"In second grade, we had a gaming championship, and you and I were the finalists. I won by a hair." John replied.

"Oh, I think I remember now. Wait, weren't you the one who peed your pants at the beginning of the finals because you were so nervous?"

"We don't talk about that."

The boys kept talking on, forgetting that Lucy was standing right there.

"Oh my gosh, you guys are so weird. No girl will ever want you!" Lucy sassed.

"Ignore her." John said. "She always says stuff like that."

They walk into the bus.

"I've never been on a bus before." Will says as he and John sit down.

"Never?!" John queries.

"Yeah. Never ever. I've always been homeschooled, and back when I was in Boston, I never really went anywhere." 

"Why?"

"I don't like to talk about it."

Meanwhile, Lucy sits with her friends at the back.

"Oh my gosh, did you guys see my post yesterday? It was SO cute!" Lucy squeals.

"Yassss! I like that dress. Did you see my TikTok?" One of Lucy's annoying friends ask."

The bus rides to school, but when Will gets out, to him, the school is humongous. He'd never seen a place bigger than his backyard. He'd been seeing a lot of big things since he'd moved to California. Like the Golden Gate Bridge and stuff like that. 

"Wow. This school is really big." Will, astonished, says to John.

"Wait 'till you see the inside." John replies with a smile.

They walk inside, and Will gets kind of overwhelmed, because there are so many people, so he took a sip of his water. The morning goes by pretty fast, and before you could say "Blackburn", it was lunch time. But Will couldn't find John anywhere. He felt like he'd looked everywhere, but there was no John. So he just sat at a table himself. Somebody was walking by to get a napkin, but Will's leg was out, and Will tripped him by accident.

"Oops! I'm so sorry! I—

"Dude! Watch where you put your legs!"

"I'm so so sorry!"

"Do you want to kill me?"

"No, I said I'm sorry!"

"You and me. After School. On the blacktop."

By now, everyone in the cafeteria was watching them. The guy walked away and he wasn't really happy, although Will thought he saw a faint evil smile.
