This may be the end for our intrepid hero. The "law" procedures on Akkadi were biased, to say the least. They had sorcerors who cast truth-tellers, spells that compelled the target to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. If the target failed to do so, they would feel increasing pain, which made most tell no lies. However, if the King heard any words against him or those in his employ, he would sentence the speaker to death. This created a vicious cycle, usually ending in the death of those on trial. And now, she would be the one before the merciless, tyrannical, King. She was escorted into the courtroom by a mountain lion-like Akkadian who wasn't exactly gentle about it. When she sat, she realized she was lucky, in that her lawyer was a Kharti! They were one of the smartest species in the Empire. Maybe we should have some hope after all! Unfortunately, the first witness was the captain of the ship A.S.S. Destroyer, and they provided some very solid evidence toward her endangerment of their crew. Equis, her lawyer, rebutted with the usage of Edict Beta Four, Enforcers on duty will not be taken from their service unless necessary, including serving in courts of law, and if unlawfully removed from duty, all evidence and jury opinions are void. This visibly angered the king, sadly, and Destra wondered how much more it would take to push him to the brink. The prosectuting lawyer used Edict Alpha Six, In court proceedings overseen by the King, anything can be contested, and the King's authority is the law. They contested the use of the captain as evidence, and somehow, the contestment lost! The captain was an illegally gotten witness, and his testimony was void. Alas, this luck lasted only moments, as she had been easily seen by many attempting to visit a designated Mystical Hot Spot, which counted as consorting with magic-users. Her lawyer had no real Edicts on his side, but he tried with Edict Zeta Two, Evidence used in court can be revoked under these circumstances: It is too vague or unclear, the source is untrustworthy, or the King forbids it. They ruled that it wasn't vague enough to be affected. Here comes the Final Judgement. The decision made was that Destra was guilty of consorting with magic users, and would be sentenced to a jail period of 8 pymnos.
I will be having more free time than usual this week, and I will try to update as much as I can. Also, just so you know, the Edicts follow a hierarchy, which is as follows, from least to most important: Omega, Zeta, Delta, Beta, Alpha. Feel free to post any feedback or criticism!
