“The quartzes will stand over there, I don’t want them mingling with the nobles.” Beau Sancy ordered.
The time for her to take charge was fast approaching and she had taken it upon herself to organize her own celebration. I saw no issues with gems of different types interacting and becoming friends. But Beau Sancy did and I couldn’t do much about it.
I was going to be leaving soon anyways.
“I think we will need some entertainment,” Beau Sancy said. “Pearls, dance.”
“Please.” I quickly added.
Pink, my pearl, smiled and saluted. “Yes, My Diamonds.”
“Yes, My Diamond.” Grey, Beau Sancy’s pearl, said while saluting.
The pearls walked over to each other. Pink held out her hand and Grey took it. Then they began to dance gracefully together. They were in sync with each other. I smiled softly as I watched them move about the floor.
Then their gems started to glow. I don’t think Beau Sancy had ever seen fusion or knew of it. But I did. I had seen gems fused so many times before. It was beautiful.
The pearls’ bodies became light and came together. The light shaped into a larger pearl then faded. A dull pink pearl stood there. She gasped and looked at herself. “Where did we go? What happened?”
I got up from my seat and walked over. I took her hands in mine. “You two fused. You are now one gem.” I smiled.
She looked relieved and smiled slightly. She had Pink’s smile that I loved so much.
“Unfuse. Fusion is banned now.” Beau Sancy said in a stern voice that had a hint of jealousy to it.
I turned to look at her as the pearls unfused and stepped away from each other. “What’s so wrong about it?”
“It could be used against me! Gems could...could fuse and shatter me! I will not allow it and that is final. Pearl, come.” Beau Sancy frowned and stormed out of the room, Grey quickly following behind her.
Pink looked down then saluted. “I’m sorry, Creator.”
“It’s alright, dear.” I knelt down and lifted her chin. “It was an accident. I’ll talk to Beau Sancy later about banning fusion. I don’t think anyone would try to shatter her as long as she’s nice to them.”
Pink smiled and nodded. “Thank you!”
“Of course.” I smiled in return.
I had grown to deeply love Pink. I wanted her to be happy and not have to worry about the rules Beau Sancy kept making. That only made me want to leave and start over more and more. To give Pink a life of happiness and freedom and not one of slavery.
“Oh! Creator. I met a gem. Corundum. Beau Sancy made her. We’ve been talking a lot and she’s really nice. I always feel warm and fuzzy around her. I don’t know why but I always want to feel like that. Her smile makes me so happy.” Pink explained, smiling and blushing.
I softly giggled. “That’s love, dear. You love her.”
“Love…” Pink repeated softly. “Yeah. I do. I think I really do. But...What should I do?”
“Go tell her. I’m sure she feels the same way.”
I wasn’t sure. I knew of Corundum. She was a noble gem. Beau Sancy had made her but never explained why. She never said what her job was and I didn’t bother questioning at the time. It was the first gem Beau Sancy had made, or well ordered to be made. Corundum was special to her and that’s all I knew.
I didn’t know if Corundum returned Pink’s affections. I didn’t want to Pink to get hurt but there would be other gems she would fall in love with. Something I had never experienced.
Pink smiled and nodded. “I will! Thank you, Creator.” She said then ran out of the room.
I smiled and stood up. I walked out of the throne room and went to my room. Silence filled the air. Something I had gotten use to.
I sat on a cushion near the window and I felt something inside. A feeling of knowledge and understanding washed over me. This happened every time I was gifted a new power. That was the best way I could describe it.
The star had given me many powers but choose to have them slowly come to me. I waved my hand and a screen appeared in front of me.
Gems used screens to do work on and so I was familiar with them. But this screen was not like those. On it, I could see Pink talking with a grey gem that was only a head smaller then her.
The gem only had one eye and she smiled as pink talked. This was Corundum. Pink was confessing and I could hear everything. I could see everything.
The two embraced in a hug and their gems glowed brightly. Then they fused.
I watched with awe then anxiety crept in. Beau Sancy would be furious if she found out. Who knows what she would do. But I knew I had to do something.
I waved my hand and the screen disappeared. I stood up and quickly left my room. It didn’t take long until I reached Beau Sancy’s room.
Grey usually stood outside the room but she was nowhere to be seen. Odd. I thought to myself before knocking on the door.
“Who is it? I’m busy.” Beau Sancy called.
“Creator.”
“Oh! Come in.”
I opened the door and stepped inside. She was reading something on her own screen at her desk. I glanced around. Still no Grey.
“What do you need?” Beau Sancy asked, without looking at me.
I turned my focus to her. “I wanted to talk to you about this morning. I think it’s unwise to ban fusion. No one would try to shatter you if you just treat them with respect and kindness.”
Beau Sancy looked at me and stood up. “Why are you trying to tell me how to run my court? Aren’t you leaving after I take charge? What does it matter to you?”
“Gems matter to me! I want them to be happy and it’s not your court yet. I’m only trying to help you become a great leader.” I replied, my voice rising in volume and tone.
“Doesn’t matter. I’ll ban it again once you leave if you dare change my rule. And for someone who apparently cares so much about gems, you have no problem abandoning them!” Beau Sancy’s voice rose above mine.
“I’m not abandoning anyone!”
“Yes you are!”
My hands curled into fits and grew hot. I frowned at Beau Sancy and thrust a hand towards her. “No I’m NOT!”
I hadn’t realized my eyes had closed until I heard Beau Sancy gasp and the sound and something hard hitting the wall. When I opened my eyes, my hands glowed with a yellow-white light and a burn mark was on the wall. Beau Sancy stared at me with fear.
The star had shown me two powers that day.
I stepped back and the light from my hands faded. I ran out of the room and retreated to my own, locking the door behind me.
What had I just done? Was I trying to hurt Beau Sancy? I was so angry with her. I wanted to protect Pink. Beau Sancy had offended me. I could have killed her. Oh stars.
I covered my face and cried, ashamed for what I nearly did.
