"Well, how was that for an opening ceremony?", Thomas grinned at Allen.
"Yeah it was rather, strange I guess you could say", Allen responded to him as they were leaving the room.
"Well, since we're all F ranks, I guess we'll be seeing each other in class, right?", Thomas asked while heading over to the first class.
"Yeah true, we both have the F ranked class today", Allen said while heading with him and Cecily.
"I think our class is this way", Thomas notioned towards the back part of the academy.
There were many rooms for each class, however there was a class in the very back of the hallway. The area around the classroom was very dusty and dirty, as if it hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. All the areas around the other classrooms looked as if they were cleaned regularly, notioning that the classroom in the back was most likely neglected.
"You sure this is our classroom Thomas?", Allen asked while they walked towards the classroom.
"Yep this is it! The F ranked classroom", he stopped right at the door, where on the side of the door had the sign "F" on it.
"Well, let's go inside, shall we?", Thomas opened the door to let Allen and Cecily in.
Each of them headed inside, where they were awaiting a few students and the teacher inside the room already. Like the outside of the classroom, the room was very dirty and dusty. There were only a few desks that filled the room, a single teachers desk, a board and a small podium in front of the board. The teacher sat at her desk, appearing to be reading some sort of book.
"Well, let's take a seat then", Thomas sat down at one of the desks, where Cecily then sat down on a desk next to him.
Allen took the seat on the other side of Thomas. The desk was dirty, similar to the classroom. The desk felt like it was going to fall apart at any given time. This made Allen a little uneasy, as if he were going to fall in a hole and never come out if the desk broke.
"Ah ew, so much dust!". Thomas coughed as he wiped down the dust that was on his desk.
"Now it's on your hands too!", Cecily pointed at his hands, where of course, dust could be found there.
"Ah what? Is there anywhere in this classroom where it isn't dusty!", he said as he tried to get the dust off of his hands.
Both Cecily and Allen laughed. Allen felt like this was the beginning of a friendship between the three of them. He felt happy here already.
The teacher had put down her book and headed to the front of the room, right in front of the board and behind the small podium. Allen hadn't almost noticed her getting up and into the front of the room. Now that he got a better look at her, she looked a bit attractive, even for an older woman. Although the sort of blank intimidating look on her face would probably make others distance themselves from her.
"Alright then, now that all of you are all situated, we can finally begin", the teacher's voice filled the room. "My name is Danet Florence, but you can just call me Ms. Florence"
"Nice to meet you Ms. Florence", Thomas waved at her, with his usual grin and friendly attitude. Ms. Florence ignored him and continued.
"Now then, let me make this perfectly clear: all of you in this class, no matter your year, status, or lineage, are all F ranks. That means you are currently failing at the school and need to achieve at least D rank to graduate to the next year. Although one of you is lucky enough to have to achieve at least C rank by the end of the year", she glared at Allen for a second.
Her attitude seemed to show she didn't care about this class, and maybe even the academy itself. She just seemed to be teaching this class because she is required to. Whether they liked it or not, this was going to be their teacher, unless of course they rise in rank. Ms. Florence continued.
"You must do everything possible in order to get to D rank. Whether it be studying, training, or both. Each day you can get the opportunity to train in the training grounds of the school. In order to get up to D rank, you must pass the F rank exam, which simply consists of a written and physical exam, nothing too major" the teacher explained.
Allen knew that he had to do what it takes to pass his conditions. He has already begun training, and plans to train as much as possible.
"You can attend the academy up to three years, your third year being your last year. Once you graduate your third year, you can then become a full fledged magical knight. That's only if you can get out of F rank in the first place, that is", she noted.
Silence still filled the room. Even Thomas kept quiet to listen to what the teacher had to say, despite his talkative nature.
"And of course, we have the annual Magical Knights Tournament at the end of the year, where any student D rank and above can participate, except one individual", she once again glared at Allen for a moment.
"All sorts of people, mages and non-mages alike, watch the tournament. Many students are also scouted there, for possible internships of all sorts. If you wish to showcase your abilities, the tournament is the best way to go about it. That's if of course, any of you can actually get to D rank to participate", she explained.
"So, if we participate in the tournament, and we do well, magical knight divisions could hire us for internships, is that correct?", Thomas asked in a surprisingly serious tone.
"Yes, that's correct", she answered him. "Aside from that, each day I will be going over different various subjects in class, which you will need to study in order to pass your written exam. If you pass your written exam, you can take the physical one. Pass that, and you can become a D rank. Other than that, you can use the time here you have to study and train. Feel free to use the training grounds at the academy to train, although some days instead of class time we will be in there anyways", she explained.
Finally, Allen thought. I can get some good training in even during class time.
"That's all I have for today. Any remaining class time today you can use to your leisure. Chat, train, study, I don't care. We will continue tomorrow, same time", she explained while heading back to her desk, where she promptly sat down and started to read her book once more.
"Well, wasn't that an interesting first class?", Thomas joked.
"I suppose so. Either way, we can now use this remaining time to do as we wish", Allen leaned back into his chair while stretching his arms.
"Do you mind if we could train together Allen? I was hoping to get some practice in soon anyways. Plus, we have extra time before class ends and then we can head out of the school and go wherever. So, do you mind?", Thomas asked Allen.
"No, not at all Thomas. It would be nice to have someone to train with. After all, you can't exactly practice on yourself", Allen joked.
"Great! Oh and by the way, I don't mind if you call me Tom. But only on one condition… I get to call you Al!", he grinned at Allen.
"Uh- that's fine. Alright nice to meet you again, Tom", Allen reached out and shook Thomas' hand.
"Yeah, likewise. Also, I'm sure that Lily over here won't mind if you call her her nickname as well, right Lily?", Thomas asked her.
Cecily was once again wrapped up in her own thoughts, lost in whatever she was thinking. She then realized that Thomas was talking to her when he gave her a nudge.
"Oh- sorry, my bad. What is it?", she asked.
"Allen over here is wondering if it's ok if he calls you Lily like I do"
"Wait I didn't ask if I could… nevermind", Allen was surprised at the fact Thomas was saying that he was the one who initiated if it was ok to call her that.
"Yeah that's fine, nice to meet you again Al", she smiled at him.
"I.. wha- wait did you hear that he called me that?", Allen was in shock for a second.
Thomas broke out into laughter at the fact that Cecily came up with the same nickname as him even though she wasn't paying attention to their initial conversation.
"See? Your nickname should be Al!"
"I- I guess that works", Allen responded still flustered.
"Anyways," Tom was saying while trying not to laugh in between, "You ready for some training?", he got up out of his chair, starting to stretch.
"Yeah, let's go for it", Allen got up out of his chair.
"Care to join us Lily?", Tom asked her.
"Sure, I'll join", she got up as well.
But before they could walk out of the room, a student entered the room. She was dressed in slightly nicer outfit, most likely indicating she is on the student council. She looked over at Ms. Danet, who didn't even react when she came in.
"Ms. Florence? The director is calling for a student from your class"
"Sure, go ahead we're finished anyways", she said without even looking up from her book.
Perhaps she was looking for Allen, as he figured that William may try to contact him eventually.
The student looked across the room until her eyes finally landed on Allen.
"Allen Fleming, the head director wishes to speak with you"
"Alright, I will follow in a moment", Allen responded.
Both Tom and Lily had surprised looks on their faces.
"Wait, the director wants to speak to you? On the first day? Did you already screw up?", he asked while laughing a little. Even Cecily laughed for a second.
"No no. It was nothing like that. I just happen to know him", Allen responded.
"You know the director?"
"Well, it's a long story, but he used to be my mentor of sorts back when I was younger", Allen responded.
"Wait really? Woah that's so cool. Trained by the William Windblade. Pretty epic not going to lie", Thomas responded with a surprised look on his face.
"Anyways, I'll catch up with you guys later. If not, perhaps we could train tomorrow?", Allen asked as he was walking out of the classroom.
"Sure see you then!", Tom said as he and Lily waved him goodbye.
Allen began to follow the student to where the head director, no, Allen's mentor is located. It was time for their reunion.
