Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Mar 18, 2021

Acily cursed herself.
She had heard stories about how you should "be careful what you wish for", yet she never took them to heart. You can want anything you wish; those stories were just about some poor fool who had some bad luck.
In other words, not entirely realistic since bad things can happen to good people, and bad people can get away with things.
Yes, she had wanted Tamryn to stay so she could show her her world, give her the things that she couldn't have.
No, she did not want her to be a sad mess, worrying about her mom and home, viewing this place as a prison cell.
She didn't know how to comfort her.
In all her years at the teashop, she had learned how to make friends with customers, and get them to trust her enough for a story or two. That way, she wouldn't get bored and she got to know people and their lives.
But she wasn't good at cheering people up.
There were to many things to try, most usually failing and making them sadder or madder or whatever the case.
And she wanted to make Tamryn smile.
Acily went over Tamryn's traits to see what would work best. She was a bit shy, amazed at the Mindful. She was upset she couldn't go home. She loved her mom.
So, trying to distract her wouldn't work, it would seem to forced. Neither would asking about home and the things she missed or asking what she liked about this world.
Talking didn't seem to be an option.
She decided to go the comfort route. Make her as comfortable as possible, let her know that people were there to watch over her.
Yes, that seemed like a safe path.
Acily went over to where the girl was sitting on the wall.
With out a word, she helped her to her feet, whiped her eyes (a waste of tears honestly, it took all her willpower not to bottle them up for late uses), and led her inside the building.
Tamryn looked sad and defeated.
Acily took her through the bustleing crowd of customers and to the soft armchair next to the counter. She went and fetched a blanket for her, taking a few of Tamryn's tears with her to make some tea.
Because she didn't want to take too long and needed something warm and yummy, she quickly brewed a batch of Honey Ginger, before walking back to Tamryn.
She gave her a reasuring smile, and hoped she didn't look to much like a house wife.
"Thank you," Tamryn said softly, and took a small sip.
She hadn't smiled, but she stopped crying and relaxed a bit, which was all Acily could ask of her.
She had to get ready anyhow; it was a Tuesday which meant the frogs were coming.
They weren' actual frogs; they were tall and mostly human shaped, plus they could talk. A bunch of bounty hunters they were, great company and good customers.
Right on cue, the door jingled and in came the frogs.
They brought thick conversation into the shop, loud and big, disrupting other tables and getting annoyed look from some they bumped into, but really who could blame them?
At the front of the group was a frog named Jeremy.
He strode over to Acily while the others found their usual table; the biggest in the resturaunt.
"Fallen madly in love with me yet?" he asked, he was kidding but there was a bit of hope in his eyes.
He had been in love with her since they first met, or so he claimed, and he was a sweet frog, handsome and admirable, but Acily had never said yes.
Never said she loved him back, simply because she wasn't sure if she did.
So they were in an odd relationship, friends yes, and surprisingly, there was no awkwardness.
Acily found comfort that he would always be there if....well.
He brushed past her, not waiting for a response an went over to Tamryn. Acily protested, but it was too late. He leaned over and whispered something in her ear.
She looked surprised. He took her hand and led her over to their table and sat her in his lap.
The frogs bombraded her with questions, asking why she was in Aciliy's chair, who she was, why they hadn't met her and other things.
She was overwhelmed at first, and then she grew more relaxed with them, it wasn't hard. She looked to Acily for comformation. Acily nodded.
And then, hiding behind her hair, Tamryn gave a small grin.
