"Now children, when getting your dragon, it should take a little while for the creature to become accustomed to you. You must let them know that they can trust you, and you have the opportunity to name them."
A girl in the back raised her hand and the teacher smiled at her. "Yes, Paige?”
"Is it possible to get two dragons, Ms. Tenner?"
The teacher hesitated, humming as she tapped her pointer against her chin. "Excellent question.... I guess you will just have to wait and see. It's never happened before, but it's up to the Universe Dragons to decide. Any other questions?"
"How do you know when you've found your soulmate?" A boy sitting at Finley and Cailin's table asked randomly. The students around began to giggle excitedly.
Ms. Tenner gave a teasing look. "Now Bryan, you know this isn't the class to ask these types of questions…." She looked over at the clock, realizing that class would be over soon, and sighed. "But since we have time…. I don't really know how to answer that. It's different for everybody. Sometimes you'll just know, and other times you get weird feelings. Sometimes, but rarely, your senses will enhance to only your other half. It will be quite difficult to stay away from them."
"And is it possible to love somebody else?" Paige asked.
Ms. Tenner gave a smile. "Not possible at all. Whoever your soulmate is, your heart will go only to them."
It is a day after their first Rally, and if Finley and Cailin were popular in the beginning, they are now even more popular. In every single class, there is at least one student asking to hold Finley’s wand. Cailin is undergoing the same treatment. All the questions and the gossip were getting so annoying to the blonde. While Cailin seemed to be thriving under the pressure, Finley had to try to keep himself from showing off his bad side. The number of times he had to keep himself from glaring or snapping at people, was a little too much.
“So, Cailin, have you found your soulmate yet?”
Finley tenses as his friends, and three other girls who the blonde does not know, sit at the lunch tables. Finley does his best not to glare at the girls who just happened to decide they wanted to interrupt their happy lunch hour, but Ella and Julian seem to be doing the glaring job for him.
Finley hates talking about soulmates, it makes him uncomfortable. This is especially the case when Cailin is around, since he is the only one who knows about his... preferences.
The brunette glances at Finley uncomfortably, and the younger boy does not meet his eyes. "Um…. Not that I’m aware of," he mumbles, frowning at the girls who give looks of relief.
"Well, who do you think it's going to be? If you had one girl that you could choose?” One blonde questions, all three of them leaning in.
Cailin hesitates, looking awkward as he glances around the large lunchroom, before he looks at Ella. He grins evilly. "Ella."
Said student chokes on her tomato soup.
The girl’s frown, glaring at the frizzy haired scholar who glares back. This is before she realizes Cailin is looking for her to save his skin. She relaxes, before straightening her posture. "Yeah, that's right! Write my name in bold on the walls! Now you got your answer, now shoo before I choose to use this spoon to ruin your pretty little dresses,” she threatens, setting some soup in her spoon and bringing it back like a slingshot.
The girls leave quickly, and Julian turns to grin at her. "Nice."
Ella shrugs, smiling. "I know." She turns to Cailin, who bats his eyelashes innocently. Ella frowns, eyes squinting in suspicion. "You better have been kidding, you little cockroach."
At the odd nickname, the four stare at each other, before laughing.
Finley has spent the last four hours in the library. It is his sanctuary, his little piece of heaven that nobody ever visits. The library is a large room, lit with chandeliers. Tables, couches, and comfy chairs are scattered around the floors. There are towers of shelves filled with books, ranging from children's books, to fantasy, to spell books. Finley has been spending all his time in the spell book section, long blonde hair pulled in a cute messy high ponytail to keep it out of his face. Cailin's butterfly clip that he bought for the blonde to use, is holding his bangs back while he lays on his stomach on the floor in his pajamas.
He swings his socked feet behind him, head on his hand as he reads over an animal spell. This one in particular makes it possible to talk to them, and Finley cannot wait to try it out. He has already memorized many spells from volume one. He is not even halfway done yet, but that is what makes him so excited. There are so many spells to learn, and he wants to learn them all!
"Are you comfortable, sweetheart? I would be happy to give you a pillow you can rest your arms on," the librarian, Stephen, asks in his ever so calming voice.
Finley smiles up at one of his only friends. Stephen has overseen the library for 10 years now and does not look a day over 25. He is a beautiful man, with dark curly hair that hangs to his shoulders, eyes that look like honey, skin like caramel.
Finley will not lie; he had a small crush on him when he was little.
"I'm okay, thanks Stephen," he responds. The librarian chuckles, walking over to run his hands through Finley's bun, before walking off to place more books up.
"Whatever you say, boss," he states before disappearing behind a corner. Finley cools his heated cheeks as he turns back around, getting focused into his spells again.
Another peaceful thirty minutes pass of the blonde in his happy place, before he shrieks when he feels nails skittering over his socked feet. He turns onto his back, kicking Cailin in the knees when the brunette laughs at him, grabbing his ankles. "I knew you would be in here, you little nerd," the older boy begins teasingly, Finley's cheeks heating yet again as he rests his head on the spell book.
He tries to get his ankles free as he frowns. "Don't scare me like that!"
"Don't scare me like that!" Cailin mimics, making Finley glare at him and give up. The blonde lets his legs relax, the other boy dropping them to lay down next to him. "What are you reading?"
"A spell book," he responds, sitting up and turning back to his stomach. He pushes the book over so they can both look at it, Cailin setting a hand beneath his chin. "What spells have you found?" He asks, flipping through the pages absently and Finley shrugs.
"I memorized one for moving objects around, and another for talking to animals."
Cailin grins over at his friend. "Of course. The animals again."
Finley rolls his eyes, laying on his side to look at the brunette as he shrugs. "Come on, it'll be pretty cool."
"Yeah, I guess it will be."
"What spells would you find cool then?"
Cailin bites his lip, slowly shrugging his shoulders. "Mind reading, element controlling."
Finley's cheeks flush. "You, with mind reading? I would never hear the end of it."
The older boy raises an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? What are you trying to hide from me? Your secret crush on Stephen?"
“SHH!” Finley whisper-yells, flipping Cailin on his back and straddling him as the brunette busts out laughing. "Finny's got a crushhh, Finny's got a crushh~" He sings, blocking off the blonde’s hands with his arms that try to cover his mouth.
"Shut up!"
"Finley and Stephen sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-AH!" Cailin shouts a laugh as the blonde pokes his sides hard. Cailin's hands fall away as he tries to protect them, which makes an opening for Finley to snap his hands over the other boy’s mouth, successfully silencing him.
"I don't have a crush on him!" Finley whispers sharply, picking his head up and looking around the library halls to see if anyone heard.
Cailin giggles under his friend’s hands, eyes sparkling with happiness as he grasps Finley's waist, making the blonde’s face heat up at the loving touch. Cailin tries to say something under the pale hands and Finley hesitates, suspicious, but he slowly lets him go. Cailin takes a breath. "You're so cute when you’re embarrassed. STEPHEN!" He shouts, and the blonde gasps. His hands reach for Cailin's mouth again, but the older boy’s hands catch his wrists.
"STEPHEN!" He shouts again, both fighting for dominance as Cailin laughs loudly.
"Cailin, shut up!"
"What are you brats doing? This is a library, be quiet," Stephen teases, smiling as he comes around the corner, and Finley's eyes widen in terror. Cailin lets out a loud bright and evil laugh, before taking another breath. Before he can get anything out, the blonde successfully frees his hands, clasping them on his mouth again.
Finley smiles up at Stephen who raises an eyebrow. Cailin squirms under him, trying to free his mouth and the younger boy’s cheeks cannot get any more red. "N-Nothing…." He squeals again when Cailin's hands find his sides, Stephen rolling his eyes.
"Alright, that is enough, you two." He comes over, taking the boy’s hands to separate them as they both try to catch their breaths. "Now what's going on?" He asks, and Finley gives Cailin a warning glare as the older scholar grins up at the librarian.
