Elizabeth was quick to give her drink order to try and hurry him along. This caught Lilith’s eye however, and to purposely add more suspense she took extra time with her own. “Oh, I think we're also ready to give our food orders!~” She added in while giving a coy smile to her date.
She stared down at her menu quickly, her mind a little frazzled with the suspense of her date’s answer poking at her internally. She wasn't actually ready to order food, but she managed to find something quickly enough to play along with Lilith's 'game'.
“Alright, I'll be back with your drinks shortly.” The server told them with a polite smile before walking away from their table.
With all their orders out of the way, Lilith stuck her tongue out playfully at her flustered friend. “I gotcha didn't I!~ You tooootally thought I was doing something dirty for money weren't you?”
She sunk in her seat a little and looked down as she tried to hide the shame on her face. “Sorry about that...”
She couldn't help but laugh at the poor woman, resting her hand on her chin as she leaned closer on the table. “I do glamour modeling for a friend in Tartarus. He uses it for stuff here and there, but I usually give him enough material that he doesn't need to have photo sessions with me very often.” She explained to Elizabeth with a smile. “Maybe I could even do one with you some time~”
The timid woman shook her head furiously and stared down at herself. “I wouldn't be a fit for something like that! Nevermind that I don't think I could put myself in the open that way...”
She giggled while poking her on the nose. “Well I'll keep my offer open if you ever change your mind~” She placed a comforting hand back on top of hers to keep her calm.
Elizabeth glanced out the window with a smile, taking in more of the downtown beauty as the orange in the sky slowly faded to darkness. Between the sights and her talks with Lilith, she was having more fun than she expected so far.
“I'm kinda curious, you don't really seem like you know much about the city here. Haven't you lived here for a while?” The succubus asked as their server came by the table and dropped off their drinks. She took the straw from her daiquiri between her fingers and gently stirred it.
Elizabeth took a sip of her soda before shaking her head. “I only came here for university actually, this city is way bigger than what I'm used to.” She explained while taking another sip. “I lived in a smaller town before this with my mom. Apparently when I was younger we lived with my dad out in the country, so bigger cities I guess aren't my element!” she said with a light chuckle.
She raised an eyebrow curiously as she took a sip of her own drink. “You've talked about your mom a lot, and she's the one you talk to on the phone. Do you not see your dad much?”
“I don't actually remember my dad, so I don't know him.” Elizabeth's expression didn't sour, however it became rather blank. The subject was something she had thought to death about, so she had a difficult time knowing how to feel about it. “I don't remember anything from when I was younger... I got into an accident, which is how this happened,” she explained while gesturing to her eyepatch. “The earliest thing I do remember is waking up in the hospital, while recovering from it. Dad passed away during the accident, and Mom doesn't like to talk about it.”
Lilith frowned and held Elizabeth's hand tighter. “I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bring something like that up!” She said with a truly apologetic look in her eyes.
Elizabeth shook her head in response, smiling again as she held Lilith's hand in return. “Don't be, you had no idea! This is stuff I've mostly come to terms with now, I don't feel too much in regards to it,” she said with a slight pause, “thank you though.”
The two continued to chat as they waited for their food to arrive. With each passing minute, Elizabeth grew more and more comfortable with the situation as a whole. Sarana was right about it being a little scary at first, but it became significantly easier once she was out there. The time for both of them flew by quickly, and before they knew it, their dinner had arrived.
After thanking their server for their meals, the two wasted no time digging into their food. Elizabeth made an audible sound of satisfaction with the first bite of her fried fish. She covered her mouth out of embarrassment at first, but after she finished chewing she couldn't help but laugh at herself.
Lilith giggled along with her as she twirled her pasta onto her fork and took a bite of it. Seeing her friend be able to let go a little more was a delight for her. “You've just been soooo cute tonight, princess~” she said to her teasingly.
Although she was embarrassed by the statement, she didn't outright deny it like she usually would. While she enjoyed her time with all the succubi thus far, being able to get to know one of them and just be alone together was taking down her barriers one by one. She was very happy, she was laughing, and now any time her hand touched Lilith's she had the 'good' butterflies in her stomach.
The succubus found a very long noodle buried in her pasta plate and held it up with her fork. “Should we do that human thing I've seen where you share this together into a kiss?~” she asked her with a teasing wink.
She rolled her eyes and giggled at her softly. “Do you know how much of a cliché that is? Besides, it's supposed to happen accidentally!”
“You've gotta be kidding me?!” She leaned back against her booth seat with an overplayed expression of shock. “M-me?! Perform a cliché?! I would never!”
Elizabeth's eyes went wide, as she was sipping on her soda during the succubus' dramatic reaction. She covered her mouth with her arm to keep herself from laughing into a spit take. Once she was in the clear, she grabbed her napkin to wipe her mouth clean.
While she was doing that, her date had twirled more pasta onto her fork and held it across the table for her. “Slightly less of a cliché... try some of it, sweetie~” She insisted by moving the fork closer.
She rubbed her cheek bashfully before caving in, opening her mouth and taking the bite of pasta off the fork. She was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. “We need to come back here some time, for sure.” She thought to herself as she cut a piece of fish onto her own fork. Wanting to join on the fun, she reached out across the table now herself with a bite of fish for Lilith. “H-here, this is for you!”
The succubus had no hesitation in taking the bite, almost too eager to accept the offer. She squeaked with satisfaction before giving her date a coy smile. “My my~ Look how bold you've gotten, two indirect kisses in less than a minute!~”
“Two indirect kisses isn't much compared to that first kiss you gave me...” She reminded her while glancing down with embarrassment. She remembered clearly how lewd their kiss was on the day they met.
She laughed quietly in response and glanced away as she took another bite of her food. “Yeah... I kinda guess it was, wasn't it?”
After a tiny bit more playful food shenanigans, the pair finally finished eating. Just as she promised, Lilith covered the whole bill and gave their server a generous tip before they left.
The sky was dark now with a beautiful blue hue to it, stars in the distance sparkling throughout. The city had shifted to complete nightlife now, the bright signs of all the different establishments illuminating the downtown area.
Lilith led Elizabeth along by the hand once more as they walked down from the restaurant, back in the direction to the alley they had come from. There were far less people wandering outside, so the crowds weren't an anxiety issue for the latter for the time being.
However Elizabeth felt something off about her friend as they walked along. It was small, but she thought she noticed it at some point during their meal. “Why are we heading back home already?” she asked curiously.
She looked back and gave her a small smile. “I promised to have you home before it was too late didn't I?” She reminded her about what Euryale said before they left.
She tilted her head, trying to hide the subtlest frown on her face. “But she said before midnight... and it's not even close to that yet. Are you really sure?”
There was the slightest amount of hesitation in the succubus' answer before she nodded. “I am, but you gotta tell me something. Did you have fun tonight?” She asked as her fangs glinted off the neon signs.
She nodded to her while squeezing her hand tighter. “I did, I really did have a lot of fun.” She spoke with a genuinely bright smile on her face. While she was smiling on the surface, deep down she was disheartened that their date was already going to be over. She wanted it to go on longer, and had fully expected the same from someone like Lilith. Now she really felt like something was off with her, but didn't know if it would be appropriate to ask.
They didn't chat quite as much on the way back, as if the mood had shifted a little. It was more indicative to Elizabeth that something had to be wrong. She decided she might wait until they got home, and consult Euryale before checking with Lilith herself.
Finally they rounded the corner and walked down the creepy alley to the special door... but something blocked their path partway down. “Why hello there ladies.” A young man in a hoodie who was hanging around called out to them, as he and a friend took a step in front of them. “What are you two doing around here at this time of night?”
Elizabeth froze up, holding Lilith's hand even tighter while taking a step closer to her. “Going home...” she muttered to them anxiously. She was barely loud enough for them to hear her.
Just as she spoke, another young man wandered down into the alley from the side the pair had come from, leaving them trapped from both sides. “Going home? But the night is still young! Don't you want to come hang out with us for a while?”
Lilith was biting her thumb, hard enough that the slightest drip of blood rolled down it. She moved her thumb away from her mouth and gave the boys a sultry smirk. “Now now, normally your invitation would be totally tempting for me... buuut my friend and I need to head home or we'll be in trouble!~” She told them as she let go of Elizabeth's hand.
The young man that had been moving closer to them from behind placed his hand on Elizabeth's shoulder. He appeared a bit surprised when he saw her eyepatch, but didn’t specifically draw attention to it. “C'mon I'm sure you both have enough energy to stay out a few more hours.”
As soon as he touched Elizabeth and spoke, Lilith's eyes narrowed on him and she grabbed him by the wrist tightly. “My my... getting handsy are we?~” She continued to give them the eyes of a temptress, eventually letting go of the young man's wrist and touching the back of his pants with her other hand. “Are you suuuuure I wouldn't be enough company for you three?” She asked them as she walked around them, gently sliding her hand across the pants of the other two as she did.
One of the men looked at the other and raised his eyebrow. “What do you think?”
The other shook his head in response and chuckled. “While it's tempting, why have one if you can have both?”
Lilith frowned and stopped next to her date again, making sure to keep her close. “That's too bad isn't it...” She said in a low, serious voice. “Oh no! I totally dropped my lighter!!!~” She squealed in an overly dramatic tone and snapped her fingers. Along with the snap, small smudges of blood she had left on their pants from her finger burst into flames.
The flames engulfed their pants completely, and the men were shouting and screaming as they ran out of the alley. Once outside they stopped, dropped, and rolled on the pavement in the middle of sidewalk and street. They quickly caught all the attention of the smaller nearby crowds.
Elizabeth's eyes were wide, her hand shaking a little as Lilith held it again. She looked over at her with mixed emotions, mainly concern for the men engulfed in flames.
“Don't worry sweetie, I'm in complete control right now. Just watch!~” Lilith told her as the flames continued to burn, and the pair walked out into the open with the crowds.
In less than a minute, the flames completely burned away each of the young men’s pants. The three were left laying out in their underwear for all of downtown to see. Amazingly, they had no burns or injuries from the flames; the succubus actually had enough control to only burn away their pants.
It was incredibly strange, but Elizabeth couldn’t help but laugh at the hooligans, She wasn’t sure if her head was mixed up from the roller coaster of emotions she just experienced. All she knew was that it was definitely not the ‘normal’ reaction to that situation. Now that everyone could see they were actually safe, she indirectly incited a few other bystanders to laugh at them as well.
Lilith used the commotion as an opportunity to sneak away from the scene with her friend to another area downtown. With the amount of people buzzing in to see what was going on, it was easy enough for them to get out unnoticed. Once they were far enough away from the gathering crowds, she stepped aside with her and gave her a serious look. “Are you okay, Liz?” She asked, the feeling of Elizabeth's trembling hand carved deep inside her memory.
Elizabeth nodded slowly, moving closer to her and giving her a sudden embrace. “Thank you... I was scared, but I knew you would keep me safe.” She smiled softly as she held the hug a bit longer to reassure the succubus. “I trusted you completely.”
She smiled back at her, reciprocating the hug for a bit before letting go of her friend. “I promise no more abandoned alley doorways, we can take the long way home by going across campus.” She went to pull Elizabeth along, but was unable to as she was pulled back against by her.
“Lilith... I want to stay out with you a bit longer... please.” She muttered quietly with a light blush. “Despite what happened I'm having fun, I don't want it to end yet!”
The succubus was surprised to see her date try to swing control away from her. She couldn't help but give her an approving smirk while nodding. “Okay then princess, what would you like to do?~”
Elizabeth fidgeted with her free hand and glanced down at the sidewalk. “It's nice outside tonight... and it's a beautiful evening. Could we just go for a walk, and talk for a while?” She paused, gaining a brief spurt of confidence as another idea popped into her head. “And maybe we could get some dessert? I actually know a really good ice cream place downtown, one of the few places I've been to.”
