On her face, plastered with fear, she saw the ground approach. Without a parachute or anything to slow her down, Maria started crying and struggling.
Trying to regain her balance, she soon found it impossible. The closer Maria got to the ground, the more she despaired.
When she reached her hand up to her eyes, realizing that it wasn’t her face. Her mouth was not this blistered. Her face was not this bruised. Her nose was larger than she remembered, and looking up, she noticed a pair of eyeglasses lifting away from her face as she fell.
She started to wonder, “Am I in another body? Who is this per-“
Her fall broke, sending her crashing into the ground and a sharp pain surging through her chest.
She let out a faint scream before losing consciousness.
Maria woke up scared, screaming, and crying with remnants of pain. That pain didn’t go away. Instead, it strengthened, this time a little further below the chest.
A large gash, already healing the instant she peeled away her clothes to get a better look at it. She could almost see her organs before the wound closed.
Maria was scared, scared beyond belief, and started to question herself. She didn’t understand it now, but something big would happen because of her when she did.
