“I don’t see why not.” Angil replied, he made the small light appear over his right index finger and prepared to draw the V.
“I want to try myself.” Ajax said and quickly held onto Angil’s wrist, stopping him, “I remember what you drew, so please let me do it.”
“Alright, just draw the rune anywhere on me.” Angil replied, “Just channel your mana into your fingertips in the shape of an orb and draw the streala rune.”
Ajax nodded and turned Angil’s wrist around, to copy Angil, he extended his right index finger and took a deep breath. He tried to follow the instructions he was given but he had no idea what this mana stuff was supposed to feel like much less how to channel it. He looked up at Angil and shook his head, Angil sighed and touched his shoulder. Ajax felt a sudden throb and then a sensation that reminded him of the feeling he had when he gained his name.
Ajax focused on that sensation and thought of it going to his palm, he felt it starting to move from the center of his body and moving up to his arm. The moment he felt it within his palm he thought of the orb Angil made, and to his surprise, when he opened his eyes, a bright shining orb had engulfed both his finger. His face lit up with a large childlike smile and he looked up at Angil, whom looked back with a smile.
Ajax released Angil’s hand, stepping back slightly, and he pointed the orb towards the center of Angil’s chest. He slowly traced the V and when finished the blue screen appeared. On it he saw Angil’s names, both first and the secondary name he had given to him. It was Angil’s level that made him do an instant spit take followed by Angil’s age.
“Your level one hundred and twenty!” Ajax exclaimed and took a step back, “I know you said before you’re over two thousand years but your age is just unbelievable.”
“Demons are one of the races that are blessed with longevity.” Angil replied.
“Your rank, demon lord, could you explain what that is?” Ajax asked.
“That is the second highest rank within our race, the final and most powerful rank is called demonic emperor.” Angil replied and yawned, “Very few demons even attain a rank like mine.”
“Could you tell me how they go?” he asked.
“Fine but I am going to sleep right after.” Angil replied, “In order of lowest to highest they go; lesser demon, greater demon, demon general, demonic duke, demonic arch-duke, demon lord and demonic emperor.”
“There are so many.” he said and trembled, realizing his current rank within the order, “Could I see your skills next?”
“No that is too much for you and enough for now.” Angil said, he picked up his jacket and T-shirt and left through an archway.
“There is just so much to learn about this world that it makes me nervous.” he said.
Ajax walked back to the pool he entered from and stared down at his reflection. He gave a soft smile to his new face and played with the reflection of his hair. He flung himself back and gasped.
“Wait, I can check my own skills.” Ajax said with a sudden realization.
Ajax held out his left hand and quickly formed the orb on his right index finger, without any problems this second time around. He recalled the letter that Angil drew when he checked his skills the first time and he traced an A over his wrist. When the screen appeared he noticed that his list grew by two additional points, he tapped on the two new additions and under them a row of text appeared.
“Mana manipulation, allows one to manipulate the mana within their body and rune trace, allows one to draw a rune using mana.” Ajax said, “Guess you can gain skills by practicing what they are supposed to do.”
Ajax chuckled and then he heard a rather loud growling echoing through the room. He looked from side to side, trying to find the source, but found that the room was empty, except for himself. He heard the growl again and soon realized that it was coming from his belly after he felt it rumbling. He laughed to himself and patted his chest.
“Sorry but I don’t know how to feed you until Angil wakes up.” Ajax said, he went over to a stone a couch and laid down, “let’s try to get some sleep.”
Ajax closed his eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep after shifting around for a few minutes to find a comfortable position. His first day in his new world passed along with his first stormy night which transitioned into a rainy twilight. The first to wake was Angil who came out to find Ajax sleeping on the couch.
“Stupid boy, why would you try and sleep on such a hard surface.” Angil said, he sighed and stepped over to the pool, “You are probably hungry by now, I can sense that it’s still raining so I guess its fish for breakfast.”
Angil dived into the pool and left the cave. Meanwhile, Ajax remained in his slumber, only waking when a sweet scent hit his nose. His stomach gave a loud growl and he jolted up to look around with drool falling from the side of his mouth. Next to the pool he saw Angil tending to a fire that had several skewered fishes circling around it. He got up off the couch and slowly creeped behind Angil and looked down at the golden brown fishes while wiping away his drool.
“You can stop drooling over me, sit down and come eat.” Angil said, he took up one of the skewers and pointed it to Ajax, “It is still raining so its fish for breakfast.”
“That’s okay, fish is good, I love fish!” Ajax excitedly said, taking the stick and eating the fish without question.
Angil laughed and took up his own fish and started eating while watching Ajax. When the one he was eating was finished, Ajax reached for another fish, only pausing when he remembered that he didn’t know how manners worked in this new world. He looked up Angil, who smiled at him and nodded his head. Ajax took that second skewer and went back to eating. Though not long after he stopped and moved the fish from his lips.
“Angil, you really think I can be on your level someday?” Ajax asked.
“What suddenly sparked this question?” Angil asked in response.
“Well… remembering what you did yesterday with the darkness thing and how you parted the waters, I just wonder.” Ajax replied, “I just wonder if I can get there someday to be that impressive.”
“If you work hard enough, you may surpass me.” he replied and took a bite of his fish, “You just need to train and apply yourself, I suppose I could teach you the basics until you can handle yourself.”
“Are you for real?!” Ajax exclaimed and dropped his fish, “I wouldn’t want to waste your time.”
“Just know I am going to give you chores during this training stay.” he said, “Just sleep in one of the bedrooms not the couch next time.”
“Yes I will do that next time, thank you for teaching me.” Ajax said with a face red from embarrassment.
“Combat training starts tonight, and if the rain lets, learn how to fly and sensing aura starts tomorrow.” Angil said and fed the rest of his fish to his tail and then got up, “The rest of the fish is your lunch and dinner, catching breakfast tomorrow is your job.”
Ajax nodded and Angil left the room, Ajax got up from the fire once he finished the second fish he took up and he went back over to the couch. He yawned and laid down but then got up and outed the fire with a gust of wind from his wings since he didn’t want the fish to burn. When he went back to the couch he fell asleep again not long after laying back down. Hours passed before he woke again, this time from being punched in the gut by Angil.
“I know being brought here probably trained a lot of energy and you need rest but there isn’t time to waste.” Angil said, “Combat training starts today, you’ll learn to throw fist like that, now on your feet.”
Ajax got up and so his training began with a beating being delivered from Angil over and over again. It got to the point where he got tired of feeling the sensation of the ground from being tossed. When their session was finished he was covered in minor bruises as well as being too exhausted to move. He felt as if he would pass out at any moment. He felt himself being lifted off the ground and prepared himself to be tossed again but this time he wasn’t thrown, rather, he was being carried by Angil.
“Good try today, block more next time and time your attacks better.” Angil said.
Angil carried him through the archway he left through before and Ajax found himself in a hallway that had several other archways. Angil took him through a second archway away from the one they entered through and he felt himself being placed on a soft surface. However, before he could look at what it was he fell asleep. Ajax’s second night quickly came and went, and when the sun rose from the darkness, Ajax didn’t rise with it. His dreams were filled with images of his previous training and his constant beating.
“Hey wake up, wake up will you!” Angil shouted, “You’re in charge of breakfast remember!”
“I don’t see why not.” Angil replied, he made the small light appear over his right index finger and prepared to draw the V.
“I want to try myself.” Ajax said and quickly held onto Angil’s wrist, stopping him, “I remember what you drew, so please let me do it.”
