Welcome to SkyRoot High, where your typical high school isn't just about fun and games! It's about murdering and slaughter and- Okay, we get it! SkyRoot High is where all the non-normal people go. Oh, yeah hi! My name is Iris and this is my story.
As I get ready for school, I get a call from my best friend. I quickly answer the phone while I button up my shirt. "Hello,". "Hey! Are you ready for school? Liam and I are waiting for you outside," she says excitedly. "Alright, I'm on my way out now" I reply hanging up the phone. Liam, Skylar, and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. Somehow we always end up in the same school and neighborhood. During our graduation party from middle school, we decided to stay close and stick to our small circle. It's not like we originally planned to be together growing up since we were always mixed into situations where we had to protect one another. I grab my bag and a cookie before heading outside. My friends greet me with a smile and we start walking to school. "Man I swear being a fairy is tough," Liam complains as he took a bite of his crispy bites. "What's wrong with being a fairy? You guys have more freedom than the rest of us," I question as I finished eating my cookie. "I get picked on a lot. It honestly sucks. I would rather be a land animal," he says sighing. "Eh, a land animal still has its own set of problems," Skylar says.
Walking through the neighborhood, it wasn't a pretty sight. Nothing but homeless people, fearless people, and people like us. Those who try to ignore their surroundings to carry on with life. We all understood how bad things are. It's not like we're snobby children and feels the need to flaunt our lifestyle. We all had things going on in our personal lives. The town near the school looked the exact opposite. A thriving town, business people, busy roads, and places. For a town mixed with humans and creatures, it surely surprises people to know how low the crime rate is. Even if you hear about a police report, most of the time it's the humans causing the issues. Not everyone can accept a society living with creatures who can wake up and go berserk at any point. I don't blame them at all. We finally arrive at school only to be greeted by some rowdy predators.
"Look at the little fresh meat," says one of the boys chuckling. "Should we show them who's boss or eat them?" another guy asks. The group of predators laughed. "This isn't good Iris. They are stepping onto prey territory," Skylar says, whispering to me with concern in her eyes. This type of stuff happens almost every day. Some predators just love to be brave and cross their boundaries. Of course, we could fight back but that would be asking for a death wish and the whole school would be in chaos. Oh yeah, this school is divided into predators and prey. Predators are determined by characteristics such as size, behavior, and status. Prey creatures are also determined by these characteristics too. There's a lot of schools across the country that are mainly creatures only, however, this one is special. There are also humans around too. Such an interesting characteristic of the chairman to allow humans in. The prey side of the school fears the chairman is gathering as many preys as he can to one day have a ceremonial feast. We would be on the table as we watch our predators stuff their bellies. Sounds grueling but that's the reality of how things are supposed to work. Even so, this school's council, though consists of predators, remains neutral and makes sure the predators don't cross boundaries if someone doesn't step in to divide us once more.
"Wait a minute," says one of the guys interrupting the laughter, "aren't you the famous descendant of the Nine-tailed fox," he asks getting closer as he stared at me. Everyone stops laughing and looks at me with a stone-cold serious face. Yes the secret, well not so secret, is out. I am a descendant of the Nine-tails. My story is long so I will get to it later. Though I was supposed to be with the predators because of my title, I was somehow spared by the chairman. Even though my status and size were of a predator, my behavior was of prey so I had a choice and I didn't want to even bother being with predators. This is what I mean by this school is special. "So what if I am? Do you really wanna test me" I asked as I bravely stood up towards the guy.
"Who the hell do you think you're talking to?!" asks one of the guys angrily. Right before he punched me, a bystander to this whole situation stopped him. "A-alpha!" yells the guy surprised.
The group of the once rowdy predators quietly bowed before the new guy. "Who's he," I ask. Liam looks at me shocked as if I couldn't be serious and says "That's Micah! He's the alpha of over 300 hellhounds! His strength and leadership skills are top-notch! How could you not know him?!" Micah smiles looking over towards Liam and says "I see I have a fan." Liam blushes clearly flustered by his own words. "I just really admire how cool you are." "Wow a whole prey admiring such a strong predator is beyond me," says Skylar shaking her head. I shake my head at Liam and say "He doesn't pique my interest. He's just another fellow dog." With all due respect, Liam is right about Micah but everyone knows how "dogs" are. Stepping onto claimed territory can get you into fights. The only difference between him and me is that I can't be bothered to deal with him and his loyal marching army of pets.
Liam just stood there in shock as Micah laughed, holding his stomach and gasping for air. His underlings looked at him confused. "My, you're one interesting tailed beast. How may me and my underlings apologize to such a high-level predator" he asks while bowing his head. Everyone just looks at him in utter shock including Liam and Skylar. I just wanted a peaceful day at school. "How about you all stay off our territory and leave me and my friends the hell alone," I say agitated as I casually walk past them trying to get to my class. "As you wish nine-tails. Let's go" he says ordering his men to leave to the predator side. "Also, miss killing rabbit. I look forward to making you my servant" Micah says before finally leaving. I stopped before looking back at the feral dogs leaving then turning to Skylar who looked just as pissed about the situation. "Who does he think he is trying to make me his servant?! That guy needs a real reality check or I'm going to beat his-". Liam interrupts."Alright! Let's just get to class before anything else happens!" Liam carefully patted Skylar's back. Her eyes were glowing. She was definitely upset at Micah's comment. Finally, we can get to class but I wonder what was that all about.
