I lay flat on my back, huffing and puffing from the harsh training Master gave me. If I didn't know any better, I would've believed this was going to be my 43rd death. A shadow cast over me, making my look up.
"I have brought you some water." Master says, smiling at me with his overly handsome face. As I struggled to sit up, he handed me the glass. Taking one big gulp, I down the water. I watched Master as he elegantly takes back the now empty glass and makes it vanish. I had asked once where he got the water from, because more often than not, the glass of water just appears in his hand. "It's from a fresh spring in the hills." His smile when he told me was so over the top and blinding that I never asked again and simply drank the water. I am curious where the 'hills' are, but his smile persuaded me more than my curiosity. I know, though, that he would never ever hurt me or give me something bad. The glass, however, was from his "void". The "void" as it sounds, is an empty dark space that if you can access it, you can store things in. All kinds of things! One can even store a castle in it, past experience tells me that. You can even transport yourself or a group of people to a different location... if you're pro enough. Master is a S level magician and fighter, so he can open a void pretty effortlessly. I still can't open a void, even after literal years of trying. I know I'm totally boasting, but Master is simply amazing since not everyone can use a void... or even open one.
I give him a big toothy grin, proud of his accomplishments. He, in return, gives me a worried look and pats my head in concern. Our wavelengths were obviously not connecting. Well, no bother though. I liked being patted on the head by him. I sat on the ground for a bit longer, not wanting to move. I feared that my body would protest greatly. Master continued to caress my head, almost like he was lovingly patting his pet with a content look on his face. We both stayed in a dazed like moment, resting and enjoying time together.
“Hey Master!” a voice yelled. Master quickly hoisted me up and stood in front of me, turning to the one yelling. I peak from behind his legs and spot the Vice-Captain of our knights, waving his hand wildly, total excitement on his face. He reached Master and slapped him on his shoulder. “It's good to see you!”
“Like wise, Vice-Captain Blood.” Master replies, dusting off his shoulder and then gives a small bow. Blood, scratches his scarred cheek, feeling awkward from Master's politeness. Master is a very formal guy, even with me! From time to time he will be somewhat lax about it. I'm used to it though and it doesn't bother me.
“Ahem,” Blood coughs, trying to get away from the uncomfortable atmosphere. This Vice-Captain of ours was a sturdy, lean man with long brown hair that was tightly tied in a low pony tail. His dark green eyes spotted me as Master slightly side stepped away to reveal me.
“I am sorry. Today I am training with My Lady.” He informed Blood. I give a little wave and smile.
“Oh young miss!” Blood bows dutifully to me. “I apologize about my rudeness for I did not see you there.”
“It's fine. But I bid you good evening sir.” I follow Master's actions and tone of voice.
“Good evening, Young Miss.” We all stand there in an unsure silence waiting for someone to talk.
“We must be on ou-”
“Would you both like to train with us today?” Blood cuts Master off before he could say our goodbyes. I am already shaking my head. I just went through some hellish training earlier; I didn't want to do anymore. Master, on the other hand, is seeming to ponder it. I slowly look up at him in wide eyed astonishment. He wouldn't dare...!
“I believe that is a good idea, Vice-Captain Blood. Thank you for such an offer.” Master than starts to walk towards the Knights training ground, decidedly ignoring me. I was stunned, mouth agape, standing there watching him go. How could he do this to me? The vile man!
“Ahem,” I sharply turn to Blood, clear displeasure on my face. “After you, Young Miss.” Because of this fellow here...! Because of him, I was going to endure more nightmare inducing training. I bite back the remark I wanted to make and follow after Master, shoulders slightly slumped in defeat.
I slowly climb into my bed, body score from today's events. Thankfully there was no 'family time' after dinner because Grandfather was coming tomorrow. I groan as I bring my blankets up to my chin and send a silent glare over to Master, now in my stuffed horse again.
"You asked me to use the training grounds." He whispered to me. I looked away from him, unable to argue.
Today was a bunch of laps around the field and learning how to swing a sword... a ka-gillion times. Not only did I have to do Masters personal one on one training (climbing, jumping, and dashing through the woods), I had to nearly have my arms fall off and my legs collapse. Darn him! I think, trying to fall asleep. I know he wants to quickly get me back to where I was, but this child body of mine was still stiff and small. It was still going to take some time. I sigh and put the training out of my mind and let myself drift off to dreamland.
The next morning, my body was not the least bit happy and it took all my fighting spirit to get up and ready for the day. Today was a peach-colored dress with a petticoat and black stockings. I left my hair down after brushing it. I realized after opening my door that I forgot the candle at the stairs. I conjure another cute bouncy ball of light and turn Master, still in my stuff horse, around so that we're are face to face. I ask him to remind me to get the candle. As I say this, I snatch the matches off the small table and make my way to eat breakfast.
“Mallory,” My father corners me at the door after we all finish. “Your Grandfather is going to be here today.” He was giving me a stern, but worried look. I can understand this warning. When I come back and do my reruns, it can be at different ages. After my 15th death, I came back at the age of six and a half. Then, when Grandfather came to visit, I lost it and attacked him... surprising everyone pretty badly. I jumped slash ran at him, biting and clawing. It wasn't a pretty site to say the least. They had to struggle hard to get me off of him and then keep me away from him. My brothers haven't forgiven me since, because this reaction of mine... hasn't been corrected. I have yet to be sent back again to the age six or younger. This time too, I'm eight, and they still remember the attack. If I could only go back! If I could, I wouldn't attack Grandfather and be able to get away from all the trouble it's bringing me.
“Yes, Father, I understand.” I resist the urge to sigh. He caresses his beard and gives me a slow nod. “I'll be on my way then.” I wave and leave him for the library. Grandfather being here meant no teachers or training today. Might as well spend most of it gathering information. Plus, the better for all if I stayed away until he came. I would've gotten endless warnings from all. I spent about two hours in the library when I heard the announcement of Grandfathers arrival. I left everything on the table, but grabbed Master and made my way to the grand hall to greet him. If I didn't do this, I would be scolded.
When I arrived, my parents were standing there, my mother is a slim red dress, her hair fanning down behind her and my father in his gray vest and pants. His gray hair combed to the side. My four brothers were standing in front of them. I stood a little away from my mother, telling myself to not act stupid. Everyone eagerly awaited for him when the doors burst open. There stood my Grandfather, retired Duke James Aderyn. He had a curly mustache, snow white combed back hair, and light gray eyes. He was a tall man, about six foot and four inches with a big warrior build. He was wearing his military uniform adorning his metals and badges that he got with all his honors of being a general of the Emperors army. He was a very well liked, very accomplished man.
“My family!” He laughed jollily and marched up to his grandsons. With his large wide arms, he practically scooped them up in a hug. He pecked his daughter on the cheek, gave his son-in-law a sturdy handshake and turned around looking for something. His eyes finally landed on me and he quite happily started towards me.
“I humbly greet the great General.” I lifted my dress skirt and curtsied. I heard an stunned gasp from my mother and I secretly smiled. I was pretty good at this wasn't I? Grandfather stopped in front of me a bit put off about how I said my hellos. He coughed into his hand and the patted my head, rather gruffly with his other hand.
“Hello my granddaughter. Have you been well?” He was the only one who wasn't apprehensive about how I might act. As expected of him... I think, silently clicking my tongue, annoyed.
“Of course Grandfather.” I keep my head low, trying to appear sincere. Truth be told though; it was taking a lot of my self-control not to blast him away with magic and into Masters void. This man... this “wonderfully well liked” man was the reason for my 15th death. I was burned alive and for heck sure I held a grudge....
