“To form a spell, you need a minimum of 4 things. First of all, of course, mana, secondly, refined mana channels. Then mana sensitivity and mental power”
Knavnos demonstrated, a thread of light condensed, forming a small sphere of light.
“Mana channels in order to evoke the spell. Mana sensitivity so you can ‘see’ the mana clearer and have more control, and mental power in order to shape the spell. However, since you are a God Vessel, you do not need mana channels and your mana sensitivity is the peak of all mages, it’s just that your senses haven’t been activated yet.”
It was a week since Lifa had woken up, and today was the first time Knavnos agreed for practical lessons. Although Lifa’s lifestyle was always simple and plain, an entire week, each and every day with 16 hours of lectures was way too monotonous and boring. In a different manner than with Desiderius, her sanity was questioned.
During this, she naturally learned what mana sensitivity and mental power was. Mana sensibility was crucial, if not the most important for spell casting. Mana channels, while very helpful and 9 times out of 10, essential for mages, it is not 100% necessary if it is only about spell casting. Although there will be major backlash without, it is still possible to cast magic. Mana is everywhere, and if you have a mana core, it will naturally, slowly accumulate in the body, mana channels assist with the speed and efficiency, as well as ensure no organic tissue is harmed accidently by the mana. Mana sensitivity makes you able ‘see’ the mana. Without it, you are blind, you don’t even know the amount of mana stored in your mana core. Much less know how to ‘move’ the mana outside and control it. And even if you have it, if it is weak, it still doesn’t matter. You can only vaguely ‘see’ it, meaning your control over it is a mess and the magic will fail.
Mental power would be similar to your intellectual level and willpower, resolve etc. Using this, you literally shape the mana into the form you want.
In other words, Lifa would not be troubled by everything any other mage would come across when seeking the truths of mana. Mana was not a problem, seeing her entire body was the mana core, mana sensitivity would be the highest possible, mana channels were unnecessary, and her mental power was also high. She was simple minded, but had enough willpower and resolve for revenge to persist in a bloody battlefield for 2 years, then had her willpower abnormally strengthened through hellish struggle, after which is was enhanced even more from the psychological ‘torture’ Knavnos put her through.
“The next requirement is knowledge of spells, I hope you remember what I taught you?”
Lifa shuddered at the horrifying memory.
Knavnos inwardly snickered, he was renowned as the devil tutor even among his species.
“Anyway, I will activate your mana sense, a little warning beforehand, it will cause a feeling similar to… seasickness? I suppose that would be the closest experience you know”
Knavnos moved behind her, reaching out. He placed one hand on her back and the other on her head. Lifa was slightly uncomfortable, from what she learned, the Herns species don’t like physical contact, even hate it unless for romantic interests. Also, she knew almost all magic spells didn’t require physical contact, most of it was purely ceremonial.
Before she could ask further, or even do anything, she experienced a dull shock, spreading from her spine. She lost all feeling in that area, sadly for her, that was only for a moment.
The next instance, she felt as if she was burned alive, then a freezing cold covered her skin, fierce winds cut her to pieces, then, she drowned in molten magma. It was strange, as if she was being thrown around like a ragdoll, while she was continuously burned. With each passing second the pain became worse and worse, she couldn’t get used to it at all. Only after what seemed like an eternity did the burning decrease, a couple of seconds later, it felt as if she was in a storm, flung high in the air, then dropped, accelerating to the point comparable to a speeding bullet.
And then, she vomited.
A ghastly shock hit her many times, each inflicting excruciating pain. Lifa wanted to run, run away from the invisible swords cutting her, escape the suffering. It was worse, much worse than the days she spent in the small metal box.
After what seemed like hours, the pain subsided and she returned back in the room.
During this, her consciousness was bombarded and her senses which indicated she was in the room were cut off.
She gasped for air, holding herself up with her arms, in which she couldn’t even feel the texture of the bed.
After a while, with her vision still slightly blurred, she saw a silver blob, Knavnos, presumably.
“For reference, you were gone for 10 seconds”
Knavnos blamed himself a little, he did know that when a person who couldn’t sense mana suddenly feels the abundance of mana in the atmosphere, and is highly sensitive to it even, it would bombard her other senses to the limit.
He didn’t think it would be that bad, but looking at her physical state, he speculated. Her senses were heightened to the extremes, speeding up her perception of time by hundreds. In that state where even a light breeze could be felt as a storm, the unfamiliar feeling of mana continuously hit on her senses would have mentally broken her.
But he also believed, Aurofium is a proud god, one of the highest ranked ones. He would most definitely not allow his vessel to be weak. After noticing this, Aurofium would strengthen her, by a lot.
He also saw she wasn’t in the state to answer right now so continued talking.
“I sincerely apologize, I underestimated your mana sensitivity. By now, you should see the mana without hurting your other senses. I will leave it up to here for today”
He swifty vanished, teleporting back to his own house.
After about 2 hours to stabilize herself, Lifa finally had enough energy and mental power to concentrate on other things.
Around her, tiny specks of blue light floated around, endless amounts of them. Mana particles.
Lifa attempted to touch a mana particle, her hand passing right through it. Then, the particle suddenly moved and went into her arm. It felt refreshing, warm.
She tried a variety of things. Absorbing more mana, trying to control the mana particles with her mental power. And finally she ejected small amounts of mana. With it, she imagined a ball of light, a basic magic spell. Almost immediately she could see the mana particles gather and glow brighter and brighter. Then, it became similar to a small sun, illuminating the entire room.
She tried to turn off her mana senses, or lower the sensitivity. After a few random attempts, she succeeded. She could no longer see it with her eyes, but she just felt it, she didn’t know how many particles, but it was around her. One by one, she tried all the basic attribute based spells.
The most basic elemental spells.
Fireball, Waterball, Stone bullet, Wind blast.
Then the most basic other main attribute spells.
Body fortification, Lesser healing, Substance alter, Dark bullet, Illumination, Soul enhance.
They all succeeded, however Lesser healing had the most obvious effect.
Was her affinity with Heal?
She experimented, taking one of the Felans, a cat-like creature, one she would have called a Feline type Yaju, size: small. She was a wounded one, perhaps a survivor from an invasion to Lifa’s mother planet and returned.
Before, Lesser healing didn’t have a target, but it still had noticeable effects on the atmosphere and Lifa herself. The others didn’t require a specific target or could be used on herself without a condition such as being wounded.
This time, when she cast Lesser healing on the Felan, the cat literally glowed, all surface scars vanishing like snow under the sunlight, once all visible wounds were gone, Lifa intended to stop. But even when she cut off her mana supply, the spell continued.
The cat grew larger and more mature. Its claws were sharper, longer and gave off a sinister feeling. It went from the size of a normal cat to that of a large lion.
Daughter of the Heavens, allow this humble one to follow you.
Lifa whirled around, searching for the source of the voice.
In front of you, I can feel the presence of a God within you, please allow this small one to follow you.
Lifa stared with disbelief at the Felan in front of her. It stared back, with profound intelligence shining within its eyes.
Aurofium, one of the 5 God Kings, governing over the edict of Life and Creation. The Supreme Ruler of all Existence.
Today, Intergalactic Celia's Calendar, year 42,002,228,231. Hummer(February) the 17th, the Blessing of the Absolute descended upon the mortal real through the Vessel Lifael Igurdis.
