“Long ago, before music ran the world as we know it, and before the stars above lit up space like tiny lightbulbs in the sky, two gods, their names now forgotten to time, created the universe…” Amélie sighed, running a hand through her hair and leaning on her arm, it wasn’t… Great, but it was something, she let out a groan and leaned back in her chair.
Amélie sunk down in her chair and let out a huff. “If things aren’t gonna burn, uhh… Could you read this for me? Tell me if it’s good?” Amélie gave her younger twin puppy dog eyes, Amy grimaced and gestured for Amélie to move over, grabbed another chair and shuffled into place.
“Knowin’ you it’s gonna be all wordy and shit…” Amélie gave Amy’s shoulder a nudge and Amy rolled her eyes. “Not sayin’ your writing is bad! It’s just got.. Lotsa words for my dumb brain, anyways…” Amy shuffled a little more to get comfortable and brought the laptop closer, her back already started to slouch as she began to read.
“They, with their love for creation couldn’t just stop at an empty void, eventually they created our solar system, a way for them to spill their combined creativity into one space. The others would follow suit, but ours seems to be the origins of it all. They soon became bored of being alone and thus they created Rhapsody, their one and only daughter. Soon after, as she matured they created Larghetto and Leggero, two wolves with starry pelts and booming howls who would become her most loyal companions. They also gifted Rhapsody the ability to create life all on her own, as a way to see where their daughter, the physical embodiment of their love of one another, would take her newfound powers.”
Amy stretched, letting out a groan before continuing.
“Rhapsody took after her parents in that regard, she looked at their favourite creation with glee, the planet Earth. She loved the deep oceans they’d made, the forests that breathed, the volcanoes that spilled hot magma on the ground, but to her, something was missing, life, and so she made life, in the form of demons and angels, two beings so similar yet so different, she modelled them after her parents, one full of light, crystalline, hard and almost… inorganic in their form. The other soft, full of muscle and sinew, held together by bone. She loved both of her creations, she loved watching them with glee as she stared in amazement at how they made the land their own and built houses and civilisations, how they would hunt the animals she had made to survive, to her it was lovely, fascinating, something of endless curiosity, something she could call her own.”
“The two gods watched over their daughter, curious to know where she went with the joy of creation, and stumbled upon the living beings on Earth. The one of stone loved what Rhapsody had done with the planet, and they too loved watching the smaller creatures go about their day to day lives, how they’d create things just like the Gods above them would, the other on the other hand couldn’t help but scorn at Rhapsody’s hard work, they hated how the creatures would fight and bicker, and despised how they weren’t all permanent, the concept of death, of change terrified the god whose flesh was soft, malleable and just as easy to malform as the creatures down below.” Amy frowned as she stared at the screen. “I always hated this part…”
“The two gods, no matter how hard Rhapsody pleaded, could never come to an agreement, one loved change and the very concept of said change being passed down to lesser beings while the other hated the very thought of it, their arguments became louder, more violent, and Rhapsody turned away from the two in an attempt to ignore their constant fighting, busying herself further with her work, her want to impress her fellow Gods causing herself to get into a pattern of overworking herself only to be pulled away by her two starry hounds.”
“The two hounds, Larghetto and Leggero pitied their owner, and as the elder gods continued to argue the two wolves combined their strengths, Larghetto’s chest and ribs split in two exposing its golden heart, it beat with the power of a thousand drums and Leggero, its twin, leapt through space, cutting through the cosmos with its claws, they grew sharper, collecting smaller stars as they shredded through the darker void, the two would create the very first perfect resonance, the two elder gods stared on in amazement, as they came to realise that their true strength only shone when they worked together, but their daughter was not so lucky.”
“They looked on in horror as Rhapsody took a mortal form on Earth, having finally found peace in the quiet after growing tired of all the fighting. The two gods grieved as they watched her fiddle with the last bit of power that had remained within her, making four last children who were very special and powerful.”
“There was Allegro the Bright, a child reminiscent of a sparkling gem, with a mind so clever.
Andante the Night, a ghostly son whose heart was as pure as gold.
Alto the Light, a fiery child of Rhapsody who would sing his heart out, a champion in everything that he did.
And Sforzando the Might, a son of nature and kindness, who would work well with everyone he knew.”
“Rhapsody would grow old watching her sons rule kingdoms of their own, Andante ruling over the ghostly folk of Spirit Point, Alto ruling over the competitive bunch of Blackvall, Sforzando ruling over the harmonious circle of Leafdon, and Allegro ruling over the quick-witted few of Abermaw.”
“The two wolves would watch from afar as Rhapsody laid on her deathbed, and with the passing of its beloved owner — feeling very guilt-ridden — Larghetto buried itself deep into Mars’ core, leaving Leggero to sought out its twin amongst the stars, its claws scraping against the bright lights, causing tempo to form even stronger as both elder gods mourned, refusing to lay down to rest until it found Larghetto.”
Amélie twiddled her thumbs with a nervous smile as Amy stopped reading aloud, “So… What do you think?” The older twin asked, pushing her chair away from the desk and pulling it back in as a way to keep herself busy, her grin as obvious as ever. Amy pursed her lips, “Mmmeeeehhhh it’s aight. You know I’m not really into this stuff, right? Maybe you should show Grace instead.”
“B-But your thoughts would be nice too! Just a little something at least?” Amélie whined, “I know you don’t like the story, but was there something you thought needed a bit more work put into?” Amy sighed and got out of her seat, shaking her head, “I gotta go check up on the food, I’ll call ya when it’s done, yeah?” Her sister frowned and gave her a nod, turning back to her desk as Amy left the room.
Amélie slumped in her chair, letting out a sigh.
“Ahh… No use worrying about it, I’ve gotta get ready for tomorrow.”
