Clouds, honestly Gowan never understood why people wanted to sit near the window, after a while all you can see from the distance is...well you guessed it, clouds. After a minute of calm nothingness, he grabbed his wine glass.
A minute passed by and the jet started to convulse. Wine sloshed in the glass, while Mr. Quadrupatrillionaire was clutching his seat with white knuckles.
After a while of this, the plane stabilized.
Cliff came out of the cockpit and into his private room to check if Gowan was alright. He sat across from him and stared into his indigo blue eyes. “Sir, not like I’m doubting you or anything but um…” Cliff hesitated for a bit before inhaling and said “Why’d you decide to leave home?”. Gowan puckered his lips before looking out at the deep blue indigo.
“You have everything, money, fame, women are basically flocking like hungry seagulls around you.” He noticed him pondering about his question, staring deeply through the glass. Cliff couldn’t resist admiring the man in front of him...he always seemed calm and gentle. Cliff’s daydream popped when Gowan opened his lips and spoke
“that wasn’t a home,
it was a house...Mr. Jenkins.”
“O-oh...it’s just Sir...n-not...not Mr...haha...ha…mmmmmm” Cliff mumbled while his face became a flaming tomato.
“Home is a place where...you feel comfortable...I mean yes, it did feel good for a long time but it lost its spark.”
Cliff looked up from his hands and locked eyes with the man.
“I-I think I get how you feel.” he replied. “My sister, one day while I was coming back home, she secretly bought a puppy. My parents were furious haha! But...she made the house...feel like a home and I’m just really happy you’re taking this risk...a change of scenery is good for the um...heart...and soul...and stuff...” Cliff said while giving a warm smile.
“Thank you, Cliff.” the man whispered. “O-oh wait! I got these for you” Cliff said before reaching into his backpack. Gowan couldn’t help but giggle because his assistant’s backpack was lined with pins and stickers of different anime and manga characters, as well as food pins.
Cliff took out a bag of gummy bears in his backpack and placed it on the table in between them. “I like to chew on gummy bears when I’m nervous and scared and...I know you’re afraid of heights...so um...I hope this helps you, sir.” Gowan gave Cliff a small smile and a nod. “Well, I better go back, we’re about to reach Clam Shore City!” he said before getting up and shutting the door.
The man’s eyes wandered off to the clouds once more after which, turbulence wanted a round two and Gowan started shaking. He saw the bag on the table and ate some gummy bears.
“Oh...strawberry...who knew Cliff liked the same flavor as me” Gowan thought while eating the sweet treat.
After thirty minutes, Cliff came back to the room. “Sir, I have some terrible news to give you...” Gowan furrowed his brows , “What is it?” he muttered. “The jet can’t make it all the way to Clam Shore City, we’ll need to refuel in the airport near Solace Creek. Oh, Solace Creek is my hometown if you were wonde-”
Gowan let out a sigh before saying “Why didn’t you get enough fuel for the trip then?”. Cliff bit his lip and looked down in guilt. “I-I’m sorry, sir! Please forgive me.” the male said before giving a low bow. “ Just make this quick” Gowan said before taking a long sip from his wine glass. Cliff didn’t say anything before leaving the room.
As he closed the door he collapsed on the floor “Oh my god! Phew, I thought I’d be fired then and there!” he panted. Gowan was disappointed his trip would be delayed but he was somewhat hopeful. He reached into his suit’s left pocket and took out his Iphone 9000.
After searching for Solace Creek online, he pressed images and saw the most beautiful pictures of the entire world! Old rusty porches lined with half-broken wood, buildings that couldn’t possibly be held up but surprisingly seemed stable, moss and grime all over the streets. With a low sigh, Gowan knew that this place wasn’t his home.
