The woods were dark, and cold, and there was a lot more woods between where Ryu was and where Google Maps was telling him his destination was. He shivered, zipping his jacket up and shoving his hands into his pockets as a gust of wind blew at his face.
"I feel like I'm in an 80s horror movie," he huffed. "So many people went hiking in the 80s, you think they'd know about the axe murderer they were seeing on the news." He jumped as a squirrel ran past his feet, backing into a tree.
Ryu blew a raspberry, dragging his hand out of his packet and pressing it against his chest in an attempt to still his beating heart.
Maybe this was a bad idea…
He looked over his shoulder, he couldn't see the car anymore, just trees and darkness.
He groaned and continued up the hill.
"Just a half mile and I'll be there."
--Leo bounced his legs staring out the car window at the woods Ryu had disappeared into.
He's not gonna die. He'll be fine! That kid's tenacious as a tick, if there's anyone who could survive Jason Voorhees it would be him!
He scratched his beard, chewed his lip, fiddled with buttons in his car, nothing could distract him from the want to follow after Ryu.
It violated every instinct he had, he could hear his ancestors telling him he was an idiot. He could hear them calling him a stupid dumb bitch.
"I refuse to be a white bitch from a horror movie," he stated, voice shaking with his anxiety.
He sucked in a breath, casting a glance at the moon.
It was new. Of course it was new! Of course it was a new moon! No moonlight! No stars because they live in the city! No traffic lights because their in the middle of fucking nowhere!
"I could drive away…" Leo scratched his head. "I could drive away, and act like I don't even know who Ryuki Nakamura is. I could just...go home."
He smashed his head into the steering wheel, a deafening honk echoing through the surrounding trees.
"My conscience would never forgive me for that…"
He sighed, opening the door, grabbing his coat from the passenger seat, and starting into the woods.
--Ryu was almost there, but he couldn't jake the skeevy feeling of being watched. He'd seen a billion horror movies and played a billion more horror games but he's never actually...Done anything like this. At least not anything this scary, the odd farm house or demonic corn maze, when he was growing up he used to pretend to be one of the detectives looking for the werewolf rumoured to live in the woods around his house, but this was different.
He was a whole ass adult. With a life and a family, he just got to the 'regular' status at the nearby coffee shops; he can't die yet!
He almost turned around, almost trudged back down to Leo's car, when he felt a twinge down his spine.
Crunch.
Crunch.
Crunch.
The leaves behind him made a violent, jarring, crackling sound as they broke under the weight of a foot.
Ryu sucked in a sharp gasp.
Spine going pin straight.
The footsteps stopped right behind him.
He felt a hot, heavy, exhale on the back of his neck.
"Boo."
"ビッチ(Bitch)!" Ryuki screamed, spinning around and kicking whoever or whatever it was in the face.
"Son of a-- Ryu! It's just me!" Leo cursed, holding his jaw.
Ryu clasped his hands over his mouth.
"Leonardo? I thought you were in the car! You asshole, that was entirely your fault!"
"My fault? How was that my fault?!"
"You sneaked up on me! You scared me!"
"...okay you might have a point…"
Ryu sighed, crossing his arms like a child. He pouted, staring at the ground.
"Are you gonna come?"
"Are you gonna kick me again?" Leo spat, still holding his sore jaw.
"I declare a truce. Till dawn."
"Okay, now lead the way. But I haven't been working out as strictly so if this is the getting naked kind of cult shit you can count me out."
Then again, you do need my camera and filming this kid or anyone his age is probably child...Topography.
Ryu snorted.
"I'm not in a cult! My mom was in a coven though…" Leo blunk, staring blankly at the kid's back as they walked up the last bit of hill before it plateaued.
"That's…comforting."
"But you never exactly told me what we're doing. In the middle of the woods. With a video camera. At 3am."
"You're a smart guy, right Leo? I'm pretty sure you can figure it out." The spikes of an old rusty fence came into view and Ryu smiled sprinting over to it.
Leo jogged after him, coming up to the fence with a look of confusion. His eyes landed on an old brick mailbox with a rusty plaque that read "Wilde Preparatory School for Boys". His face fell.
"Ryuki Nakamura-Perez I know you did not just bring me to the place I think you brought me to. Do not tell me you just brought me to the place I think you just brought me to!"
Ryu smiled shyly, pulling bolt cutters out of his rucksack.
"Okay then, I won't."
