Autumn had barely begun, and Lucian already felt a terrible cold run through his body. The cold he felt was damp and entered his bones, leaving a feeling that he would never be able to feel warm again in this life. In fact, since the damned witch's last words, Lucian didn't know what it felt like to be warm. How could he have guessed that at the time of his death, the bastard was going to curse him? Lucian thought with a sigh.
It wasn't just the cold that was making him uncomfortable, the wait for his subordinates to return with the magician was almost driving the young Hathaway family master crazy.
His father, Lord Hathaway, had been poisoned by some insidious rat from the rebellion. Baltazar was on the verge of death, the poison was taking over his body quickly. This mage, Marcos, was their only hope.
Baltazar and Marcos have been close friends in the distant past. Lucian did not know what had happened between them, but it was certainly serious. He wondered what could have happened for a friendship that had lasted so many years to be undone. Not that Lucian cared, what mattered was that this wizard could save his father.
"Young master, they have arrived," butler Jonas's voice brought Lucian out of his thoughts.
He had to take a deep breath, fighting his instinct to run towards the fountains. His anxiety was racing, but he was the only representative of the family and therefore had to act accordingly.
"Thank you, Jonas, you can leave" the young master spoke calmly, controlling his emotions in his voice.
Lucian started to make his way towards the main courtyard. A part of him was relieved, as he had almost lost hope that the magician would arrive in time.
Initially, Lucian only had eyes for the wizard. His gaze was fixed on the thin man in front of him and cannot prevent a feeling of disappointment. Was this the great mage Marcos that your father begged for help before he lost consciousness? For Lucian, he was more like a frail old man.
As if he had heard Lucian's thoughts, Marcos looked with determination and anger at the young master. Interesting, perhaps not as fragile as I had thought, Lucian thought impressed. Something about Marcos's angry and resentful look made the young man feel a hint of hope in his father's recovery.
