Delilah and Tom - Present
- YOU answer him. – With a mischievous smile, Joseph hands his ringing mobile phone to Delilah. She swipes the finger on the screen and holds it to her ear.
- Is everything according to the plan? – Thomas whispers on the other side.
- What plan? - Delilah stands up and raises her eyebrow trying to understand the situation.
- Huh? – Surprised, Thomas screams. – Joe handed you the phone? You’re such a prick… I know you can hear me… - With a smirk, Joseph puts his hands on the knees and slowly gets to his feet; while listening to threats not meant to her, Delilah follows him through the corridor until they reach outside the museum. – Give him his phone back, Delilah. I want to pierce his eardrum NOW! – Delilah pulls the phone away from her head with her eyes closed.
- He isn’t taking it, Tom… I’m trying but his hands are in his pockets… What? - she listens and rolls her eyes - How can I force him? He’s taller and stronger than I am. – Joseph stops and reaches out his hand with wiggling fingers asking for his device back.
- You should know that I hate tricking people… Come and see me tonight. – Before giving Thomas the opportunity to reply, Joseph hangs up with a quick movement of his thumb.
- I seriously advise you to write a suicide note… - she says, at the same time her bag buzzes with an incoming call – I don’t need to look to know who it is… if it’s him, should I pick it up?
- It depends on how bad you want to see us together…
- Damn, did you set this up? – Delilah checks her phone and shows it to Joseph: already 2 unanswered calls from Thomas.
- Not until I saw you sitting in there alone and helpless. I shouldn’t have accepted his dumb plan to test you. But it seemed so logical last night: help Delilah practice her new power.
- At least that means that you talked to each other…
Embarrassed, Joseph scratches the back of his head. – Actually, he just texted me. Don’t look at me like that, Delilah.
- Like what? – She checks her insistent phone again. - I am just trying to figure out whom I should pinch: Thomas or you…
- None… We just want to help you and he got what he wanted: you sensed me…
- Yeah, pity he doesn’t know that yet…
- He can wait a bit more… until tonight… - Joseph looks at his watch. – How about we walk to the city centre and have lunch there… My treat. - He sees her bite the lip and hesitate. – Don’t worry. Slowly you’ll adjust yourself to the energy with the increase of people along the way.
Delilah nods in agreement and silences her phone by switching it off.
- Sorry, Thomas. – She grabs Joseph by his arm and they start their stroll. – I accept the challenge and the free lunch. How long did you take to get used to this?
- I don’t remember… - He shrugs. – Maybe I have with the ability from the beginning or a child learns quicker. Don’t know…
- Well, anyway, thank you for being here, Mr Born Immortal . – She jokes.
- My pleasure, Ma’am…
