“Shit,” she spun around with the knife tightly gripped in her hand and her eyes wide.
“Did I scare you?” he asked even though he already knew the answer.
She chuckled and touched her chest, his eyes instantly dropped as he watched her chest rise and fall. He clenched his fist to keep from reaching out, pulling her to him and taking her lips. She turned looking out the window. “I didn’t realize it was dark already.”
He grunted his acknowledgement, “You ignored both my questions,” he said as he pinned her with his glaze.
His eyes drifted down then back up her body and he visibly saw her shiver from his slow gaze. T-shirt she wore just barely covered her panties. He wanted to tear them off.
“I umm…”
“Bir tanem.”
“What? Oh, umm sorry. Can you not look at me like that it’s… distracting?” She shook her head as if trying to clear the effect he had on her. The same one she did not fully realize she had on him.
“I cannot help with it.” He shrugged with a smirk.
“I’ll go change,” she said as she put the knife.
“No, you won’t,” he said matter-of-factly.
Her eyes narrowed as she glared at him, which caused him to chuckle, she had no idea how adorable she was when she did that.
She made no attempts to go changed though, simply going back to what she was doing.
“If you must know, I hate when my friend Ari made plans and doesn’t tell me about them until the day off. It’s how I ended up face down in a room surrounded by demon and that she demon bitch,” she stated matter of factly.
He couldn’t resist anymore and pulled her to him, she sighed when he tightly wrapped his arms around her waist. He admired the fire she had.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, “and yes, I was scared, not of you but I didn’t hear you come in. Didn’t realize it had gotten dark already,” she whispered.
“Hmm,” was his response as he lowered his face to her neck and deeply took in her, he growled as her scent tested every restraint he had. Even more so, when she shuddered in his arms, he felt it ripple through her entire body and heard the soft moan that escaped her lips.
“How do you get in here anyway, you’re not by any means small to squeeze through anywhere.”
“Shifted,” he smirked
“Ok you’ll have to explain that one,” she said with a raised eyebrow.
“My kind can…,” he reached for the right word, “materialize in and out of space as we want.”
“So, you can like go into anyplace like say a bank vault,” this time it was she who wore the smirk.
He squeezed her waist and pressed her into him, which pulled another moan from her, “Yes but we don’t need too.” He did not want to explain more than that for the time being. In truth, the demon world was very much involved in human affairs from politics to finance. It was how they were able to build their own world and continue too. Their investment in companies around the world fund their government and vast military training and research. Eros would be considered a multi-billionaire in her world.
“Wait can someone just shift into my apartment?” her eyes were wide and filled with fear as she asked.
He stroked the side of her face and smiled to comfort her. She didn’t fully understand how much she meant to him. Her son was her heart and her world, but she was his heart, had become his world and was the soul he didn’t have. She leaned into him sighing from his touch, “No, I sealed it only I can come and go.”
She squinted her eyes and twisted her lips, “I don’t remember you asking me if you could come and go as you please.”
He took her chin in between in fingers lifting her chin, her big bright eyes met his dark pool of purple, “Bir tanem, you do not seem to understand how much of mine you are.”
He released her and leaned back against the counter, “this friend is the one in the picture on your mantle?”
“Hm?” she cleared her throat, and he did not miss the way she squeezed her tights together, “Oh yea that’s Ari, why?”
He wore a smirk, but he needed to focus on her friend, she was too familiar. And his senses told him she was dangerous and had dangerous secrets, “How long have you been friends?”
She stared at him, “Why do you ask?”
“I am curious,” he shrugged he didn’t want to taint the image of her friend but if she had rose on her hand. It meant she was the same person that not only ambushed his convoy but tried to kill him then he would find a way to end her and keep his woman.
She nodded and turned back to rinsing her food, he had no idea what it was. He made a mental note to ask her what it was and if it was a favourite of her if, it was he would ask Jasper to acquire it for him to keep in his own home.
“Why are you curious about her?” she asked over her shoulder.
He walked up to her and turned her around, “Bir tanem, you are the one I want not your friend. I want to know everyone in your life, and she seems to be an important part.”
“Sorry, it’s just that. Nothing forget it,” she cleared her throat and began to tell him about Ari. His lips tightened but he wanted to learn about her friend first then he would go back to this nothing.
“Does she do the same work you do?”
Something about what she said piqued his curiosity even further, something about this Ari did not feel right to him and his intuition was never wrong. However, he did not want to focus on any other woman but the one in front of him. He had found something in the library archives that could bring them closer, and he hoped that she would be open to it.
“No, she used to work for a law firm, but she left it and started working with her family. They run some kind of bails-bond service or something.”
He nodded, “They catch criminals?”
“Yes, oh,” she jumped a bit as if just remembering something, “I asked her once about it. Because she had some bruises on her hands and face,” she waved her hand cover her face and arms, “and she said, it was nothing, but I got the feeling it was more you know? But then she said there were real monsters out there and that someone had to keep the world safe. Said something about she thought she shot a big bounty, but he got away.
“Does she have any tattoos?”
She pushed the plate away from her and looked at him, “yea she does.” She looked at him waiting for his next question, he could tell she wanted to ask questions but wanted to see where he was going with his questions.
The memory played in his head. He saw the gun pointing at one of his men as he knocked one of the hunters to the ground and fired his own gun. He ran toward firing at the person pointing the gun, he knew his shots hit center mass as they stumbled back, they however brought their gun up towards them and pulled the trigger hitting him in the abdomen. The force of the hot sent him flying back and to the ground but he saw it before he fell. The same blurry red tattoo on the wrist of Zuri’s friend in the picture that somehow triggered danger to him.
“Tell me about them,” he tried to keep the growl out of his voice.
He could tell she was uncomfortable the way she shifted in her seat; she also avoided making eye contact with him as much as he hated it, he needed to know. He wondered if she was sent, maybe even used as bait to learn of their location to destroy them.
“She has a few,” she said pulling him from his thoughts, “an eagle on her back, some catholic symbol on her upper arm and shoulders, betty bop on her lower stomach, another one that I won’t talk about, well two no wait three that I won’t talk about and a rose on her wrist.”
His eyes instantly changed to red as he glared at her. She jumped out of her chair and backed away from him, he fought to control his emotions, as his first instinct was to grab her and demand that she told her where her friend lived.
“Er... Eros?” she called cautiously.
He slowly stood and moved around the counter, his glaze never leaving her in his state he could smell the fear radiating from her body. He had to test her, had to touch her to see if she was who she said she was. He stalked her as she kept backing up still calling his Eros, his anger decreased as he saw the tear roll down her face the one, she quickly wiped away.
He also felt her anger he could feel directed more at herself than himself, his guess it was directed to the tears she could not control. As strong and brave she tried to be, he knew the fear he could invoke in humans although he did not want to invoke them in her. He did not to be sure deep inside he knew the answer, knew that she had nothing to do with the attack and that what they had with each other was real and pre-destined but shit.
Sighing, he knew his heart was right, hellfire every part of his body and black soul knew what they were. She was still backing up not seeing the change in his eyes. She fell back onto the couch he followed controlling his self-down on top of her, she yelped as he grabbed her legs and pulled her into him. Again, he relished on how easy he could pull the moans from her lips and her body’s instant response to him as if it knew exactly whom it belonged too.
Demons in hell, he wanted to kiss her, to know what she tasted like and even more to hear he go hoarse from screaming his name.
“Eros?” he could still hear the hesitation in her voice as looked at him through heavy lust filled eyelids.
“I would end my life first before I hurt you, you know this,” even though it wasn’t a question he wanted no doubt in her mind.
She nodded firmly and gave him a small smile.
“Can you tell me what happened back there?” she questioned cautiously.
He shook his head, “Bad memory. That is all, bir tanem.”
“Ok.”
Even though he knew she wanted to ask more, she didn’t and that made him trust her even more. She was patient enough to wait till he was ready. He liked that she didn’t push.
