Father boasted about my mini-achievement to all his aides the next day. He told them how he saw me walk and proved the Great Elder wrong. He recalled how Ash wasn’t able to witness my first walk because he was on a ‘vacation’ Father paid personally… which was wrong. I realized how he didn't notice Ash’s presence that night and that no one corrected him about that. Everyone seemed to understand the implication of Father knowing that Ash was there so no one dared talk.
Three years have passed and I am now three years old. I’m living a good life, everyone is doing everything they can to accommodate me. I am getting spoiled day by day, and I can confidently say that I’m loving the treatment. Today is the day where I dine with my whole family, a custom done by the royal family every month. During my years in this world, I noticed that this world is poorly created- the fashion sense, for example, is a mix of both historical Western fashion with no accuracy or whatsoever. The current trend is crinoline dresses and everyone seems to fancy bold colors right now- which I hate to the core because I am a fan of pastel colors.
“No, I look like Snow White! Snow White wouldn’t even think of putting this on!” I whined. Nanny and Jenna are trying to dress me in a blue dress adorned with a yellow bow tie at the back and a bright red strap on the waist.
“But Saridayang, this dress won’t possibly be in whoever-that-girl-is’ wardrobe as it is custom made for you.” Nanny reasoned.
“No, it’s hideous!” I stumped my foot.
“Then how about this?” She showed a puffed white dress with a bow at the back. It was good but the bow is too big.
“I look like I’m getting married.”
“But Saridayang, no one gets married in white. White is only worn by children under the age of eight. When you get married, you would don the royal garb which is colored purple.”
“That’s even more hideous!”
A knock was heard on my door. It was Ash. “Gods’ great souls, thank goodness that you’re here.” Nanny said. Ever since Ash and I got closer, he became the only person to get things going, which everyone is thankful for. He’s been the go-to person by people who can’t handle my bratty self.
“I don’t wanna wear it!” I whined as soon as they handed Ash the dress.
He sat in front of me and observed the dress carefully. “This does look hideous but this one is cuter-ey.” Ash said in his Areylan accent, with -ey in almost every sentences.
“I know but I don’t wanna wear white, I promised myself not to wear one before I get married.”
“But you already did…” Jenna whispered.
“That was when I was still a baby, no one understood what I wanted back then but now, I’m saying I don’t wanna so I’m not gonna.” Although Earth slang, people understand the words wanna and gonna, they thought that since I’m still young, it’s still hard for me to pronounce words properly- which was wrong because I have an extensive vocabulary for a three-year-old.
“But you will need to wear a purple gown when you get married, it is the official color of Cerulean Royal women, after all.”
“That’s only for Royal women. If I get married, I won’t be called Dayang-dayang anymore so why do I need to wear one? It’s not like I’m gonna marry Brother Lothario or something!”
“Haay…” he sighed. He put his hand on his face, “this is getting out of hands. Fine. Why don’t you choose whatever dress you want today and when you see your father later, request a change of wardrobe-ey? You can even tell him that you won’t wear purple at your wedding, knowing how favored you are by the king he might even bend the rule for you. What do you think-ey?”
I pondered on it for a bit. “Fine. Okay…”
He took my hand and led me to my walk-in closet. “Which one do you like to wear?”
“Anything without a bow.”
“We can’t do that-ey, it’s a must for a child your age to wear a bow.”
“But I don’t want a bow.”
“Why not wear something that has a small ribbon instead?” He showed me a plain blue dress decorated with a thin ribbon at the back.
“Okay. But not that one either.”
“How about this one?” he asked while holding another dress.
“It’s okay.”
He helped me put on a primrose yellow dress however when everything was settled and we’re already on the way to Father’s palace, I stopped. “I look like a mustard,” I commented.
“Would you like to change into another dress, Saridayang?” Nanny asked.
I nodded, “The blue one.”
“Don’t worry Saridayang, you can just change before going inside the dining hall. We still have time to spare before dinner anyway.”
I nodded and obediently followed them in an empty drawing room inside Father’s palace.
“It’s a good thing that Ash told us to bring the dress with us in case you accidentally sully the dress you’re wearing."
