The boy turns to the right in the alleyway and stops in front of a wooden door that looks to be about to drop off its hinges. He opens it, and quickly walks inside, Finley not hesitating to follow.
Inside, it looks to be a small storage room. It is cold and dirty, but a good size and very roomy. But the students can tell it is still a bit dangerous. The smells around the room are questionable, and mold can be seen in the corners. There is even a bee's nest in the far right that buzzes frantically.
But in the left corner, Finley's eyes are wide to see a small child. A girl, not even older than three, sits there, playing with the hay that is under her. That cannot be comfortable.
Cailin, Ella, and Julian enter after Finley. Their eyes are wide as well. The child is extremely sick. She is skinny, pale, and her eyes are crusted and red with irritation. Once the little girl looks up to see the young boy, a smile forms on her face as the boy picks her up silently. He then turns back around to face the others with a nod.
"Oh. You're ready to go now?" Ella asks hesitantly. She tries to tell herself that she needs to complete the ten kid round up, and that she cannot just go back to school because she is nervous. The little girl is in need of medical care, fast, but she cannot just leave the rest. She has a mission to complete.
The young boy nods and Finley smiles. "Great. Two down, eight to go." He turns and pushes everybody out of the room. They then step aside to let the boy and, maybe his sister, out.
Ella leads the group back to the carriage, Finley taking the rear and watching carefully around him. Once they get to the carriage, the blonde opens the back cargo, which is connected to the front carriage. This makes it possible to hold more people.
The boy silently steps inside. Finley decides he wants to keep them company and jumps in as well. Nobody questions it as the blonde closes the door behind him. Cailin, and the other three, take the front.
The boy sits down, setting the little girl next to him as the carriage begins to ride down the road again. Finley takes off his mask, shaking his head as his long hair falls out of the loose ponytail. He catches the rubber band and quickly begins to tie it back in a french braid. He smiles at the boy, who seems mesmerized, the little girl humming next to him.
"So, what's your name? Care to tell me?" Finley asks, tucking his bangs back behind his ear and giving the boy his full attention, frowning when he does not respond.
"You don't talk much do you?" He asks, the boy still not responding. He turns to the little girl, who does her best to look back at him and Finley smiles at her. "But that’s okay. How about you? What’s your name, princess?" The little girl smiles.
"Candy! And that's Myles," she says happily, pointing to the boy. "He's my brother."
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Candy. And Myles," he states, smiling at the boy who graces him with a small grin of his own, but it quickly fades.
"Where are we going?" Candy asks, and Finley straightens in his seat.
"A very amazing place. It's called King's School for Dragon Leaders. It's a place where lost kids like you go."
Candy tilts her head, turning to her brother. He gives a closed lipped smile, and a nod. Candy smiles at the reassurance as she turns back to Finley. "Dragons? I've read about dragons. They are scary with big wings and fangs."
Finley chuckles. "Yes, they can be scary at times, but you will love the ones we have here, and they will love you. They are trained to like humans."
Candy's eyes sparkle. "There are actual dragons there?”
"Mhm. And magic." Finley begins to tell them all about the school he goes to, and even Myles looks to be a little more excited than when he first hopped in.
Soon, Finley has to move back to the front carriage, because space in the back is getting crowded. This Rally has been a success on their part. They got all ten kids and teenagers without getting caught, and without anyone trying to break into their carriage.
The coachman takes them back to school, all four friends making sure nobody tries anything as they arrive at the main square. In the back, they have six teens, and four kids under the age of 12. The four kids are going to begin the magic curriculum, while the other five will be entering nanny training, if they so wish, of course.
As the gates open, the four friends see that some of their classmates have come back early. Students escort their ten into the school, Universe Dragons standing around the entrance in case extra help is needed. With the creatures basking in the sun so regally, shocked stares and frightened glances from the kids are earned as their carriage stops. The four of them get out as the coachman helps to open the cargo doors.
Julian steps a bit closer to help the kids down the stairs. "Alright guys, let’s get going. You all are safe now." Some of the new students give smiles as the teens take at least one child with them to help them down the steps.
"Can you get a medic? We have a bad case here," Ella asks the coachman, who nods obediently, and begins to hurry up to a Universe Dragon. The large creature huffs in understanding, before entering the school to go and get a doctor.
"Just wait here, we want to get your sister checked out before you go anywhere," Finley tells Myles when they step down.
Myles tightens his hold on his sibling, making the blonde grin lightly. "You won’t be separated, I promise," he tells them, the silent boy nodding once. Finley can tell he is having a war within his brain before deciding to stay put.
As Ella and Julian lead the others into the school, Cailin turns to Finley as he takes off the mask. "Great start huh?" He asks and the younger scholar smiles.
"Definitely. It was better than I expected."
Cailin wraps an arm around his friend, staring at the long line of kids that walk to the school doors. "I didn't think it would feel this good."
Finley grins, laying his head on the brunette’s shoulder as the medic comes racing out and down the steps. He comes over to where the four stand, taking in the sight of Myles’s sister with dismay.
He pales. "Oh dear," he mumbles. He steps closer to visually inspect Candy, just when she sneezes. The doctor winces. "We need to take a look at her right away. How long has she been exposed to unclean air?" He asks Myles, who looks uncomfortable. He turns to Finley for help.
The blonde tears himself away from Cailin, walking over to the doctor. "He doesn't speak. Candy does though, but I doubt she knows how long she's been out on the streets. She’s three."
The doctor nods, taking a breath. "She shouldn't be exposed to any more of it, we need to get her inside now so we can get a good look at her."
"I understand. They're siblings though, so don't separate them."
"Of course not, I wouldn't dare. Come with me…." He gives a questioning look to the older brother and Finley grins.
"His name is Myles."
The doctor smiles back. "Myles. Alright. Follow me Myles, and we'll see what we can do to make your sister feel more comfortable."
Looking hopeful, and a bit desperate, the brother nods. He follows the medic inside the school, Finley and Cailin watching after them with concern.
"Will she be alright?" Cailin asks, and Finley sighs.
"I hope so."
