It was a dark night and it was snowing when I was driving home from work. The stretch of road seemed to go on and on. Passing by houses and businesses, with the only light coming from the street lights lining the sides of the road and the white from the fallen snow. After some time, the signs of civilization began to disappear behind me leaving nothing but acres of empty snow covered land and the lone road. God, I just want to get home already. Exhausted and feeling tired I turned on the radio to help keep me awake. Some music played but was interrupted by a disturbing broadcast. Three people were found dead on the street near the corner of Clarke and Moore. They were found frozen with fear etched upon their faces and their eyes bloodshot and deep scratches on their hands and faces. Police do not know who or what did this, but it is advised to get home and stay inside..
I turned off the radio thinking about those poor people. They are the eighth case where this happened within the last few days..
I continued down the road, still going on and on. My eyes began to grow heavy, drifting slowly together with each moment. That was until I began to feel the car slowing down on its own to a complete stop. Out of the slight fear I had, awoke me completely from my succumbing slumber. A blessing of safety, but this is not good. I can't be out here. I tried to start the car but nothing happened. Completely dead silent as though this car was nothing but a corpse. The night became darker and the snow seemed to darken with it. The single street light barely lit the road in front of me. I gotta... before I could finish my thought, out within the shadows came a young woman ragged as though she was held somewhere against her will. She only wore a white dirt stained gown. Her long black hair covered her face. Her hands and legs were covered with bloodied scratches. She slowly shambled across the stretch of road toward the single light.
I got out of the car and yelled if she was ok, but before I made any step forward, the radio on its own turned on and all that was heard were whispers. They became louder and louder until I looked back at the woman and she turned her head to me. No eyes, but only a faint glow within the sockets. Her face horrific from a death like state. The voices over the radio ceased at the same time her gaze locked upon mine. I stumbled quickly back into the car shutting the door praying that the car would start. Each turn of the key she came closer and closer until at last the car roared, cutting through the horrific silence. Without hesitation, I hit the gas quickly driving past the woman. She never turned back but the image, the memory remains clear even till this day that I got away from the horror that dwells in the night.
