NOLLA was empty. No birds. No little ants, Testra bees or killer moths. It was as quiet as a mouse. The only thing you could see or hear were little shrieks here and there and many, many bloody heads. I couldn't believe it. Xion was holding tightly onto my hand and so was I to his. A tear rolled silently down my cheek as I looked back at the bodies behind me.
We were almost going past town and I was starting to get worried. Never in my life had I gone past town. Mother would probably scream at me or beat me. Maybe even both. I looked at my brother, he looked stern and annoyed. Maybe it was the sun beating his face.
"Xion? Do you think this is a good idea? Where are we even going” I said looking at the scorching sun, I was hungry and hot. It wasn't very fun.
"Trust me Kei, where we are going will be much better than staying in that awful house." He gave me a reassuring smile and I smiled back. Although, I wasn't sure if I should especially since he didn't answer my question fully. We got on a small truck that took us further away from town. It was probably 9pm in the night. My eyes grew heavy and I felt exhausted.
"You can rest your eyes if you want, we have a long journey ahead of us.” Xion said, patting my head. I didn't want to rest or go to sleep. I knew that if I woke up it would be just another bad day.
I think I really did sleep until the next day because I could see that the sky was light red, rather than the dark bloody red it was before and the… CITY?! THE CITY?! Mother had always warned me about the city. “Grease is covered all over the city, hobos and beggars are scattered like little mices. Even going to your local grocery store is like fighting a war.” she says with her eyes wide and her mouth twisted. I always thought about how there would be grease everywhere in the walls and floor, little mice scrawling at your feet and how there were people with guns and blasters inside the store fighting over the last pack of cereal. But the city was nothing like this. It was obvious that it would be empty, there were probably only a few beggars scattered around. Not more than ten. Oh how marvelous the city looked though. As soon as you entered you could see huge statues of what I think were all the former presidents excluding the one now he had a big one in the center. There were a lot of shops, I could see from the windows that they had marble floors and walls. Never in my life had I seen a building with marble floors and walls. We had gone further into the city… and then further. I had no idea the city was this large.
Xion smiled and leaned into me. "Come on, this is our stop.”
"We are here?”I got up and looked around us. The truck was still moving and we were on a long highway. Wait a minute. We are jumping off?!
"Come on, quick!" said Xion, holding my hand. We jumped off as we rolled on the side of the road into the bushes. That was insane. Mother would have chopped my head off.
