We talked for hours and slept under the stars. That night we heard footsteps in the woods. There was more than one person. As they came closer we could hear them frantically whispering. I signed to Jane:
[Lay back down and pretend to sleep. Maybe they're thieves, they take what they want and leave.] She nodded and we both laid back down. When they finally step into our camp the people continue to whisper. I could make out that there were five of them. Three men and two women. One of the men stepped around me.
“Don’t they look pretty small to be out here by themselves?” he walks over to me. He pulls back my sleeping bag a little to see my face. He lets out a little gasp as he backs away. He walks back over to his group.
“Guys, these are children. They're out here alone, what should we do?” he asked as if he were a concerned parent. One of the girls just sucks her teeth and gives a little chuckle.
“What do you mean, “what do we do'' idiot? We do nothing! We’re not supposed to be out here and they might just be abandoned homeless kids. They’re not our problem. How do we know that they’re alone anyway?” the man scoffs at her and walks back over to me. He gives me a little shake.
“Hey kid, wake up.” he called to me. I open my eyes and quickly sit up. He threw his hands up to show he meant no harm, but I don’t know that for sure. I jumped up and ran over to Jane's side. She looks up at me.
[Hey, you can get up now. We have to go.] I grab her arm and pull her to her feet. Jane looks at me and then at a bag on the ground. The bag had the card, some cash, and our food in it. She inched forward to grab it, but I stopped her and went myself. I slowly walked forward grabbed the bag and backed away. The man that shook me came a little closer. Jane jumps at him and I pull her behind me. The man keeps his hands in the air and comes closer and closer.
“We aren’t going back to the town. It’s bad for Jamie there, and I…” the man stops moving and sighs in relief.
“Guys, these are the missing kids from the flyers. The ones from the explosion,” he says back to the group. One of the other guys chuckles and steps forward. He looks right at me.
“So that’s why you don’t want to go back, kid. You did that. You blew up that house with that guy inside.” he began to laugh and the others joined in. These people are insane. They take murder so lightly and even laugh at the death of others.
Boom, new characters. I honestly sat at my computer for an hour thinking of what would fit in this space and didn't think of anything until my weird brother came in the room and started yelling about his girlfriends' slutty friend. I don't know how I came up with this from his story, but here we are.
Jamie had the perfect family, but one night the truth came out and now moms gone. He has to keep quite or else. Can he keep these secrets to himself? Or will he finally blow? Every thing has gone down hill, how can he survive and protect the only family he has left all at once?
I guess you'll have to read to find out, now won't you? Find out what happens, every Sunday.
