Marshal Mei had entered the bathroom with an angry step.
“Go take a bath. I am joining you in a few moments.”
Kalos wondered why she wanted him to bathe. He obeyed, aware that the time for questions was not come and not welcome.
He undressed and plunged into a hot bath. Marshal Mei entered after him a few minutes later. She had apparently washed herself.
Kalos did not look at her, not so much out of rudeness as out of modesty. He had never seen her naked and was not interested. Fortunately for him, she sat down, so that only her head became visible, and the whitish water hid her body.
“Baron Klein is behind the assassination attempts against me in recent weeks," she said. “The hitman is the one who killed my last paramour.”
Kalos did not know how to receive this news. By way of reply, he asked, “Why are you telling me this?”
“Because it's better for you to hear the truth from me. I'm taking the time to explain everything to you because I don't want anyone to manipulate you. Beware of everything other people say. They will have no qualms about using you against me.”
“Against you?”
“In this palace, nobody cares about you but me. My paramours are my weakness. I have already told you that.”
“Why?”
“I'm a romantic by nature.”
Even though the situation was totally inappropriate, Kalos laughed.
“I apologize... but really... it's too much...” he stammered.
He continued to laugh. Marshal Mei did not take him up.
Suddenly, the door to the bathroom opened. A man entered.
“Ha, here is Lord Agathos," announced Marshal Mei.
Kalos finally saw the figure of his buyer.
“Will you join us?”
“I would love to.”
Lord Agathos’ deep voice sent a shiver through Kalos' body. He was surprised. He secretly watched this man who was taking his clothes off. From his muscular body exuded a masculine strength which intimidated Kalos.
Lord Agathos stood in front of Marshal Mei. His entrance caused only an imperceptible stir in the water.
“Wasn't the intendant of the palace supposed to stay at the Bal?" Marshal Mei innocently asked.
“I was worried about you.”
“That's sweet, but as you can see, everything is fine. Weren't you looking for an excuse to get away?”
“Are you really okay?”
Marshal Mei sighed, “I suppose I'll be a little better when I take care of the killer tomorrow.”
Kalos noticed Marshal Mei's murderous glare.
“Let's change the topic!" she abruptly said. “Kalos, may I present Lord Agathos, the intendant of the palace and my penultimate paramour.”
Kalos was dumbfounded. He looked at Lord Agathos as if he was him for the first time.
“Don't hesitate to ask him for advice to satisfy me”, she continued without the slightest embarrassment.
Kalos did not understand why Marshal Mei was humiliating them when no one was present.
“As you can see, Lord Agathos has a very nice body and is competent enough to...”
“All right, stop it," Kalos interrupted.
Marshal Mei immediately stood up, walked over to him, and pulled his hair back.
“How dare you? You puppy...”
“Ha ha..." he laughed. “Here come the insults when there's no one around. You have not changed at all.”
This last sentence calmed her instantly. She released it and left the bath.
“Lord Agathos will accompany you to my appartements.”
She put on a robe before leaving.
The silence settled.
“You're not afraid of anything.”
Kalos flinched and blushed as he met Lord Agathos' hypnotic gaze.
“Thank you for having stood up for me," he said.
“It was nothing.”
“You are mistaken. Attacking a royal figure is punishable by death.”
“Royal?”
“Marshal Mei is the Empress's cousin.”
“I didn't know that.”
Lord Kalos smiled.
“I don't think it would have stopped you anyway.”
“I've decided not to do anything without fighting back!”
“That's brave but fatal.”
“I'm not afraid to die," Kalos replied. “I have nothing, so I have nothing to lose. I'd rather be a barking puppy.”
Lord Agathos laughed.
“Not to ruin your ambition, but you growl more than you bark.”
He stood up, moved closer to Kalos and put his thumb over his lips.
“I saw that your mouth was beautiful, but I didn't know it was exceptional.”
Kalos became tense. The caress had sent shivers of pleasure through his body.
“But be careful what you say. You could put Marshal Mei in danger.”
“You defend her while she doesn't treat you right.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because it's the only way for me to be free," Lord Agathos said.
Then, he lifted his chin.
“Find what's important to you and then make sure you do everything you can to protect it. It will be better than dying foolishly for an untimely word.”
Kalos looked down and his eyes fell on...
“How are your wrists?" Lord Agathos asked.
“They're still bruised.”
“I'm goint to put some ointment on them.”
They both got out of the bath. Lord Agathos went to a separate room and returned with the life-saving cream and two towels.
They dried themselves without looking at each other and then sat down cross-legged facing each other.
Kalos stretched out his wrists and placed them on the towel that covered his legs. Lord Agathos began to dutifully spread the ointment. Each touch of his finger on Kalos' skin made his heart beat faster.
Kalos could not understand why this man captivated him. The moonbeams that pierced through the stained-glass windows and spread like diamond faces over Lord Agathos’ naked body were probably making him lose his judgment.
Kalos was beginning to get an erection. To his horror, Lord Agathos noticed. He looked into Kalos' confused eyes.
“I..." Kalos said, having no idea what excuse he was going to make up.
“Don't be embarrassed. I was a paramour once.”
Kalos hid his face behind his arms. Lord Agathos moved to stand behind him.
“What are you...”
“I'm going to provide my advice to you.”
“Pardon?”
The former paramour had already begun to act. With his right hand, he stimulated Kalos, with his left hand, he lasciviously massaged the nipples, and with his tongue, he licked the inside of the left ear. Kalos moaned. Several times.
The sensations he was experiencing intoxicated him so much that the new paramour tilted his head back. The former paramour took the opportunity to kiss and lick his neck. Kalos put his hand on Lord Agathos' head.
“This is too much... I'm going to..." he gasped, groaning.
Lord Agathos' right hand became covered with a white liquid. He let Kalos breathe and regain his composure before standing up. He put his clothes back on.
“I am walking you out.”
Ashamed, Kalos put on his evening clothes as quickly as possible. It was only when he emerged from the bathroom that he was able to regain his composure and gradually recognized the way to Marshal Mei's apartments.
“Are you getting used to the palace?" Lord Agathos asked.
“I... hum... not yet.”
“It took me a month.”
“Ha...”
Kalos had no idea how to continue the conversation. Lord Agathos did not insist. He did not want to make him uncomfortable.
The door to the room appeared and they parted by wishing each other a good night.
When Kalos returned, Lord Agathos whispered, "This is going to get complicated.”
Kalos found the red room and the empty bed again. The bay window was open, again. He decided to go outside and found Marshal Mei sprawled on the terrace with another bottle of rum beside her.
“I thought the military didn't drink alcohol.”
“You just can't keep your mouth shut.”
What was important to him?
“How can you protect me if you're attacked? “
“You're the one who's supposed to protect me.”
To be free. Was that even possible for a sex slave?
“Are you going to sleep outside again?”
“I dunno.”
Could he be free by being by her side?
“We can sleep together tonight.”
Marshal Mei raised her head.
“Thank you, Kalos.”
He let her pass and closed the bay window. Then he went to bed.
Under the sheets he felt a hand take his.
“Good night Kalos," Marshal Mei whispered.
“Good night, Duna," Kalos replied.
Kalos saw a tear roll down Duna's cheek. He suddenly felt compassion and took her in his arms.
“I'm sorry about before," Duna apologized, sobbing.
Kalos tightened his embrace and they drifted off to sleep.
Should he do this to be free?
To be continued
