Emma walked into Zuri’s office as she hummed her favourite song. Zuri sung a quick thank you after she took the file from her. When she noticed that Emma was still standing there, she looked up to very suspicious look on her assistant’s face.
“What?” Zuri asked as nonchalantly as possible.
“You’re humming,” she stated what a smile on her face.
Shit, “Was I? I hadn’t noticed,” she shrugged hoping she came across as nonchalant.
“There’s something going on here,” Emma waved her hands back and forth towards Zuri.
“No, nothing,” Zuri shook her head back and forth, “Just happy, I just got off the phone with Romi a while ago.”
“Yea but you’re usually happy sad when you finish talking to him. And you miss him that I get but this, this is something more.” She insisted
Zuri laughed, “I, umm, nothing going on –,”
“Oh my God, you met someone didn’t you?” Emma cut her off.
Zuri laughed nervously, shit. “I, no not… I mean I didn’t.”
“Yea, yea you did,” Emma pointed a finger at her and walked towards her, “and I know because you suck at lying.”
She was right I did suck at lying. My parents always knew when I was lying because my words always came out jumbled.
“Who is he?” Emma pressed.
“I, ugh. It’s not a big deal, he’s just … someone I met a few weeks ago and in passing but yesterday he found me, and we spoke,” a smile slowly formed on her face as she remembered the night before.
Emma hurried around her desk and hugged her.
“Umm why are we hugging?” Zuri asked skeptically.
“Because you finally let someone in, I’m so happy for you.”
She didn’t know what to say it was true she always kept men at a distance, she placed her son first and didn’t want to bring random men into his life who wouldn’t stick around. But Eros was thrown into her life and he just fitted like a missing piece of puzzle. It didn’t matter that he was from a completely different world or that he was a demon for that matter. She knew what people would think, demons were monster, the worse kind of evil in the world. She couldn’t explain it, but he felt right, and her soul called to him. But she doubted anyone would understand that. They would think she either went mad or he bewitched her, and she would lose him either way, she couldn’t live with that.
“Thanks, I guess,” was the only think she could think to say.
Emma let go and walked back but instead of leaving she pulled one of the chairs over, “So tell me about him,” she looked at Zuri expectantly with a huge grin on her face.
Aw hell, ok I’ll just stay as close to the truth as possible, Zuri thought. “Well, he’s umm, he’s in the military and a bit scary at first but then you talk to him and you’re enthralled.”
Her body heated as she thought of the first time seeing him and talking to him in the tunnel, even though she was scared it had been about the situation and not of him. She felt a connection with him the moment they met.
Now, all she wanted to do was think of ways to seduce him. Granted he said he would need hours but hell she wanted him bad enough to take him for hours and give him the satisfaction he needed because she was sure she would get hers. More so it was deeper than just physical there was something there that neither of them could explain. It went deeper than being us a want or a need, hell even a craving.
She shifted and squeezed her legs together, hoping that Emma didn’t notice, “We ran into each other near my building and we just hung out and talked all night.”
“Ahhh! I’m so happy for you,” Emma said as she tapped her feet up and down while she sat, “I can’t wait to meet him but knowing you that won’t happen anytime, so I’ll wait until you’re ready.
“Thank you, I appreciate that,” she responded, another element she would have to deal with sooner and unfortunately later.
Emma walked out leaving her with her own thoughts, she hoped she would see him again tonight. Although, she was exhausted when she woke up this morning she woke with a smile on her face. She knew he wouldn’t be there in the morning, but she came up with a plan that hopefully one day he wouldn’t need to leave.
She decided to take the rest of the day off, luckily, she was in a position where she could do just that and not have to answer to anyone for it. After letting Emma know and clearing her schedule for the rest of the day, she headed to Lowe’s on Second Avenue in Brooklyn. If anywhere had what she need it would be there.
“Hi, can I help you find something?” a voice behind her called.
She spun around to meet the voice, “Oh hi, umm yes,” she responded to the Lowe’s worker, “I’m looking for widow tints and blackout curtains?”
The worker smiled at her, “Sure, I can help you with that. Is for a particular room or?”
“My entire apartment, I umm work nights, so I wanted to keep it dark as possible.”
“Well follow me; we have some options you can look at in aisle fourteen.” He turned and waiting for her to follow him. She smiled slightly and nodded before following him.
“Just so you know the blackout curtains would work just fine in keeping the light out of your room. There’s no need for both, to be honest,” he informed her with a smile.
“I know,” she said with a smile, “I just would prefer them, privacy and all.”
“I understand,” he said as he continued with her.
She bit her bottom lip and hoped it would let him know that he didn’t have to rush off; she didn’t know if the sunlight had any adverse effects on him but also it would keep anyone from seeing him. She knew how people would react hell she had react in the same way. But now that she knew him and while she still didn’t understand the strange and instant connection they had; she know that she would do her best to keep his existence a secret.
Mitch the Lowe’s worker helped her find and pick out the best options for her space. “We have the option to have this professional installed if you would like. We can even get it done today in a few hours.”
“Really? Yes, that would be great.”
He gave her the quote for the installation and she quickly paid it and set the installation to arrive within the next hour. That would give her more than enough time to be ready when he came tonight, it wasn’t if but when she had no doubts that he would be there.
She thanked Mitch and hurried home.
The installation took over three hours, but she didn’t mind they took their time and were clean and precise in their work and what they were delivering. After they left and she tested them out, they worked beautifully alone the privacy tint film kept the space dark but once she pulled the blackout curtains, it threw the space into pitch black.
Great, she thought with a smile she pulled the curtains back open. She looked at the time and decided to facetime with Romi for a bit before taking a shower. The call with Romi last about an hour as he told her about his day and showed her the new game his father brought him. After ending the call, she took a shower, quickly threw on one of her oversized t-shirts and a pair of panties before going to the kitchen to cook dinner before settling into binge Chilling adventures of Sabrina. She would change before nightfall before he showed up. The new season was out, and she was excited to see where this season took them and especially if Ambrose and Prudence would finally get that douchebag Blackwood.
She dropped the vegetables and jogged over to the couch picking up her phone after it rung. “Hey, Ari what’s up?” recognizing the assigned ringtone.
“Hey gurl, nothing much seeing what you up too.”
“Nothing much, just going to make something to eat really quick and binge Sabrina,” she explained as she walked back to the kitchen. She placed it on speaker, dropped it on the kitchen island, and resumed what she was doing. She rinsed off her cutting board and knife then began cutting her vegetables.
“Oh yeah I forgot you and your witchy obsessions. I don’t know how you watch all that devil stuff.”
She stopped, cocking her head and mean mugged the phone as if her friend could see her face.
“Don’t look at me like that Zu.”
She chuckled, “Ok, first of all it’s not devil stuff as you call it. Witchcraft has nothing to do with the devil and anyone who did just a bit of reading,” she cleared her throat and continued, “would know that. They made the show and comic like that for dramatic effect and please don’t insult my religion like that thank you very much.”
She went back to cutting, she knew that Ari had strong beliefs even though she drank, partied, and had more sex than should be humanly possible but she for some reason couldn’t accept Zuri’s choice to become a pagan.
“Whatever all I know is those religions were killed off for a reason and -”
Zuri rolled her eyes and leaned into the phone, “they were killed off is right… by Catholics who still took everything Pagan and Wiccan and made it into their own damn religion. Still have no idea when so called Jesus was born so and they murdered anyone who didn’t follow their faith, so which one is worse?”
Ari sighed, “I didn’t call to argue with you Zu.”
“Then you should know better than to bring up that topic with me. Look I get it Ari you’re not fond of my religious choice but I’m still the same person I was since the day we met.”
“You’re right. I just, Zu I just don’t want anything to happen to you. There’s some crazy things out there and I don’t want you inviting them in because of what you practice.”
“Inviting what in? Light, love and sunshine?”
“Damn hippie,” Ari busted out laughing.
She could see her shaking her head. She wondered what Ari would think if she told her about Eros. Probably nothing good and she didn’t want to go down that road even though they rarely kept things from one another this would have to be one of the rare ones.
“Ok so I really called to see if you’re going to be free say next Friday?”
“Yes, sure I think so why?”
“Not important, I’ll let you know next week that way you can’t back out.”
She groaned, “I hate when you do that. Just don’t make it some weird awkward thing because I swear to the gods, I will leave your ass right there wherever it is you’re trying to drag me.”
“No, nope nothing weird. See ya beautiful,” Ari hung up.
“Hate when she does that,” she grumbled to herself.
“Hate when she does what?” Eros deep voice asked behind her.
