metal equipment to try to fly towards her," I say, pointing my thumb backward on the two nurses holding down the equipment with a towel. In the meantime, I am holding a wet white towel, pressed against my hand.
"Her mana core is unstable and might cause even more disturbances, we need to get rid of the influence of lightning mana," she says while putting a finger to her chin.
"I know, that's why we need Phaedra quickly!" I shout at her, wishing for something to happen.
"I know, but she's coming. Slowly or quickly, I do not know. I lost contact with her when she left the town over," Elder Claire reports with her voice low and head down.
"I know, it's just that. I wish for all of this to be over" I respond with sorrowful eyes.
"She will come soon, but for now. We need to secure her body alongside stabilize a little bit of her mana, but it might hurt her and the child," she remarks while holding her hand on my shoulder, to comfort me.
"So, let's refrain from doing that then, I wish for her and the child to survive, even if it sadly tortures Aria," I say with a hollow voice.
I walk out of the room and stops after I see an Emitter, coming towards my way, looking at the small blood drops on the floor. The man has dressed in a white robe with patterns of green stripes, with brown short hair and blue sparkling eyes.
"Sir, your hand," he remarks and puts up his hands, ready to heal my wound.
"Yes, in a second," I respond as I pull out the scissors, wrapping it with the blood-stained towel.
"Done," I announce and look towards the man, holding the wrapped-in scissors with my left hand.
"Please show me your hand," he says, looking worryingly at my hand.
"It's almost nothing, I have been through worse, but if you may," I say, showing him the hand.
"Right," I hear him mutter.
"Thank you for your concern and the treatment, how should I address you, mister?" I ask the man, staring intently at my hand, breaking the trance.
"You may address me as Vidal," Vidal responded.
"Okay, thank you, Vidal," I correct myself.
"You're welcome," he mutters as he stares intently at my hand and starts to imbue healing mana. His eyes turning in a green tint, and only a discolored skin on my hand. It never ceases to amaze me, the miracles created by magic.
One day has passed since the magnetic disturbance, yet no words Phaedra. Her condition has only worsened as the magnetic pulses progressively become stronger and stronger. Patients next door started to have trouble holding a fork as the movements are restricted by the magnetic pull.
Only yesterday after the first magnetic pulse, Lydia and the other kids from the orphanage came over. To thank her for the efforts, of finding Daniel and took care of the children. She said she wished to give more money for us as some of my equipment broke after being attacked in the nightmare forest.
"How can we cover up the expenses?" she asks with a worryingly look. "We don't have that much money, but please take this," she continues and shoves a small leather pouch of silver inside. "That's all we have, please take it," Lydia says with a shaky voice.
"There is no need to pay us back, just give us the original price for the quest we took," I respond, declining the small pouch of silver.
"No please," she says more sternly, causing me to become a bit irritated.
"I said, there is no need to pay us back, you guys nee it more than us," I respond with a stern voice.
"Alright," she responds, holding the small pouch against her stomach, with shaky hands.
"Just pay us the normal amount, on the quest," I reaffirmed and looked into her sorrowful eyes.
"Fine," she answers with a low tone. "Alright everyone, we have come here as we intended," she announced, looking at the children in Aria's room. "Say, thank you, towards these kind adventurers," she tells all the children.
"Thank you, mister," I hear from the children who positioned themself in a row, and bowed with sincerity.
"Please, come on, when will she get here?" I ask myself, trying to seek the answer. As someone barges into Aria's room, I put on my guard as I was unprepared.
"She's here!" I hear from the panting Emily, "Phaedra is finally here," she repeats while still holding the doorknob. As the words sank in, I began to feel something in my heart, hope.
As the door is still open, I hear the footsteps with a weird feeling towards it. As a silhouette of a conjurer’s staff enters the room, held with brown tanned skin, I see a big purple conjurer hat a little bit dipped down to hide her face, to hide Phaedra's face. She walks towards Aria with elegant silent footsteps, as I stand there still on guard because of Emily.
"Greetings, Phaedra," I say while bowing down to her, draped in a black-purple baggy robe with a golden rune pattern. She doesn't respond to my words, as I am just insignificant before her eyes, as the gap between S and B-ranked is too deep, I can't even dare to be in front of her.
After B, comes A, and after A comes AA, and AAA before S rank. Only 40 people are in the S-ranked level, only 40 people are confirmed to have the strength to defeat a Titanbear. And only 1 person has reached the SS rank, confirmed to kill a group of Titanbears. If they were to create a coup d'etat, the kingdoms would only have to bow down towards them if they do not wish for blood baths to be spilled.
She walks up to Aria, laying there unconscious with a painful drained face. Phaedra starts to proceed to help Aria from the rampant mana. She puts her hand towards her stomach, I could feel that she’s gathering all the mana inside Aria to a single point. Avoiding all the vital places and the dormant child.
"Amazing" is the only word I could describe her.
Things around us started to shake when the mana was being ripped out of her, a lightning cloud darkened the sky outside, only to see darkness all around the village, no light could pierce through the cloud. Creating a man-made night.
When the yellow lightning starts to form outside Aria's stomach Phaedra puts her hand up towards the window and lets the lightning be redirected towards the dark sky. Shaping a form that of a snake, her mana spirit. The snake slithers alongside her arm from her shoulder to her finger and shoots a huge blast of lightning.
"She's strong," Phaedra said surprisingly seriously, "And the child would be even stronger" Phaedra added before disappearing in a flash into the darkness outside.
"Amazing," I say out loud with my mouth agape.
As the night dissipates as if it never was there. Aria woke up to see me, tearfully holding her hand with a happy face as everything was over, the nightmare of losing everything was gone.
