I hate being right about bad things. For five days, I keep fighting against either skeletons or wolves.
And skeletons started to get stronger. At least their equipment is better now. I changed my fur coat with a better one and found a helmet that fits my head.
Still, that weird voice keeps saying, "Enemy defeated, no rewards given."
One of them was even carrying a pot, which I use to boil water, but the best gift was a skeleton equipped with a bow and arrows.
Also, this bow and arrows are why I am inside the forest searching for something to hunt. I know how to use a bow. My grandpa taught me how to hunt with different weapons.
Still, it's a little hard to find something to hunt inside a forest. My sight started to glitch again " Tracking mode activating." the voice said. That could be useful "Error tracking mode deactivated."
"Fuck you, strange voice!" I showed up my middle finger to the air.
"You are only making my head hurt." I need to shut my mouth before all potential prey escapes.
I am looking for tracks everywhere, looking at the ground, looking at the trees. There is no sign of anything for now.
Another thirty minutes of walk, and I feel like I am spending my time for nothing. I can't even find birds.
Another fifteen minutes. I found a broken branch on the ground. Maybe something heavy passed from here. I will look around now.
Yes, a footprint. Specifically a hoofprint. From the radius, I say an adult deer. I started to track it, but there's a risk I also lost way back to the cave.
Marking trees with my army knife is a risky move. It may blunt the blade, and I don't know when I need something sharp.
Still, it's a risk worth taking because a shelter is more important than a knife.
"May I offer tracking mode?" the strange voice talked again.
"No, and could you shut up for five minutes?" I don't know what annoys me more. Trying to survive inside a forest in winter or an annoying voice keeps talking.
"Starting tracking mode."
My sight started to glitch and my headaches. "You asshole. Why do you keep doing that? Does your mind couldn't even understand the word 'no' ?"
"Operation failed." the voice stopped for a time. "Do you want me to try again?"
I don't even bother with answering this one. Even if I say no, it will still try.
I am getting closer to my prey. I found a bush with some of its leaves half-eaten.
I can hear the sound of a flowing stream. My prey is probably drinking water there.
I slowly pushed a branch of a tree. Now I can see the flowing stream. Just a little away from me, a deer is drinking water.
It has a different shape. It has a small body but strong-looking legs. It also has antlers that look more like a spear.
I heard a voice coming from the bushes at the other part of the stream.
A wolf is trying his chance to hunt this deer. Slowly it approaches my prey. I may wait for a little and steal his food.
Deers ears started to wiggle. It heard the upcoming threat, but it didn't run away.
It turned around and looked at the predator that was trying to sneak him.
Now, that's interesting. It looks like it is trying to challenge the wolf.
Wolf was barking and turning around the deer. Surprisingly deer make the first move. It charged towards the wolf, using his antlers as a spear.
Wolf jumped right to escape from it, but the deer kicked him with his front legs this time. I don't know who's the predator now. Wolf is just barking and trying to escape from the deer's attack while the deer keeps attacking him non-stop.
Wolf decided to retreat in the end and escaped through the forest.
I have an advantage right now. Animals with furs need to stop and pant to get their energy back. In that case, I can kill the deer without seeing much resistance from it.
I draw my bow, put out an arrow from my quiver, and put it on the bowstring. Now I need to pull it until it gains enough potential energy.
It is now or never. I aimed my bow and released it.
Arrow split air into two and created a whistling sound while going at high speed.
Deer cried after the tip of the arrow penetrated his fur. It's not dead, damn it, but I don't it will run too far with a wound.
Deer slowly turned his head towards me. I made him angry, aren't I?
Deer cried once again, but this time he sounds like little angry. It hit his front to the ground and started to charge towards me.
I managed to dodge it by jumping to the side of the deer. I should keep the deer from kicking me, or I lost my chance to kill it.
Deer lost his balance which I used this opportunity to grab his antlers.
Now we are wrestling, but I have more body mass, but the deer keep tries to jump around or shake his head to get himself free from my hands.
I managed to stop him for a moment and hit his head to a tree, but it just made him angrier.
It tries to do anything it can do to escape from me. From biting my hands to try kicking my legs, anything it can do in that situation.
Still, it already fought against another animal, and he's exhausted from that fight.
Deer managed to escape from my hands by biting my hand and started to run towards the forest but fell to the ground after running for five seconds.
It is panting on the ground, couldn't even move its legs. Law of nature one survives while another one dies.
I shoot one last arrow to his head and ended the life of the deer. Now it's time to carry this thing to my cave and butcher it.
"Hunt is successful, no rewards given." it's the voice again.
"Thank you, dear, you don't need to say that every time I kill something."
"Activating track mode." I don't know what is wrong with this, but I am pretty sure it hates me.
It's lighter than I thought. I can probably carry it to the cave without resting.
I still need to be careful about wolves possibly wandering around and looking for food.
Some time passed after I started to carry the deer.
Another mark after another mark, how far am I from the cave?
Lucky me, not a single wolf shoved up on the way.
Thirty minutes passed, now I am in the cave.
I picked up a cleaver from the ground (I found it from one of the skeletons I killed.) and threw it into the campfire. Then pick it up from the campfire and cleaned it with purified water I have.
I hope it will be enough to clean you. The last thing I want is to die because of a disease.
Skin the deer and cut the meat. Simple process, but I need some way to store it.
