I heard a tapping coming from afar, downstairs somewhere down there I could hear light footsteps creeping along the first floor. Mind full of doubt, I rose out of bed, opened the bedroom door quietly walking down the short corridor reaching the top of the staircase. The bottom was too dark to see, and the sounds seemed to have stopped, although for some reason I thought it was best to go down and check. I attempted to be as silent as I could going down.
The darkness blinding and the nighttime silence deafening as my mind became clouded with thoughts of worry whilst my heart sickened with dread due to the thought of what could reside down the stairs below. I arrived near the bottom feeling lifeless as I saw three figures cloaked in the darkness that consumed the light below. One stood on the left and another on the right of the stairs while the third stood at the front blocking the entrance or exit to the staircase.
I made no noise when I saw them but that did not change the fact that they knew I was there. They were looking up in my direction, faceless shadows that once had a blank expression until they each revealed a wide creepy smile with teeth sharp and yellowed in appearance. I quickly ran back into my room shutting and locking the door instantly picking up my phone to call the police. None of the calls would go through. I gave a final attempt only to hear a voice over the phone saying “We see you..” before hearing three knocks at the door. I opened the bedroom window, then as quietly as I could, hid under the bed.
The door in some mysterious way opened even though there was no way besides breaking in. The three figures came in looking for me. I guess they saw the window was open since one of them went over to it. The whole time they kept that freaky smile until they were about to leave. At that moment, the smiles left their faces as they left the room. I heard the front door shut but I stayed under my bed until the sun came up. I never had another encounter with whoever or whatever they were, but after a few months I decided to move to a new house to ensure it wouldn't.
