The next morning, Alex's alarm didn't ring annoyingly like it always did. She raced downstairs and ran flat out to her school without grabbing some toast. The bitter cold bit at her exposed face. It was winter. Snow was lightly drifting down from the grey, cold cloudy sky. When she arrived at her red-bricked school, she wasn't surprised to see Nathan also sprinting to get to his class, he was always late.
"Oi! Nathan!" Alex shouted over to her brother who was sprinting along with her. "What?" Nathan shouted back. Alex smiled, pointed to something in front of them, and stopped. Less than half a second later, Nathan was lying on the floor infront of the wall he had just smacked into. "No sprinting in the hallways," Alex taunted as she silently walked to her classroom on the right. "You're late." Alex's teacher said. Of course, I'm late. Alex thought. She walked over to her desk and slumped down into it, shoving her bag into her desk roughly.
As she did so, a blinding yellow light filled the room. She couldn't hear anything. She shut her eyes closed. Suddenly, the light dimmed and her teacher continued talking as though nothing happened. "What-?" Alex whispered quietly to herself. She looked around. Nobody else seemed to notice what just happened.
