I was there... walking around the hallways, trying to get to my biology class. But that's when i heard Kami's sweet angelic innocent voice:
Kami: Hey Sanroku chan!
She was behind me. I stopped walking and turned back, while she was catching up
Sanroku: Hm?
Kami: What results did you get for the social studies quiz?
Sanroku: 100%. Why?
Kami: Wow! Excellent! Sanroku chan, your work is amazing! Keep it up and you'll get accepted into TONS of universities! hehe ^ ^
Sanroku: Hai.*. (Hai means yes in japanese)
Kami: What are you doing this weekend?
Sanroku: ... Just skateboarding and studying alone.
Kami: I see. Do you mind if Ichiban and I come in?
For a moment, i felt intense flashbacks. I didn't want to tell her... and hurt her feelings. But she was the ignorant little sheep in the middle of our troop. Me and Ichiban were friends... but not anymore. I guess he wasn't the type of person he turned out to be. I shouldn't be so surprised, since that happened to me a lot in my life. I guess i just didn't know what to expect... i didn't know how to tell her. I wanted to do so, but i couldn't help but to think of this as my only answer:
Ichiban is dead to my eyes.
Instead, i tried to ignore it and change the subject, without her even knowing.
Sanroku: Nah. I'm pretty sure he's better off with soccer, karate or one of a kind. He's even told me he got a tournament. And plus, isn't it your mother's birthday soon?
Kami: Oh right! I am still working on my dulce de leche cheesecake! It's gonna be amazing! Right , Sanroku-san?
Sanroku: Of course it is! * i affirmed, patting her on the head.
Sanroku: Anyways, gotta go. I have my biology class in a few minutes so...
Kami: Kk! Bai! Cyu later, Sanroku-chan!
She waved to me and i waved back, while i was directing myself towards my next class
SCENE 2
I was about to turn to a corner, when i bumped into a student. She fell down and all her papers dropped. Full of embarressment, she anxiously stuttered:
The student: Oh s-sorry! I didn't mean to-
Sanroku: It's alright. I should've looked where i was going too. Don't blame it all on yourself.
In less than a minute, she started blushing , and turned into a red tomato. She then lowered her head immediately and started picking up her papers, from the ground. I felt very bad and guilty, so i tried to help her too.
When we both finished, i gave her the rest of her papers, which i've picked up, and she assembled all of them into a trapper-keeper, which she put into a leather messenger bag. I then said:
Sanroku: Nice bag you've got there. Leather... right?
The student: Y-yea.
There was a moment of silence. To break the ice, she then said:
The student: You're headed to biology class right?
Sanroku: Hai.
The student: May i ask which one?
Sanroku: Room 102. Advanced "Child Prodigy" class. Lead by Mr. Bakuhatsu.
The student: Oh! Well what a coincidence! I was going to that class too!
Sanroku: Then why are you going the opposite way?
The student: Oh. Well... simply because i forgot my notebook in my locker.
Sanroku: Oh. Makes sense...
The student: Well, see you in class...friend! ^ ^
Sanroku: Sure. Cyu in class.
I started marching towards biology class again, while she marched to the opposite, aiming for her locker.
SCENE 3
Mr. Bakuhatsu: Hello class. My name is Rika Bakuhatsu, which if you translate each word separately, means science explosion.
Random kid in the class crowd: So does that mean that we're gonna make explosions?! , a kid in our class said, with enthusiast.
Mr. Bakuhatsu: Of course we are!
Random kid in the class crowd (Same kid): Yaaaaaay!
Mr. Bakuhatsu: But not as a class..
Random kid in the class crowd (Same kid): Booooh!
Mr. Bakuhatsu: But that's the point! The purpose of science is to make mistakes and come back even stronger! Having learned from your mistakes is also a good way to remember and avoid these mistakes later on! Plus, your whole LIFE was made out of errors and trials!
Hmm... this guy seems better than i thought...guess i underestimated him. He seems to know what he's talking about, and seems to be the type of guy to talk facts and clear judgement. He's trustworthy, that's for sure...
Mr. Bakuhatsu: After all that being said, i'm sure you guys would die of knowing what our first work of the year together is gonna be.
Mr. Bakuhatsu: As our first project, we'll represent each one of us, as an element of the periodic table. You can choose your element , based on the similarities of your qualities, physical characteristics and last but not least, personalities, hobbies and skills you're good at.
Random people in the crowd talking:
- I'll be gold, cause my hair is golden blond!
- I'll be Titanium, cause i like Attack on titan so much!
Hm? Interpreting an element? Never heard that one before... Oh well... guess i'll try.
SCENE 4
Everybody has left the class. i and the girl i bumped into earlier, were the only ones left. I wasn't in a rush... really. But right when i was about to leave, the girl caught me hanging:
Mia: Hey!
I turned and she was behind me, just like with Kami earlier.
Mia: Do you wanna work together on the project? I know it's solo and all, but-
Sanroku: Sure.
She was surprised...
And once again, she lowered her head, and seeing the worry on her face... it felt like she wasn't comfortable enough around me.
Sanroku: Hey. Are you ok?
In one split of a second, she raised her head up, shocked that i had worried of her situation and said:
The student: Am I annoying to you? Do you-
Sanroku: No. You don't annoy me. You seem to have a nice touching personality...reminds me of my frien-
The student: You have friends?! Who are they?! And what's their favourite ice cream flavour?!
The student: Mine's chocolate but i simply call it choco.
Sanroku: Oh they... oh. Nvm.
The student: Umm... ok?
The student: My name is Mia by the way..
Sanroku: Nice name. Mine's Sanroku, but call me Roku. I'll cyu later... Mia.
I turned around and left.
SCENE 5
I was at home, upstairs, in my bedroom, working on my project, while i hear our doorbell ringing.
- I'll get the door! answered mom.
Mom hurried to the door, opened it, to find a little nice girl with rounded glasses, standing our doormat.
My mom, being the nice soft sweet lady that she was, welcomed Mia by saying:
Mom: Hello dear! How can i help you?
Mia: O-oh. Yes! I'm here to study for school with Sanroku. I'm Mia, his classmate. Is he here?
Mom: Well of course! Come in!
Mia: Arigatō gozaimasu* (Arigato gozaimasu means Thank you in japanese)
SCENE 6
I heard Mia's footsteps, by the way her hard rock loafer shoes, taps against each steps she takes. You can even sense they're so heavy, by the way they look and tap, like tap dance shoes.
Arrived at her destination, (aka my room), she knocked on the door and i opened it.
Mia: Hi! ^ ^
Sanroku: ...
Shoot! I didn't want to give her that emotion... I guess it's hard sometimes to be happy for the sake... but you still have to try. To fix that mistake, i simply answered back, with a delicate tender smile.
Then, to wrap it all up, since i haven't answered her "hi" back, i said:
Sanroku: Yea. Hi.
SCENE 7
We were both in my room, thinking and brainstorming of any ideas that could come across our minds, whether good or bad, since we were desperate, hopeless, and we lacked of ideas. She was sitting criss cross apple sauce on my bed, with her loafer shoes off, whereas we could only see her dark blue knee-high socks. And i was on my messy desk, turning circles and circles, on my office chair.
Mia: So, what ya' gonna do for your project? Do you know yet? Mine's Neon. People say i glow all the time. But for some reason, i don't know why?
Sanroku: It's natural. We can see it in your smile so much, that you'd be even capable of lighting a thousand candles at night.
Like always, she started blushing again and her head lowered a bit.
Mia: You think so?
Sanroku: Of course. I'm convinced you're gonna have a bright future when you grow up.
Sanroku: But relating to my project, i don't know yet. I haven't decided. Pretty much all the elements on this table don't match with my personality, no matter how hard i try to search.
Sanroku: Any ideas?
Mia: Umm... yea actually. Why don't you base your project on ...
Mia: silver!
Sanroku: Silver?
Mia: Yea! It's shiny, a conductor of electricity AND the part we use to attach the wheels to a skateboard is made out of it! What do you call it again?...
Sanroku: Truck. Skateboard truck.
Mia: Yea see! It's your "âme-soeur"! It's made for you! You know so much about physics, and how electricity and skateboards fonctions... you have so much dedication and compassion for those subjects!
Sanroku: I guess it seems like a good idea. In any case, i don't have any choice so...
SCENE 8
So well... today was an "out of the ordinary day" i guess. In the late afternoon, the rain started pouring, and both of us enjoyed the rest of the day, sipping coffee, talking about interesting subjects, working on personal projects or catching up on homework.
THE END
