"The way I was reincarnated is essentially the same as in all those isekai light novels I have read in my spare time, so maybe there is some interface to access with a code word?"
"Status!"
I waited a moment, but nothing happened.
"Well, maybe I used the wrong trigger word."
"Menu!"
Immediately afterwards, a half-translucent screen appeared with three options to choose from.
Inventory
Stats
Skills
"I knew it! Let's start with taking a look at my stats."
I tapped on 'Stats' with my right claw and the screen changed to show some basic information about myself.
Name: ?
Race: Baby Dragon
Level: 1
Exp: 0/100
HP: 40/40
MP: 30/30
Strength: 20
Intelligence: 15
Vitality: 20
Agility: 25
Defense: 20
Luck: 5
Condition: none
"These stats don't look remarkable, but as I don't have anything to compare them to, I should be careful when meeting others. I don't know yet if I am strong or weak. But why is my name just a question mark?"
I tried to tap on the question mark, in hope of getting more info, and in the next moment the screen changed to read "What is your name?" and a big keyboard appeared beneath the text.
"Oh, so this allows me to pick my own name. How unusual. Hmm....well...what would be a good name for a dragon? It should be definitely something that sounds epic. I wouldn't want to be remembered with an embarrassing name."
Having spent some time deciding on a name, I finally entered the name 'Baalzarog' into the screen. Immediately afterwards, the screen changed back to show my stats with my new name.
Then I decided to check out what skills I currently possess. To do this, I tapped on the back button in the top left corner of the screen and selected the 'skills' button. The skills screen was divided in 'active skills' and 'passive skills'.
Active skills:
Small fireball Lv. 1/5
Earth manipulation Lv. 1/5
Dash Lv. 1/20
Passive skills:
Lesser mana blessing Lv. 1/3
Lesser melee attack resistance Lv. 1/3
Draconian language comprehension Lv.1/1
To find out what these skills do, I had to tap on each of them separately.
Small fireball:
Description: Allows the user to gather fire and shoot it in the form of a small ball.
Effect: Shoot one small fireball.
Mana Consumption: 10
Cooldown: 30s
Earth Manipulation:
Description: The user can manipulate the surrounding earth according to his will.
Effect: Manipulate earth up to 1 meter from user
Mana Consumption: 2 per second
Cooldown: 5 min
Dash:
Description: The user's agility stat will be raised momentarily, allowing the user to traverse a long distance in a short time.
Effect: Agility * 1,5 for 5s
Mana Consumption: 15
Cooldown: 30 min
Lesser Mana Blessing:
Description: The mana of the user is permanently raised by a small amount
Effect: Mana +10
Lesser melee attack resistance:
Description: The user gains a small extra resistance against melee attacks
Effect: Melee attacks deal 95% damage
Draconian language comprehension:
Description: Allows the user to understand the language of dragons.
Effect: Written text or speech in draconian will be automatically translated into a language you can comprehend.
"Ok, these skills look pretty useful. Now I just have to find out how to use them. Considering that my guess about opening the interface with a code word was correct, maybe I just have to shout the skill name as an activation trigger."
"Fireball!"
A ball of fire the size of a soccer ball appeared before me. I aimed it towards a rock nearby and it completely annihilated the rock along with the grass in the vicinity.
"Wow, if a small fireball on Lv. 1 already has this much power, I wonder how much destructive force a higher level or the normal fireball has. Let's test the capabilities of earth manipulation next."
"Earth manipulation!"
[1 hour later]
After much experimenting, I found out how to use skills which require continued mana supply. To stop such a skill, I have to clearly state the name of the skill with the word 'stop' appended to it, or run out of mana. In case of earth manipulation, it means I have to say
"Earth manipulation stop!"
To control a skill where the outcome is not clearly predetermined, I just have to think in my mind about what I want to achieve. With the "earth manipulation" skill I am able to construct walls, spikes and whatever other construct I can think of around me in a radius of one meter.
The 'dash' skill is pretty self-explanatory, I just have to get used to the sudden increase in speed. This will hopefully come with time and more experience.
Having finished testing my skills, I began to examine the last remaining menu point "inventory". The inventory is, as one would expect, a screen where I can store various items. The storage is made up of a grid, where one field holds one single item or multiple items of the same type and an indicator in the top right corner is showing the current and maximum weight of items in my inventory. There doesn't seem to be an upper limit on how many items I can carry, as long as I stay within the weight limit.
"Now that I have checked everything from the interface, I think I have a pretty good idea what I am capable of. Next, I should think about what I want to achieve with this second life I was granted."
