She kneeled before the figure sitting languidly atop the cold metal throne.
“It is done.” She confirmed at his expectant gaze, boring a hole through her.
She awaited his reply only to suppress a shiver as he tipped his head back and began laughing softly to himself. She glanced up to see him rise from his throne and shift his gaze to her, a cruel smile on his lips. She returned her own cold smile.
“He will not see his error until it is too late.”
He stepped down and held out a hand to clasp her by the chin. The coldness crept through her veins, her heart beating furiously to outrun the coldness but failing.
“This is only the beginning.” He softly promised, swallowing her whole in the darkness of his gaze, his voice.
She walked briskly along the pavement before stopping, her calm expression betrayed by the tense stance.
“You might as well come out.” She called out, folding her arms and waiting patiently.
“Take me to him.” A voice challenged.
She put a face to the voice as a figure sauntered from the corner ahead. The back of her neck prickled with apprehension as she saw another figure watch passively behind her a couple meters away but she stood her ground.
She eyed the one before her, taking note of his dangerously flirtatious mouth and even more dangerous dark eyes.
“Patience is a virtue, Mikael D’Angelo.” She softly replied.
Mikael narrowed his eyes, approaching in a slow predatory dance. “My apologies. I don’t quite know your name.”
She stood her ground even when he was merely inches away she could have touched him.
“My name is of no consequence. You’re after him, are you not?” She softly reminded him, throwing her own challenge.
Mikael slowly ran his eyes down her figure, resting his gaze on her face. He took in the small but full lips, the hazel eyes and pertinently straight nose.
She was beautiful without a doubt.
Mikael slowly smiled and nodded dismissively at her.
“You are quite an enigma, little girl.” He murmured, circling her, his eyes never leaving hers. “You smell human. I can hear your life force pulse through you.” He leaned in and inhaled, his eyes closed momentarily before glancing at her once more. “Yet you have lived several lifetimes.” He suddenly said, his gaze steely as he carefully watched her for a reaction at his observation.
“Humans live and die. Only our kind live to see the world rise and fall.”
She gave no indication of fear or any reaction to the statement. “Then what remains is the one possible answer.” She returned.
Before he could react, she had struck out and gently laid the unconscious figure on the ground. The other figure behind her remained at bay, awaiting her next move.
“Return to the warehouse. I will bring you to him.”
She didn’t wait for a confirmation as she turned her back on them and walked away.
