It has been two weeks, and I think I finally finished my preparations.
I found skeleton archers and restocked my arrows, killed Draugrs for their armor, and collected steroid berries for the fight.
I also learned how to use my gloves efficiently in combat. Advanced grip and pull strength allow me to steal weapons from enemies.
As my strength increased after I completed the skeletal dungeon, this move becomes even deadlier as I can not only grab their weapon but dislocate their limbs too. I managed to dislocate a goblin's arm with one pull.
But my plans shouldn't be just against goblins, as I know there are rare and elite variants of monsters too.
A giant goblin or a flying goblin won't surprise me if I see one in goblin town.
Voice located it, but I don't know how it looks. Possible traps, walls to keep intruders outside, or an army vaster than I can kill.
I try to prepare myself for anything that goblins could have, but I am still going there blind without knowing what is waiting for me there.
I can only hope their population is low because of wolves and Draugrs. Goblins also patrol in small groups, aren't they?
What should I expect twenty, maybe thirty? Who knows how many of them will be there.
But I need to fight against them one day anyway, and I prefer a goblin over that giant wolf.
Time for the last check before I go. My hammer, on my back. Dagger and mace, hanging on my sides. Food, berries, and other supplies I might need on my backpack. Everything seems okay.
"Voice, open tracking mod. Destination goblin town."
My view blurred for a second, and markings appeared on the ground. That's probably my path.
"Tracking mod activated, following the markings will lead you to the desired location. Expected travel time two days."
...
Other than a small goblin patrol, not even a single enemy showed up. That could be because this place is goblins ground, but I doubt it since both Wolves and Draugrs are way stronger than them.
But, the last time I saw a Draugr or a Wolf, they were fighting with each other. Probably there are reasons I don't know too.
I don't care about this monster's little fight over some territory. I need to kill four bosses and get out of here.
...
"Five hundred meters away from the destined location." I almost reached it, but I need to scout the area first.
I looked at a big tree right next to me.
"I should climb on it." I grabbed the trunk of the tree with my fingers.
With increased strength coming from the gloves, my fingers started to sink inside the tree. I am climbing the smooth tree trunk like climbing a stair.
Not a long time after I started to climb, I reached the top. Now, I have a better view.
After around two hundred meters, trees getting sparse, and after another hundred meters or a small area without trees seen.
Inside that small area, huts made out of brushwood and clay appear.
Now, I have a clear sight of enemy territory. Buildings are too small for a human to live but suitable for goblin standards. There is also a big one in the center, probably where the shaman lives.
Wooden walls surround the town. It shouldn't be a big problem for me to climb these walls, but I need to be careful. I doubt if their only protection is this wall. These creatures may be stupid, but they are the most intelligent monsters in here. Patrol groups probably watch for possible intruders.
Looking at the number of buildings, reaching shaman will be a problem. I need to create chaos to distract them, and I might kill the shaman with an element of surprise.
But, everything needs to go according to the plan, or I will lose my life. It almost feels like a suicide mission preparation.
***
As night came, I sneaked towards one of the walls. There are guards on the towards, but they can't see much because of the dark, but making a fire spreads around fast is impossible with only some twigs and wood.
That's why I will be using these. I pulled out some plants from my backpack.
Voice said these plants are insanely flammable and shouldn't be put near any fire if you don't want to start a forest fire.
I dropped the plants on the ground started to roll a stick for creating a small fire because using flint will make too much noise.
As fire touched the plants, a fire rose to the sky and started to spread around the wooden walls at high speed. I run away from the place where the fire started.
Only minutes after the fire started to spread, goblins started to scream and run around. So, they don't have a system to extinguish the fire. That is a good coincidence considering they leave their shaman alone in the meanwhile.
I started climbing the wall after the last guard tower emptied. I looked around a bit. Goblins are screaming and trying to carry water with wooden buckets to extinguish the fire, but the water they are bringing is not enough.
I almost forget one thing. I opened my bag and grabbed some berries, and threw them into my mouth. I feel refreshed.
I jumped inside and started to walk towards the big hut in the middle, because of the panic they don't even see me, except one, which I killed before it reacted to me.
Fire is spreading more than I think, I need to do my job fast, or I might even die too.
I opened the door and got inside. Goblins decorated inside pretty well, rugs on the floor, a small throne, some shiny dinner set, and jewelry, goblin shaman has something for expensive things.
Talking about the goblin shaman, a creature wearing a mask is sitting middle of the room. It didn't even react when I got inside.
Carvings and paintings are on the mask. Shaman also holds a long staff with a skull at the top of it. There are two crystals placed at the skull's eye sockets.
I pulled my dagger and touched its tip with my finger, sharp enough to kill it.
"I will kill you and get out of here," I whispered these words into the air and started to walk towards the shaman.
It will be easier than I expected if nothing unfortunate happens, I wonder what will happen if I just dived into town to kill the shaman. Could I pull it out?
That's no time for stupid thoughts. I will finish my job and escape from here.
As I almost reached the shaman, I heard a giggle, a giggle I know from the past. Crystals at the skull's eye sockets started to shine, and a projectile burst from the mouth.
I jumped to the ground as a magical projectile missed my head with millimeters.
I looked at the place where projectile landed, a hole big as grapefruit opened in the wall. I am glad I managed to dodge it.
But the shaman doesn't seem to share the same feelings as me. It grumbles and hits the ground with his staff.
The shaman started to swing his staff in the air. There is a possibility he prepares another attack.
I charged towards him and made a small cut on his arm with my dagger, which caused him to miss his attack.
The shaman started to scream, goblins around the town stopped their job to extinguish the fire and run towards the hut to help their shaman.
I rushed to the gate and escaped the outside, but goblins already surrounded me.
Goblin shaman got outside and made a gesture with his hands. Goblins (And hobgoblins) turned back to their job.
Shaman hit his wand to the ground, and a goblin long goblin (I say around two meters and fifty centimeters) appeared. It looks thin, but if a hobgoblin could become powerful as a human, I wonder what this beast could do.
I used my appraisal on it to learn what it is.
"Goblin champion is a giant goblin known for his strength matching his orc cousins. The main weakness is it needs to feed with mana or a large amount of food to act. Also, rumors say their stupidity is almost big as the universe itself."
Well, I was expecting this kind of scenario any way. I might need more berries thou.
