I don't remember how old I was, or what happened to my mother. Only my Father crying for days on end, while I was clueless as to why.
Father says that Mother was Pharoa Cearra's friend in their youth and that she, along with her family, attended my mom's funeral.
That's when I met the royal children for the first time apparently, although I have no memory of meeting them in my adolescence.
My Father made it known to me that it had been years since we all have seen each other, 17 to be exact. Maybe that's why I have no memory of it happening whatsoever.
The royal children must not remember either, if they did, wouldn't they bring up such an event?
Or perhaps they choose not to remember, I know I do, only recalling it when I want to feel something, anything...even if it's grief and heartbreak.
"Miss Korah?" I'm snapped back from my little daydream, Prince Ezrah gently tapping my shoulder. "Are you alright? Do you need a moment?"
"Fine, I'm fine. Wha- I'm sorry, I had a moment, please continue!" I put on a smile, something I'm used to, and pretended to be enveloped into the discussion. I wasn't, but I cannot just walk away, this is the Prince, soon to be Pharo...along with the most influential associates Osmos has.
Play bluff, play pretend Korah.
I treated the conversing for a while longer before Myira rescued me. How she knew I needed it, I couldn't tell you.
"My brother is awfully vexatious, simply more of a pain when those two are around. What imbeciles, not even able to tell when a woman is uninterested! Brother will never take a wife, he's dull when it comes to women, ironic isn't it?"
"Why yes. Should he be already betrothed to someone?"
"No! That's a custom that Lillians came up with! Osmosans don't practice that at all! Who told you such a fiction?"
"A friend of mine...she stated all royals practiced such a thing-"
"No! Oh my!" Myira couldn't accept it, her hand was held to her chest, her face...I couldn't explain it"
"Well, my Princess, are you perhaps...involved with someone?" I asked, a cunning smile coming to my lips while Myira flushed.
"If you must know Lady Korah! Yes...I am. An entanglement of sorts, he's lovely...we're taking our time, much more time than I'd like but what am I to do?" She sighs, a small grin as we walk through the large palace.
"How lovely, take your time, it is good to not rush into things."
"Of course Miss...I often forget that you are older than me Miss Korah! I should be bowing to you!"
"I've never been the sort! Please do refrain from doing so. Besides, you are my Princess!" We laugh together. It's hard to remember that Myira is only in her 20th year, she's so mature and beautiful, she looks to be much older.
"21st year? I am not mistaken, am I, Miss Korah?"
"No my Princess, You are not!"
"Alas! Princess Myira has an announcement! Everyone! Everyone! Listen here!" She calls up, dragging me along with her to the balcony so everyone can see us.
"Korah Cermanns, daughter of Sir Harrison, is now not only my best friend but a friend to the crown Princess! Please refer to her as Lady Korah!"
"Friend to the Prince, soon to be Pharo!" someone shouts, Myira rolls her eyes, pointing out the voice right away.
"Giving high ranks brother? She'll rank over her father if you do such a thing"
"Sir Harrison shan't mind! As he said, Lady Korah has taken care of herself for many moons now" The Prince raises his glass to his lips, taking gentle sip after sip.
"Ah yes! Lady Korah, friend to the crowned children, member of the Royal Court! Cheers to her, shall we?" Myira raises a glass, a barmaid handing one to me.
"Cheers!" I felt my face getting hot, how did this even happen? I look and see the Prince inclining his head to me, I do the same and he just smiles.
