He listened as her breathe steady and sleep finally took her. She had revealed much to him today and he still desired to know more about her. The need he had to know everything about her was becoming all-consuming, he also fought against the urge to kiss her and bury himself deep inside her.
In the short few weeks, she had become his everything. She was his calm, peace, and his haven. The universe and Ramiel forged her just for him and Lilith guided their path to each other, there was no doubt in his mind. She was his. And the Demon Gods helped anyone who dared to challenge that.
He watched her sleep, the way her chest rose and fell steady as her breathe gently fanned across his chest. He wished he could stay like that way with her, to feel like a person for just a little while. A peace washed over him, taking with it all the pain and turmoil he felt over the past few weeks. It felt good to be alone with her and all he wanted was to put his lips on her sweet lips. He dipped his head forward and inhaled her scent, the warm vanilla and lavender only helped to increase his need and desire for her. There had to be a way for him to be with her completely without it driving him insane and weakening her. Even though it already was, he needed to be with her and inside her. He needed to devour her wholly and never let her go.
He growled then he gently forced himself from the bed, her protesting whimper caused him to pause and contemplate staying with her. His chest puffed knowing that even in sleep she seemed to need him. He looked around her room even though it was dark, he could see just fine.
She was a minimalist; he nodded in approval and walked out of her out of her room but not before looking at her one, more time. It beyond doubt would not be the last time he saw her; she was his and he would find a way to claim her, her body, mind, and soul without breaking her.
As he walked around her living, room and looked around, he thought of all the possibilities of what could happen if he mated with her. He stopped then walked to her bookshelf, it was the first thing she did when she walked into his bedroom for the first time. She was as much a reader as he was, but from the way she admired the books he had, he already knew this.
I would break her, he though. He wiped his hand down his face; his kind mentally destroyed human women when they mated with them. The hours of mating his kind needed, he needed and the pure energy they took left women mad or as vegetables. He could not do that to her, he could not endure the thought of losing her and him being the cause of it. As much as he wanted too, he had to resist. When he was with his own, he did not have to worry they could sustain each other.
Even the scholars in the ancient library told him there was no way she would survive a time with him. Once he had made up his mind that he would come to her again, his first visit was to the library. Speaking only to the scholars, he trusted and knew they would not repeat the conversation they had. Even with their vast knowledge and access to text older than even them, human women were not meant for Incubuses. It is why they resorted to
He walked over the electric fireplace that sat against the wall below a mantle. The mantle held picture after picture of her with friends and family. He picked up a picture with her and a little boy with a bright smile and eyes that seemed to sparkle. This had to be her son, he was beautiful like his mother and he could sense the love between them from just the picture.
Another picture captured his attention, he placed down the one he was holding and picked it up. The woman standing next to Zuri looked familiar, but he could not place her, and danger seemed to seep from her. He did not know how or why but she was a threat to him, he would have to ask Zuri about her.
He needed to leave, the sun would be rising soon, and he needed the rest. He would have to figure out a way to stay with her even when the sun rose and once, he did, nothing would keep them apart. Making his way toward her baloney, he stopped in front of the glass doors and cut his thumb on his thumb then bend down ran his blood across the base while reciting the incantation he had spent hours looking for. He walked over to the front door and repeated it before he went back to her room.
He knelt close to her bed and watched her; he was happy for the first time since he met her. And again, that calm and peace he left with her was back. He stood then shifted out of her room, his wings spreading out behind him and he propelled himself towards Caina. He felt safe leaving her; the incantation that he said marked her apartment as his that meant that no other demon could enter it but him.
He landed outside of Caina taking the steps from the abandon subway that led to its entrance. Here at the main entrance of Caina even though it was always guarded, the doors faded and allowed entrance to anyone baring the Caina mark and any demon of the nine realms. There was no worry of war among the realms that threat only came from the human world. Any realm that was stupid enough to bring war, they would die at the hands of the Caina army under his lead.
Walking through the streets, even though he wished to be treated as any other few ever did. Many bowed or cleared a path for him, and many wanted to bring their grievances to him even though there was nothing he could do about it. That was the problem with his title as future heir; many forgot that he did not serve in the role. He was simply fighter that protected his people as many others did.
He had more to protect now as his thoughts drifted back to Zuri, she had become his life and he would do anything to protect her. Not just her but her son as Zuri, her son was her life that meant he would be his as well. If his laws were to pass, he would be able to take her as his bride, but he doubted the council would accept her. While they did not explicitly say humans in his opinion, they did not exude them either.
He turned down the street of his house. His walks home was usually quiet since it was the only house on the street. He had chosen to build on it for that specific reason while he valued time with his family, soldiers, and few friends, he like the quiet space being this far away provided. It even allowed him to build the tunnel that safely allowed him to take Zuri home. He shook his head and chuckled at how easily his mind brought him back to her.
Seconds later, he growled at the sight leaning against his door, “What do you want Dimitra?”
“Commander Eros, it has been some time since I last saw you,” she said with a smile.
He stood in front of her and folded his arms across his chest, “That still does not tell me why you are here.”
“I wanted to see how you were since your recovery.”
His eyes narrowed at her; he knew she could care less about how he was since it involved someone else besides her. Instead of responding to her, he shook his head to the left to get her to move aside so he could go inside and leave her on the other side of the door.
She stepped aside and posed another question, “One night with that insignificant barbaric human and you forget what polite conversation is?”
“She should not have been her.”
“You are inconsiderate. I brought her here to save you and that is exactly what she did. Even if it was not the way I intended. You should be thanking me but instead you threaten me.”
“She would have died if you had your way and that is something I will not abide by or permit.”
Dimitra’s breathing became erratic, she was struggling to maintain her calm and present the image she made sure everyone around her saw. The image of a future empress. “What is your obsession with this human. I really should have gutted her where I found and drain every bit of her useless blood.”
Eros gripped his door handle tightly, breathed deeply, if he were to kill her, he would never see Zuri again, and Dimitra was not worth that sacrifice. Dimitra thought she was above all humans and that they should be subservient to them, if she had her way, if she were to become Empress there would be an all-out war with the human world and as much as he hated to admit it. She would win and she would not stop there, she would attack the other realms under they were all under her power. It would not be just the human world that suffered it would be theirs as well.
“You know I wanted to rip your face off for bringing her here, in fact I had planned to do just that but well after just one night with her. I should thank you for it,” he held her glaze and smiled.
He watched as her lips pursed into a thin line and her eyes shifted to a deep red. Good, he continued, “I often questioned why I wanted those ancient marriage laws changed and now I know why. Why that thought held on to me and would not let go until I changed them. Because apparently the hell knew you would bring my destiny to me. And I must admit my destiny never tasted so enticing, so addictive and so …,” he caught her hand effortlessly before it could connect with his face.
“As I was about to say, so addictive.” he threw her hand back to her.
She cradled her hand as she glared at him, “You forget, Eros dear you cannot mate with a human unless you want to drive her mad,” she spat back at him.
“Where there is will, we found a way,” with that, he left her seeping on the doorstep. It did not matter that it was not the truth now it would be the truth soon.
Dimitra’s eyes blazed a fire red, she no longer wanted Eros for what he could make her. No, now she just wanted him to die along with the disgusting human he had chosen. She thought as she stormed away from his home, even if she had to hunt every night. She would find the human drag her back here and gut her right in front of him then she would kill him. She smiled as the thought played over and over in her mind. Eros had humiliated her for the last time.
She would need allies to help her, there were few she knew were tired playing second to Eros and with what she was offering there was no doubt they would side with her. She remembered when the human was running her way through the city and the looks some had. They would be many who would want a human for food and more. She walked off in the direction of her first soon to be ally.
