Klara is now wide awake, even though she was fast asleep just a moment ago. Where did the sound come from? Klara has always been a light sleeper, but normal sounds like the cars outside or the slight buzzing of the fridge normally don’t wake her up. The sound that woke her must have been unusual. Klara lies awake, carefully listening for other noises. A car. The heater. Klara turns on the bedside light with a „Click!“. Sitting in her bed, she carefully looks around her room. An advantage of a one room apartment is, that you can see the whole flat without getting up. Did something change compared to before she went to bed? She studies every detail of her room. The desk. The kitchen. The coat rack. Nothing seemed to have changed. Maybe in the bathroom? Klara gets up and slowly walks towards the small bathroom. The sound her bare feet make on the floor seem unusually loud to her. But there are also no changes there. Maybe she just imagined the sound? Klara decides to make a nice cup of tea and watch a video to calm down again. She puts on the kettle and prepares her tea cup. Then she sits down, opens her laptop and „click, click“ starts to look for a nice video to watch. Finding one was easy and she reads through the mostly nice comments while waiting for the water to boil. „Click!“ The sound scares Klara. But she immediately realizes, that it was the kettle turning off. The water already stopped bubbling. Klara pours the water in her tea cup and sits down to watch the video.
It worked and she was now calm enough to go back to sleep. She puts her cup into the sink and goes to bed. She still wants to know what made the sound that woke her up, but it might be impossible to find out. Falling asleep seems just as impossible. Klara is turning in bed, barely managing to drift off. Just when she finally managed to dozed off a „Click! Peep...Peep...Peep“ wakes her up again. Her alarm clock.
