For a second, it’s like his soul stormed out, trying to get between them. He even already took two-three steps forward. But his body held back, as if it was controlled by his brain. If he interfered, he and Raoul would end up in the dean of student affairs' office. Ariane would also be upset if he tried to defend her. She's a werewolf, not a damsel in distress. She didn't need any help, especially if the help would only make the situation worse.
From that distance, he shouted, "Ariane! Let's go."
They both turned to him. Ariane was just going to leave when the vampire’s claws snatched her arm.
"What's the hurry?" asked Raoul.
Luka's heart raced. The veins on his forehead were slowly
bulging. He didn't think he could stand by any longer. If Raoul moved one
more muscle, he would charge and smash him to the wall. Fuck the dean of student affairs.
"The full moon, you idiot," replied Ariane. The tension on Raoul's face faded. "You wanna hold us here? It's up to you. If this place is destroyed, daddy's probably just gonna spank your butt."
A universal gasp came from their surroundings. In that moment, Ariane yanked her arm out of his grip, then casually walked toward Luka. "Come on."
The cousins trotted the Main Lane to Maeda Hall. As soon as they got far enough from Raoul, Ariane held her heart and spoke gibberish in Norwegian. Her tense shoulders relaxed and she breathed normally.
"What happened back there?" asked Luka.
"I was just handing out flyers and he recognized me," answered Ariane. "He was kind of... what's the word? Paternaling?"
"Patronizing."
"Yes, patronizing, but... that's it? I mean, you know French people can be so rude sometimes. I was telling him not to say all that, then you came."
"No, what did he say exactly?" Luka stopped once they arrived in Maeda Hall. "Why did you tell him all that?"
"Oh, that's just shock therapy so he let me go."
That's when Luka looked down and saw the claw mark on her arm. It's like a cat had just scratched her. Ever since they became werewolves, almost nothing could pierce their skin. And now Ariane was bleeding just by the graze of his nails?
Luka's eyes went dark. "I'm gonna kill him."
"No, you're not. Come on. Let's see how this Vaults actually look."
Ariane held his arm and took him into the crowd. Yes, there was already a crowd of first year werewolves. They were waiting by the special elevator that would take them underground, where The Vaults were located.
Not long after, three staffs came. One of them started talking to the kids while the others opened the metal doors. They all went down using the elevator. Once they reached the basement, he boys and girls were shown their way to their separate area, Hall A for girls and Hall B for boys. The minute they’re inside, they were blown away.
It was like a mash between insane asylum and prison. Everything was white, white walls, white floors, white ceilings. And there were nothing but cells. The cells were in a shape of a cube. Each cell was separated by white stone wall. Not metal, not glass, but stone. They’re possibly Odevlarite or whatever the material of Planet Odevlar was called. Yet the cells had no door. A kid just tried to touch the surface, preparing himself for a zap, but nothing happened. There really was no door.
The staff ordered them to get into their vaults. Luka paced into his cell, cell number 9. There was literally nothing in the cell. Not even a single grain of dust. He clenched his fist and hit the white stone wall, just to test it out. His hit made a crack. He panicked. Then there was a blue light glowing behind the crack. It spread all over the crack and all of a sudden, the crack tightened up again. Now the wall looked as if it was untouched. Neat.
Some of them put their new set of clothes in front of their vaults. After that, the staff announced that they would close the vaults now. Luka stepped backward when blue lasers shot up from the floor to the ceiling, creating bars to perfect the cell.
“Please tell me this is not some kind of lightsaber,” somebody yakked.
“As a matter of fact,” the staff answered, “it’s not.”
Those kids sighed.
“We don’t want you to lose a limb, we just want you and the rest of the campus to be safe,” the staff chuckled. “The moon will rise any moment now. Please, excuse us.”
The staffs waded the corridor, leaving them locked inside their cells. A few more jokes and their bodies began to react. The moon had risen, and it would only take a few seconds for them to shift completely into a wolf.
Although he was heavily shaking, Luka took off his clothes. He didn’t wanna rip his clothes to shreds. His supply of clothes had already been thinning since he got too lazy to wash them.
He just pulled his underwear down when that pain pierced his back. He fell to the floor, trying to catch his breath. It was like millions of needles piercing through his flesh, from the inside to the outside. His feet became cold and heavy. His heart sucked in all his blood, as if it's rapidly shrinking into the abyss. His body enlarged, but it felt like it’s been crushed and crammed into a tiny shape like a paper toss. He went higher and higher, bigger and bigger. Slowly but surely, thick white fur grew all over his back. The structure of his face changed its shape. His scream turned into a howl. And there it was, the horrendous white furred werewolf that he genetically inherited.
The Vaults was filled with growls and howls. The nice and funny Erebus students were no longer there. There were just mindless beasts who scratched and smashed the cells.
For the first hour, Luka just randomly hit, knocked and blew either side of his wall. Then this time he swung his paw to the blue lasers in front of him. The blue lasers threw his paw back. There wasn't heat or electricity. There was just this massive negation power, as if the laser and his paw were both the North Pole of the magnet. He tried it with his left paw. And it was thrown back again. He charged forward and he was thrown to the back of his cell, in such a way that the lasers were some kind of balloon that bounced back everything that hit it.
An hour later, a staff came in with a droning camera by his side. He paused at every cell, letting the camera recorded the werewolf. He examined the tablet that he brought while making a few taps here and there. He didn't forget to take a record of Luka. After he finished his job with everyone, he exited Hall A.
The rampage in The Vaults was on the contrary of the extravaganza that happened outside. Lake Pavlopetri had turned into a carnival for the merfolks. As moon’s phase affect the tide, it’s a tradition that the merfolks celebrated full moon. On the surface, there's a dancing fountain in the middle of the lake, complete with colorful lights. Someone opened up a bar on the corner, where pretty merfolks sat, had a drink and engaged in jolly conversations. There were floats in different shapes of ocean animals such as seahorse, sea star, shells, dolphins and the like where mermaids and mermen could sit and enjoy the full moon. A group of singing mermaids were having a little show. Their enchanting voices and awe-inspiring good looks attracted the passerby and easily distracted people from doing what they're supposed to do.
Underwater, there was this crazy dance scene where all the merfolks moved their bodies to the beat of their traditional underwater instruments. Some of them even teleported themselves to the sea where they could celebrate the tide and possibly raid an unfortunate ship. They reveled under the magical power of the full moon.
Meanwhile, in the sky, vampires who didn't have class were having their own celebration. Yes, vampires could float during full moon. Some vampires made mischief from the heights, some others simply made love among the stars. They also had some fun, annoying the upper class werewolves who were released in the forest. They made those werewolves chase them fruitlessly.
Time passed by. The werewolves in The Vaults were beginning to feel exhausted. They're stuck in the cell and there's nothing they could do about it. While still fighting to break the vaults, they howled and cried, much to their useless struggle.
But not Luka. His stamina was still prime, especially after the first food was delivered by magic right into their cells. No matter how much he got thrown back to the wall, he kept slamming his body to the laser bar. Again, again and again.
Crack.
One of the laser bars sparked. He traced the laser that was as blue as his eyes up to the ceiling. The color slightly faded at the upper end of the bar. He reached to the laser and got a grip. He gripped the laser!
Channeling his power to his hand, he pulled the laser, trying to bend it like iron. The negation power was still strong, so he ended up holding on to the laser. That's when his feet kicked the bottom of the other bar. Another spark appeared. He kicked it again. Because he's holding on to the laser bar, he didn't get thrown back. So he kicked it again, again, again.
The lasers shook like a weak TV reception. He let go of his hold. He lunged to the other side of the cell. With all his might, he pounded his body to the laser bar once more. He got thrown back again, but this time, the color of the laser faded. He pushed himself closer to the bars, realizing the difference and where it actually came from. Then he raised his fists up in the air. He swung his arms to the floor and squashed the floor. The floor splintered. The lasers disappeared.
The metal doors opened. The staff came back to examine their conditions. He paused, watching the werewolves raging in their cells. That's not right. They're supposed to be tired after trying for hours to escape.
He checked on each and every cell, still confused with their unending madness. Then the corner of his eyes caught one cell that did not emit blue light. He rushed to get to that cell. It’s like lightning struck him on the head, finding the cell opened and empty. The sound of the dropped tablet echoed in Hall A.
"Impossible," his body was shaking as he took his phone out of his pocket. "Riley, we have a situation..."
Then he realized something.
He's not the only one walking free in the room.
A shadow fell on him. Hot breath blew the top of his head. He quickly turned around. Too slow. He was smashed into the wall on his right and landed with a broken shoulder.
His vision was shaking. Cold sweat as big as corn formed on his forehead. The large feet of the werewolf stepped closer to him. He was lifted. Their eyes met. His face was inches away from the werewolf's wide open snout. The steaming, stinking breath that came from his mouth woke him up.
The fairy staff whisked his hand. Yellow powder hit the werewolf's face. The werewolf shook his head, losing his grip, making him drop the staff. He flew right past him. But the werewolf grabbed his feet, clawing deep, long cut on his leg. He screamed.
Again, he flicked his hand. A small cyclone materialized, trapping the werewolf inside it. He flew as fast as an arrow, but the werewolf pushed through the cyclone and ran on all fours, chasing him to the metal doors while the other werewolves howling, cheering for him.
Passing the metal doors, the staff used his magic to push the button to lock them. The werewolf jumped and slid right between the doors before he crashed into a cart, dropping everything it held. The noise shocked the guards that they came rushing to the hallway. The staff flew toward them with blood dripping from his leg. He screamed, "Werewolf on the loose! Werewolf on the loose!"
Both guards stood the ground as the white werewolf came in like a hurricane. One of them blew a strong wind that it slowed him down. But the werewolf didn't just strike forward. He jumped high, punched a hole on the ceiling and held on to it. He swung right into the guards, then the other guard created a magnetic wall. He hit the magnetic wall and fell to the floor.
The werewolf clashed into the magnetic wall. It stayed strong. He clashed again. Nothing happened. He took a few steps behind and started running toward the guards.
"Oh, fuck," they wailed as the beast sprinted right into them. He jumped, breaking the magnetic field and fell into the guards.
The next thing that happened was nothing but hell. He bit one of the guard's arm, scratched the other's face. Blood splattered on the floor. One of them got squished to the wall, the others had his leg broken. They were lifted and smacked into each other. This heartless monstrosity played them like they're some kind of ragdolls. Weightless, worthless, just a toy he could easily break.
Only when he heard noises from upstairs, he let go of the guards and headed to the emergency stairs. A siren was blaring all over the building.
"Attention everybody," a man spoke through the speaker. The festivity in Lake Pavlopetri stopped. "A werewolf just escaped from The Vaults. I repeat, a werewolf just escaped from The Vaults. To those who are still in Maeda Hall, please leave the building immediately. The rest of you, keep yourself safe."
The fountain died out. The merfolks frantically dove right into the water, abandoning the bar, the floats, the stage and everything above them. The other buildings went on a lockdown. Nobody got in, nobody got out.
In Maeda Hall, another guard found the werewolf at the stairs. He shot green laser beams from his eyes and pointed them to the ceiling. The ceiling was cut and fell right above the werewolf. But he caught it on time and threw it to the guard. The guard cut them into two with his laser eyes. The dust hadn't even gone yet when the werewolf's paw grabbed his head and flung him downstairs.
The werewolf kept climbing the stairs and found another guard coming forward. He was just taking a gun out of his pocket when the werewolf clawed his face, then his chest, then his arm. His gun fell out. He reached for it. Got it. He pointed it at the werewolf. The werewolf opened his long snout and put the gun in his mouth. Feared of losing his fingers, he pulled his hand instead of pulling the trigger. The werewolf chewed the gun and spat it to his face. The moment he lied flat on the floor, the werewolf continued his terror.
He arrived at the ground floor where the students were running for their lives. Incubi and succubi helped to teleport them to a safer place. Like a bull seeing a red flag, the werewolf came chasing those poor kids, destroying everything in his path. Then somebody whistled behind him.
His eyes peeked behind his shoulders and found a woman in all black pointing a white gun at him. Before he made another move, she pulled the trigger and shot him right on the head.
Everything went black.
