As the two entered Grace’s house Amélie was first to step in, rushing over to the kitchen sink to wash her hands. Playing with the dirt was fun, but Amélie was more-so a rather clean person, and the feeling of dirt under her nails was beginning to irk her. With an exhausted huff from all the running, Amélie’s poor body finally slumped onto the couch to rest, and the older demihuman couldn’t help but giggle at Amélie’s splayed out body. “Tired?” Grace spoke, a hint of a smile in her voice, “Tired…” Amélie’s ears perked up as she heard Grace place her jacket on the arm of the couch, and listened to the sound of the backdoors sliding open, her curiosity lifting herself up off the couch, she took a moment to breathe before following Grace right outside.
The sound of footsteps from behind got louder and louder and Grace took notice of them, her head turning back to glance at the other demihuman. “Hm? I thought you were gonna rest,” Grace said softly, “Something the matter?” Amélie shook her head and held onto Grace’s arm, the blog was on her mind right now, and if she couldn’t get this out to anybody she would explode! She opened her mouth and closed it for a few seconds as she recollected her thoughts, “Y-You uhm… my site right, I-I’ve talked about it?” Grace gave her a gentle nod and exhaled through her nose with a smile, finding humour in the fact that a much shorter person was now dragging her along to another place as she spoke. “I’ve mentioned that it was for uni and all, a-and the topic being about resonance, yeah?” Amélie brought Grace over to a garden table, and the two sat themselves down on the chairs as the shorter demon spoke, “I was— I was wondering if you’d like to be my first interviewee…? You don’t have to be of course! I-I just thought that because you’re my closest friend and all, you should be the first person I should interview, s-so…”
Grace’s smile was as apparent as ever, reaching ear to ear as she brought her hands up to her mouth, she thought it was cute that Amélie was asking her to help her with something, of course, it was something she was already used to, but Amélie’s shy expression whenever she would ask for assistance always filled her with joy, along with the closest friend comment that she made as well. It was such a silly thing to smile over, at least that’s what she thought, but Grace was still very much honoured.
“I’d be more than happy to.” She said with a smile, and that alone made Amélie beam, her legs began to kick as she dug into her tote bag to bring her laptop out, and Grace watched in adoration as Amélie practically hopped about as she got everything ready. “This’ll be like a— like an audio interview, it’ll be up on the site for people to listen to, i-is that okay?” Grace gave her a nod and Amélie squealed, readying her questions for her close friend. “I-It’s just questions like what’s your name, what do you do a-and stuff, but it’s not as important as the big one.” Grace clicked her nails against the table as she spoke, “What’s the big one?”
“I’m just gonna ask you about your experiences with resonance and lost resonance, i-if that’s okay! I know that stuff can be personal.” Grace lowered her eyes as she rested her chin on her palm, “Lost resonance, hm?” She gave it some thought before giving her younger friend an answer, “Yeah it’s alright, it’s more embarrassing than it is bad, I can answer that for you.” She said with a smile, Amélie got her laptop ready for the interview and looked at Grace with a huge grin on her face, the other demihuman was super excited to finally get a move on with her blog, and this was definitely how she wanted it to start. The interview began with a short introduction with Amélie, along with a little explanation, and soon enough came the question of what Grace does for a living, and Grace simply responded with choreography and gardening.
She was noticeably relaxed as she went into more detail about her gardening, but she seemed rather… sad around such a topic. “Well… I started my garden and my little collection of critters because I must admit I do suffer a bit of empty nest syndrome! I'd love to have kids one day but... Ahh it's not really a possibility.” She said softly, Amélie’s ears went down as she finally understood why Grace seemed a little upset, well for one what she suspected about kids was true, but on the other hand seeing her friend bummed out over such a thing was pretty disheartening.
“O-Oh I— I’m sorry…“ Amélie stammered, she reached out for her friend’s hand to comfort her, but Grace closed her eyes and shook her head slowly with a small smile, reaching her arm out to ruffle Amélie’s hair, “No apologies, at least I’ve got my little wolf!” Amélie squeaked and held onto the plant demon’s arm, lifting it off her head as her cheeks went red, “G-Grace I’m recording!” she whined, “Aghhh I think I gotta cut that part out…!”
“Oh I’m sure no one’ll mind! Shouldn’t this feel a little… hm, homely?” Amélie pouted as she slumped over, giving Grace a small whimper, “W-Well if it was my own personal blog i-it probably should, b-but this is for an assignment,” Amélie mumbled the rest as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “Also it’s embarrassing…” Grace let out a snicker, “Oh that’s nothing to be embarrassed about! Wouldn’t you want people to know that your first interviewee is a dear friend of yours?” The shorter demihuman grumbled before hiding her face in Grace’s chest, and Grace gave her a gentle smile as she ran her hands through Amélie’s hair, “Comfy?” Was all that the plant demon spoke, and Amélie only sunk further into her chest.
“I’m still recording…” That earned another chuckle from Grace as she wrapped an arm over Amélie, she rubbed her back for a moment as she let Amélie lean into her, exhaling slowly as she got ready to get up. “You wanna take a quick break? We can head inside and get something warm to drink, what about a cuppa?” Amélie gave her a small nod and pulled away from Grace to stand up, and as the two made their way back inside, Grace called out for Petunia and smiled as the fluffy fellow ran towards her, closing the doors slowly as Amélie sat herself down on the couch.
With an exhale Grace sat right beside her small friend, bringing her in for a quick hug before heading into the kitchen. Amélie wanted to say something to clear the silence but didn’t deem the topics in mind worthy, instead finding comfort in watching Petunia hop up on the couch and rub herself against her leg. She’d usually let out a sound of displeasure over something swiping against any part of her body really, as the slightest touch to her skin felt very ticklish, but Petunia was an exception. How could she shoo away such a cute little thing? She fiddled with her fingers with her thoughts in mind until Grace came back with mugs, one with tea and one with coffee, the coffee being for the shorter demihuman. She thanked Grace as she grabbed her mug and held it above her lap, a small smile on her face as Petunia began to purr.
“So, how’s Amy?” Grace started, stirring her tea with a spoon, Amélie blew into her coffee as she thought to herself, “Well she’s a little stubborn as usual. You— you know how she is.” Grace took a sip from her mug before stirring once more, “Is she alright I mean?” Amélie looked up from Petunia, her jaw slightly agape as she glanced down for a moment, finding the right words. “A-Ah… Uhm… She’s okay, yeah! Just slow today. Stars I-I don’t think she texted me at all yet actually.” The older demon hummed before setting her mug down and calling Petunia over, giving her chin a good scratch. “She could just be having a bad day, you did make her worry at the gala after all.” Amélie let out a nervous laugh, “R-Right, sorry.”
“Don’t apologise to me, if anything you should be apologising to Amy, she was worried sick about you.” The shorter demihuman squeezed her mug as she lowered her eyes to the coffee table, “I-I know… I’ll be sure to. I just don’t understand why she’s been like that recently. It’s not like she really cares about anything, I-I mean she does, but–”
Amélie paused as she heard the clinks of a teaspoon against a mug, she swallowed as she watched Grace’s eyes lower down, her posture hunched yet tense for such a tall person. “Something tells me you don’t know your sister that well, do you?” Amélie pressed her mug into her lap as she replied with uncertainty, “Wh-What do you mean?” She was left unnerved as Grace simply stood up from the couch and offered her hand to her, the younger demihuman felt her chest squeeze tightly as she placed her mug down on the table and let the plant demon lead the way back outside into the garden, all the way far back to what appeared to be a closed off greenhouse.
“Here.” Grace spoke as she gently nudged Amélie backwards to give her board some space to spring up, she hummed as buds of white roses bloomed wherever her feet danced, and soon enough an entrance to the greenhouse revealed itself, and Amélie’s eyes lit up to the sight of some beautiful pink hydrangeas.
The ones her sister planted.
Amélie marvelled at the sight, it had only been months since Amy’s last visit, and yet the flowers she planted looked stunning. “Sure,” Grace started, “I may be the one tending to these, but it was your sister who placed them in good soil. She might not know that of course, but her heart’s always in the right place.”
Grace took a breath in before she continued, “What I’m trying to say is, it might not seem like she cares, but deep down she wants what’s best for you, and how she shows that doesn’t matter, it’s the thought that counts.” Amélie looked at the hydrangeas for a little longer before smiling softly, “I wouldn’t have– have thought about it like that, huh…” she croaked, her voice low as she felt her throat tighten, “I-I guess you’re right.”
Grace chuckled, “Here’s where I would joke around and say ‘when am I not?’, but I’d want you to focus on this instead, think about it some more for me, yeah?” Amélie’s ears went down as she looked unsure, “I-I don’t know, you had to point it out for me to even realise…” The taller demihuman patted her back, “It’s not your fault you didn’t realise, sometimes it’s just hard for people to notice things, and I’m no exception either, so don’t blame yourself for that, alright?”
Amélie gave Grace a small nod and with a reassured smile the older demon ruffled her hair again, “Now, did you want to keep going with the interview?” Grace asked, ushering her back inside the house. Amélie smiled and leaned her head against Grace’s side, glad that she got to see the hydrangeas once more.
“...Yeah, thanks.”
