Aria's POV:
We headed down towards the retirement home by the river flowing through the village, as we crossed the wooden bridge to reach the homes of the elderly, I saw Ethan spacing out as we passed the burndown smith.
"What are you thinking about?" I ask.
"It's nothing."
"Come on," I nudged my elbow into his arm. "Since you are spacing out, it must be something," I say trying to burrow further into his mind.
"It's just that, you are so beautiful," Ethan said with a bright smile, turning my face bright red.
"Come on, no flirting when doing quests," I say while clearing my throat.
"Come on honey, it's only us on this quest, not any other members, and besides we are not there yet," Ethan responded with a smirk.
"Indeed, but let's flirt later, we have to get to the retirement home already," I announced, making Ethan look hollow inside. As I noticed the shell walking behind me, I turned my body towards him and kissed him on the cheek.
"I said later, not never," I say my face was covered with flustered pink skin.
"Alright" I hear Ethan giving up with a mumble under his breath.
"Come on you all brawn and no brain," I said jokingly.
"Hey at least I am smarter than Andrew" he retorted jokingly sternly.
"Doubt it," I said nonchalantly and started to chuckle.
As we are getting closer to land after the bridge, we start to see the retirement home behind the corner on the last house at the end of the street. The retirement home is covered in brick walls with logs to support some places and to look more appealing to others.
"Alright, we are here!" I announced turning my body towards Ethan.
"Let's head inside and start working," I say, being excited as I never have done this.
"Right" Ethan answered. As we walked on the gravel track before the door, I noticed one of the elderly sitting out in the garden, enjoying the silence and the people walking past the home. It must be lonely to be here.
As we opened the door, we were greeted by a girl with big round glasses, with brown hair covered with a small white triangle hat on her head. Eyes shining like the ocean, dressed in a white robe covered in green stripes.
"Hello and welcome, you must be the adventurers that we requested for!" the girl said while clapping her hands.
"Yes, indeed we are the adventurers who took the quest on the quest board, we are currently suffering from some aches and we decided to take an easy quest," I said putting up a professional smile.
"So tell us what we need to do... Eva." I said while squinting my eyes to see her nameplate on her right side.
"Right, the job description didn't say what you needed to do, let's see. You guys would have to care for the elderly, make them feel comfortable and make them feel alive, treat them with care as they are quite frail," Eva included with a worrying gaze over the elderly couple sitting by the couch 5 meters from us, holding hand in hand.
"Well, all you need to treat them with care and make them feel alive by telling stories of your life, of your adventurous life," Eva said, stopping gazing at the elderly couple and looking at us.
"That's it?" I heard from Ethan.
"Indeed, that's all you have to do, thus why it is classified between F-D rank," Eva said, sounding a bit annoyed.
"That's reasonable, let's go, Ethan. Let's start with people, who feel the loneliest here." I said with a sorrowful tone, as this could be someone like us, an adventurer who loses everything in the future.
"Alright, I can start with the elderly men while you can take care of the ladies," Ethan said without being affected by my sentence.
"Right," I respond, walking down the hallway of windows, looking for a sign saying anything, like "isolated", "alone".
As I look for any sign of directions in the blue and white hallway I notice a door standing ajar. As I look into the room, I see an old lady, around the age of 90, sitting on a chair, looking out through the big window, showing the garden and a tree that reaches the sun. Her silver hair glistened because of the sun which shines on her
"Come in," the elder said.
"How did you notice me?" I asked, feeling a bit suspicious.
"There is no desideratum to be suspicious of me, I am just a mundane elderly," she said with a frail but strong voice.
"Come here child," she continued and waved for me to join her.
"I have spent, many days, many years in this home, I know everyone and anyone entering." she continued to answer my question. "I felt your presence young child, it's a strong presence little one," she said with her other-worldly eyes open, looking out on the garden, piercing everything and anything.
"You, my child, have a long and interesting future ahead of you, yes, indeed." as she answered her sentence.
"Excuse me, who are you talking to? I am not a child, I am 25 years old actually." I pondered as to who she was talking to.
"Well, to answer this adolescent lady, I am verbalizing with the vigorous child, the one who resides in you," she answered, it was quite a big shock for her to know that I am pregnant.
"Wait, how did you know I am pregnant?" I said while my jaw reached the floor.
"I know many things, yet not everything. With the eyes of old, I have experienced, I've seen many things yet not everything." the old lady said with a shaky voice.
"Storms are coming in the near decenniums. Red ebony-filled storms, red rain pouring down around him, lost numerous precious things as if God has forsaken him. His father, his treasure, his everything, being disoriented within the gales. When God endeavors to descend to take away the child within the asperitas, is the first denouement of the era, coming to a terminus." the old lady said, giving me a piercing pain in my stomach for a momentarily second.
"The child's destiny is yet to unfold, I know nothing yet I know everything. I see him but not him. Born within a storm, his life is a peculiar wonder." the elder added.
"What does that mean?" I asked the elder as she turned around and showed her other-worldly gaze to study me.
"That is not for you to ruminate about, but it's up to him," she answered with a calm voice while pointing towards my stomach.
"Excuse me, but who are you?" I questioned the bogus old lady.
"I'm just an old relic from old times, no one in this day, just an elder who knows nothing yet everything." the elder answered with shut eyes.
"Alright, let me repeat it, who are you," I requested to know, sounding quite suspiciously.
"I'm no one, I am just an elder, if I were to say my name, you would not know it. No, you would not understand it." the elder added with a shaking head.
"I insist, please tell me your name," I said more sternly.
One second passed but it felt like a whole minute before she answered, "My name is ¿!??;! %#¤I” she said with acceptance, as I didn't understand it, "Please, come again? Can you repeat it?" I questioned the elder who had already acknowledged that I didn't understand.
"I knew, that it would lead to this, I said my name is ¿!??;! %!¤I" with an irritated tone.
“Can you tell me what that means?” I ask her.
“Unfortunately not, it’s my name in my language. Which is not able to be heard by the common tongue.” the Elder responded.
"Alright, thank you, for those wise words of the future," Now if this is even about the future. "Now if you excuse me, I have to leave," I say with a hasty tone,
"It is understandable, I knew that you wouldn't understand, besides the words are meant for the child," she said with a defeated tone.
"Right, right. I have to go now." I say as I point towards the worn-down white brown door.
As I got out of the room where the weird elder was, it felt like I had been inside the room for hours, for an eternity. It has been an eternity since I felt the sun on my skin, how warm this feeling is. Wait, why am I here? Oh right, it's a quest. I started to look for any signs of words, leading towards the frail people. I saw Ethan down the white and blue hallway, so I started to make my way to him.
"Hey, Ethan!" I yell down the hallway.
"Hey, I was about to go and look for you?" he said with a calm smile.
"What why?" I respond.
"Because we are done with this quest, to take care of elderly for 5 hours," Ethan said like I was a baby.
"It has already been 5 hours?!" I almost yelled.
"Yes, it's already been 5 hours already, are you alright honey?" Ethan answered with a worrying look.
"No, it's nothing. It's just that I have only been with one elder, for this whole time," I said with a confused look.
"What? Only one elder? Man, that elder must have loved the time with you!" Ethan replied with a grin.
"Let me show you the elder," I announced the request while pointing down the hallway towards the door which is a bit ajar.
"Alright, let's meet this elder, this elder must be thankful for the time you gave her," Ethan said as we were walking down to the door.
But when we arrive at the door and look in the room for the silver-haired elder sitting on a chair, she's gone. Was it just my imagination or my low sanity?
"There is, no one here," Ethan stated blatantly, yeah thanks for pointing out the obvious.
"She was just here about a moment ago. She sat there and talked about the future and, and, and-"
"Calm down, calm down Aria. Are you feeling alright?" Ethan questioned me as I was questioning my sight.
"Yeah, I am fine. Why?" I answered, giving time to my fiance to think about my words made him mortified.
"Haha don't overthink my words, sweetie," I said breaking his trance of mortification.
"Alright, let's go to the orphanage and help the kids so that they can at least be a bit happy once." I remarked about what we are about to do, "Sounds good to me!" Ethan acknowledged my remark, to make kids happy.
