Mo Shin Yun carefully looked at the small piece of charcoal in his hands before returning to his place sitting down. Thinking over everything Han Shu Yan said before he laid out a plan for what he had to do when in order to be sure of each step before starting. After he began. First, he carefully copied the small invocation diagram Han Shu Yan had shown them and which was still visible on the big scroll floating in front of the class.
For some reason, this reminded him of all those mandalas he had coloured in during his boring classes but at the same time, it was a lot simpler and with a lot fewer lines. With the evocation circle laid out, he carefully put the charcoal in the middle of the diagram closing his eyes and starting to explore his soul force. This time he easily entered his sea of consciousness and found the small egg, his core, lazily pulsating with a magenta light. He mentally poked the core before moving on to examining his new meridian system. Throughout his whole body, a beautiful magenta coloured energy was flowing from his core it circulated through every part of his body.
As he expanded his consciousness even further, he could feel small light particles of energy all around him and his body was slowly gathering those through his acupuncture points. With each time the core got brighter it would gather light particles and with every time it got darker magenta particles were emitted, less than those gathered but he still constantly emitted some energy.
Seeing that Ma Shin Yun decided to try and see if he could force the energy out of his body. Forcing it in probably was the best way to further your cultivation base but right now that wasn't his goal instead, he wanted to surround that small piece of charcoal with his energy. It took him a few tries at first until finally, a magenta light dust fell from his hands. He had no control over it what so ever it was just like dry ice mist.
Leaving his body at his hands the mist fell right onto the floor and spilt out from there. At first, Mo Shin Yun stopped emitting energy trying to control what he had already emitted but he quickly realized that doing so would require a lot more training. So, the only solution possible for him was to push out more of that energy.
Soon the thick cloud of energy fog reached the evocation and suddenly it felt like the energy was sucked in. The evocation was filling with energy and focusing it forming it to build a dense fog around the charcoal. Seeing that Mo Shin Yun at first thought that he would really evoke the fire element. But he wasn't feeling happy about it since fire was a lot of work and needed a lot of attention. As soon as he thought that the dense fog started pouring into the charcoal as if reacting with it. Leaning closer Mo Shin Yun carefully observed the charcoal waiting for it to ignite like Han Shu Yan said it would.
But nothing happened and after a few more minutes the dense energy around the charcoal completely disappeared. Heaving out a sigh of relief Mo Shin Yun sat back straight looking around to see how the others were doing. At first, he couldn't see much since everyone was just sitting there with their heads down staring at the charcoal. But after concentrating for some time and trying to see more Mo Shin Yun started to feel the energy the people were emitting. He could tell who was already pushing it out and who was still experimenting.
To his surprise, he had finished rather quickly making him feel a little weird but then again, he had taken his time experimenting around while building the core so maybe it was just that he had a better feeling for his own energy already. Since everyone else was still concentrating he just sat quietly looking at his charcoal. Han Shu Yan had said something about the charcoal having small particles of a fire elemental in it and Mo Shin Yun was really interested he wanted to find out more about those elementals and about how the evocation worked.
With his head low, he started to take a closer look at the charcoal without taking it out of the evocation since Han Shu Yan said the charcoal needed to stay inside the evocation for the whole hour even if it didn't react. From what Mo Shin Yun could tell this was a piece of charcoal. It didn't look like much else but that. With a slightly disappointed feeling, Mo Shin Yun made a mental note to look up more information in the library later.
After that he spent the rest of the time given just contemplating everything that had happened so far and everything, he had learned about this world trying to store all those information sorting them into small categories of 'things you need to know', 'things you might look intelligent if knowing', 'things that are gossip' and 'thing that if you don't know them, people will know you transmigrated'. The last category was the most important one.
After some time, the first students started to succeed in evoking the fire element here and there the charcoal started catching fire lighting up the room now and then. It wasn't that many maybe eight or ten people out of the fifty-something in the room. An hour later Han Shu Yan gathered all the charcoal again and ordered the people who had evoked the fire element to follow him. The rest of them had a short break until the next teacher would come.
The next teacher was a woman in brownish, blackish and moss green robes it wasn't really easy to tell the colour since it changed every time the fabric moved. "Everyone I'm Chan Mi Ai. I will be going through the earth evocation with you please settle down and pay attention because making mistakes can be dangerous." She spoke as soon as she entered the room. Quickly the place quieted down and everyone turned to pay attention to her.
"You already did the fire evocation right? Since the earth evocation isn't much different, I will only tell you the main points on how you do it." She quickly started explaining the earth evocation and since it really wasn't much different from the fire one Mo Shin Yun easily remembered all steps. After that, she handed out some chalk for them and everyone got a small pouch with some soil in it. Returning to his place with all the items Mo Shin Yun sat back down removing the fire evocation diagram and instead drew the one for the earth element.
Closing his eyes once more it was the same as before soon the energy engulfed the pouch with the soil and started to seep into it. This time Mo Shin Yun didn't feel like he didn't want the element though the earth element was a hassle since it always needed to support another element to fully develop. After the energy completely seeped into the pouch and nothing happened Mo Shin Yun took a look around again. He wasn't even sure what should happen since earth wasn't as obvious as fire where the charcoal just started burning.
After some time, he got his answer in front of one student the small pouch opened and a dense clump of earth fell out soon it started drying up and turning into dust. Well, that was anticlimactic, Mo Shin Yun thought to himself before paying it no more attention. He was wondering about what would happen next. He was already rejected by two out of the five elements. He wasn't worried since there were three more to go, he was just exhausted and bored. Lucky those who had a fire or earth soul element since they could leave and already start their first lesson. Maybe he had luck and the next element was his. But then again metal sounded like a big hassle.
He never had a talent for using knives and metal really sounded like he needed to use a lot of knives. With that though he once more went over all the elements as they were introduced to them. Surely enough he really liked the idea of having a water soul element since he was only a yellow soul, he had no hurry to advance and he always was more on the let's take it slow and relax side of things and with water a slow steady development really sounded like something beneficial for him.
Sometime after the next teacher came in and as before it was the same thing, evocation diagram, a small piece of metal and a rejection after the energy seeped into it. Those with a metal soul element were able to melt the metal without heating it making it look all wobbly. Sighing Mo Shin Yun put his head in his hands as he looked at the floor in front of him by now only a few twenty people were left.
When the door opened again for the next teacher to come in everyone turned to look at the door. "That's the transparent non-ghost form before." One of the people next to Mo Shin Yun whispered making him look at the teacher a little closer. He was right that was the androgynous-looking ghost-like human from before. "My name is Wan Min Shu. I'm here to help you with the water evocation." The ghostly human spoke.
They walked towards the front of the room with a smile swiftly getting out all the things they would need. "Ok first things first since I always get asked that at some point. I'm a human." They said with a soft smile as if finding the idea that people asked otherwise amusing. "Ok since you did three evocations already this should be quick." With an elegant swing of their hand, a scroll appeared. "This is the evocation diagram..." Stopping in their speech Wan Min Shu started searching in the sleeve of their white blue robe. "Uhm give me a second... Ah here is it. This is a small drop of water form a water elemental." They pulled out a big pouch and as they explained opened the pouch to show everyone a small jade bottle.
Gathering all the things he would need quickly Mo Shin Yun returned to his seat. After following the diagram and closing his eyes he once more poured soul energy into the diagram watching the energy engulf the bottle just before it seeped into the bottle and nothing happened. With a deep sigh, Mo Shin Yun sat back up ready to give up on getting a water element even though he really wanted it he, after all, couldn't choose. Maybe he really was a wood element? That wouldn't be too bad either. But he still wanted the water element.
As he thought about it suddenly, he heard a little sound from inside the bottle as if water was swashing against the inside of the bottle. Looking down he saw that the water level in the bottle was slowly rising. With a big smile, he just watched it rise until it nearly filled the bottle. He really managed to get what he wanted after all. Cupping the bottle carefully in his hands he took the small stopper and closed the bottle again. Now he wasn't as bored anymore. Quietly waiting he could feel the excitement rising inside of him. Finally, he could stop with those evocations and start classes.
An hour passed and all the students with a water soul element gathered around Wan Min Shu. Without saying much, they were led out of the room and into a different classroom not far from the first. After they entered Wan Min Shu turned to the front of the classroom where a young woman in green robes stood. "This is my first disciple Lu An Yu she will teach you for the first few weeks before you start practising and learning by yourself." With that Wan Min Shu left the room. "Everyone nice to meet you I will be teaching you about how to control and cultivate a water soul element. After you have learned the basics the next steps depend completely on you."
After that Lu An Yu gave a long, detailed overview of the water element and how it was cultivated and other important points. Carefully listening Mo Shin Yun started taking notes since he had taken along some paper and brush. He really wanted to not miss any detail about this since this would affect his whole life now that he had a water soul element, he would need to choose a path based on that since the element was permanent and a person can't have more than one element.
After the lecture, Lu An Yu gave them a few practical tasks to train their control over their soul force and then left them with it. Soon after she left some of the students started to gather around and discuss their different experiences with the evocation and the task given by Lu An Yu. Joining in Mo Shin Yun laughed and talked along with the others.
After classes he returned home to practice some more and later in the evening, he would go to the library to borrow some new books and return the old ones. Like that his days were spent in tranquillity. Morning classes were different depending on the day of the week since they had cultivation, basic soul element and basic ShuCha classes but they were all interesting and helpful. After the first month of introduction classes, the new sect disciples were finally introduced to reality.
After a month of tranquillity cultivation and soul, element classes were over and instead, they had to help out in the big sect canteen. The best way to get better at something was through doing it was the explanation given by their teachers when they told them that from now on instead of coming to classes, they had to go to the kitchen to help out. Some classes like basic ShuCha classes still continued but every other day they didn't have morning classes they were working in the kitchen chopping vegetables, heating water, giving out food and cleaning up.
Mo Shin Yun quickly got used to the work since he had always worked part-time to support himself ever since he was sixteen. He didn't really mind it and even welcomed the work since it helped with both his cultivation and with gaining even more control over his soul force. It was exhausting working from morning to evening but in a good way and in the evening when returned home he would feel rather calm taking the time to cultivate.
Like this, a few more month went by Mo Shin Yun's soul energy steadily grew. He didn't advance like some of the fire element disciples or developed a really strong control over his soul energy like the metal soul element disciple but he steadily increased his cultivation and his skills. As the days went by Mo Shin Yun started to feel more and more like he could spend the rest of his life living in this tranquil world. Few events were happening in the sect but because he was just a low-level disciple and didn't reach any achievements those events had little to do with him. Food was given by the sect he had a roof over his head and he got along well with his fellow disciples.
But as it always is the tranquillity only lasted for a few months. The change came one morning when Mo Shin Yun woke up finding some weird colouring on his arm. At first, he didn't take it seriously, since things like that happen, there were some foods in this world that actually made the body react. So, he just quickly washed up putting on his robes and left the room. "Mo Shin Yun." He was spotted right away and called over by his fellow disciples whom he had kitchen duty with.
