"This is impossible!" Cailin yells, throwing his wand to the ground as Ella and Julian sigh in frustration.
They all have been trying to wake their wands up for the last thirty minutes, and so far? Nobody has won the race. Nobody in the classroom.
"We must be doing something wrong!" Ella yells, and some of the girls in class, who have been watching, all giggle as they watch the four try to figure it out. Well, they are more so watching Cailin.
Finley sits down on the floor, wand in front of him as he stares down at it. He thinks hard, paying no attention to Ella, Julian, and Cailin who are all standing around yelling at each other.
"Maybe we're thinking about this too hard," Julian states as he sets his hands on his hips.
Cailin throws his head back. "I really hope this is worth it, my head hurts from all this thinking."
The blonde picks up his wand, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes. From what he has gathered from the books he has read, the most magical objects in the world work when you think about things that make you strong. Finley does not know how to put it into words but making your wand think you are trusting enough to wield it, might get it to work.
At first, Penelope immediately pops into the young boy’s head. The beautiful smiling face of his mother calms him down. But when nothing seems to be happening, his head begins to drift. Cailin's face suddenly pops up next, shocking him when he feels a new emotion sweep him off his feet. While it surprises him for a moment, Finley thinks nothing of it. But that is before he notices his right hand. The one that is holding the wand. He can feel it beginning to heat up. Finley decides to roll with it, concentrating as he continues to flash memories of him and Cailin one by one, and the wand shakes in his hand.
"—ley…." He hears someone call out, but he is way too focused to stop now. He can feel the power of the wand, scorching heat running through his palms and up his arm. He is doing it. I must be doing it!
"—Fin…!"
My wand is waking u—!
"Finley!" Cailin shouts, and the blonde’s eyes pop open.
A burst of white-hot magic explodes from Finley's wand. People scream, the teachers jerking their heads to watch the spectacle. The ball of energy suddenly hits the back wall, only to bounce off and hit the other one. It sparkles as lightning bolts of magic snap through the air, making the room rise in temperature.
"Everybody hit the floor!" Mr. Len shouts, the scholars screaming as they all duck and cover their heads as the ball of energy continues to fly from one end of the large classroom to the other. The hairs on Finley's arms and neck stand on end as lightbulbs shatter.
"Reversian!" Ms. Green shouts, her wand glowing hot gold as Finley's ball of energy gets sucked into his teacher's wand. The mentor quickly turns towards the backdoors. "Ally!" She yells, the energy expelling itself out the piece of wood, shooting towards the door. The glass shatters as it flies into the afternoon sky. Students scream.
Then, everyone is silent. Well, almost everyone. "Cailin, are you alright?!" Finley shouts, getting to his feet and running to his friend who got shocked back since he was standing too close.
Cailin groans over on the floor, turning to his back as Finley, Julian, Ella, and the teachers rush over. Finley kneels next to the brunette who, oddly enough, looks completely fine. His wand is still in his hand, but if anything, Cailin will only have a mild headache.
Finley helps him sit up as his friends and the teachers come over. "Are you guys okay?" Ella asks, looking confused herself at the sight of a completely fine Cailin. Not a scratch is on him.
The blonde nods, Cailin groaning. "Yeah, I’m good." He turns to Finley. "That was awesome."
The other boy smiles, turning when his teachers come to stand over them. "Whose energy was that?!" Ms. Green asks the four quickly, eyes frightened as Mr. Len twitches behind her, antsy.
"Finley did it," Julian whispers, eyes widening before he smiles excitedly at his friend. "You did it! You woke your wand!"
The younger boy looks down at his wand, eyes wide in awe as his starry night seems to glow with what looks like tiny fireworks, spewing from tip sporadically. A hum flows through his palm, comforting and relaxing. His wand is definitely awake. He turns back to his teachers, who seem to be at a loss for words, but do not look very happy about it. "What's wrong?" Finley asks nervously.
"You and Cailin's wands are magically connected. Once one wakes…."
"The other one follows?" Ella finishes, and the mentors do not respond.
The entire class has stopped what they are doing to watch, eyes wide in fascination as Cailin swallows. "Um…." He raises his wand, which is vibrating violently.
The mentors back up.
Only seconds go by before his wand explodes. Yet again. The scholars scream again, covering their heads as tentacles of black ribbons unwrap themselves continuously from Cailin's wand. They swirl like a tornado above the entire class, coming closer and closer together.
"Back up!" Ms. Green shouts and Ella pulls Finley away, just when the black ribbons connect in the middle. Purple light sprouts from the top, before catapulting back to the floor.
The light hits the tip of Cailin's wand, making the ribbons rip themselves apart in a large explosion of purple. Light shines like a flashlight from the top of Cailin's now, very awake, wand. Purple sparkles and fireworks sprout from the light as the brunette brings it closer to his face. "Whoa," he only states and Julian scoffs.
"'Whoa.' That's all you say!?" He shouts and the brunette looks up, shrugging.
"Well, what else can I say?" He turns to the mentors who both are shocked, but Ms. Green coughs uncomfortably, wiping down dust that is not there on her black dress. She turns to look at Mr. Len. "I would have to say that that was unexpected."
"I would have to agree."
"Well." Ms. Green turns back to the two boys, taking a breath. "Congratulations on being the first people to wake your wands. Your prize will be given to you both on the morrow." Ms. Green takes a look around the classroom, meeting the eyes of all the students who all stare in shock, completely silent. "Well!? Get back to work! Let's get to waking the rest of your wands up, we only have a week!"
