"Mum- What the heck-" Alex stared at her. Certainly this would be one of her mothers jokes? Alex got up and brought the plate to the kitchen, set it down on the counter, and washed her hands. "NATHAN!" Alex yelled. She heard a loud crash from upstairs, clearly her brother had fallen to the ground while trying to get up from his chair.
Alex saw him run down the stairs clumsily and trip as he reached the bottom stair, she flinched and walked slowly over to her brother. He scowled at her.
"do you have any part in this?" Alex said while pointing at the plate. Nathan clumsily looked up at her, "what do you mean? You ate all your food?" That night Alex couldn't sleep, she had so many questions. Why was there no food on my plate, why had my mother given me this, doesn't she know I need food? She turned on her side as her stomach grumbled. The next morning she went to her mother and asked her, "Mom, why did you give me an empty plate? I was hungry all night!" Her mom simply looked at her and walked away. Ok, something is up, she thought. She went over to her dad and tried to get answers out of him, he just stared at her, motionless, and mute. Alex ran up the stairs to her room to call her friend. No answer. She went to the park and asked for help from her neighbor, no answer. She went to the police department, no answer. By now, Alex was tired of walking from place to place with no answers.
