Is it your subconscious acting out on your most basest of desires?
Is it some glorious theatre where your mind travels to?
Is it just a temporary respite away from the harshness of reality?
I like to think that maybe it’s just some unearthly being trying to make you smile.
So then what are nightmares?
Is it your subconscious acting out on your most basest of fears?
Is it some horror filled film where your mind travels to?
Is it just a temporary prison that grounds you to the harshness of reality?
I believe that maybe they are the work of some unhuman being, trying to track and hunt you down, attempting to trap you in the nightmare forever to draw power from your fear, your anxiety, your life.
Because when you wake up in a cold sweat, a scream trapped in your throat, the fear you felt before is still there. You’ve escaped the nightmare once again, only the truth is, it’s followed you, trying to discover new habits and fears to take advantage of to hold you down once more the next time you sleep.
That fear of ‘Is there someone, something, behind me?’ that trails after you when you’re alone, that feeling of being watched. Because the nightmare is learning, growing and changing.
And then before you know it, you feel that fear everywhere you go. In your house, in the streets, in the hallway that looks darker than normal, in your very memories themselves.
And of course, when you’re reading something by yourself and you can feel something behind your chair, staring at your very soul.
Nightmares will affect us in ways we can’t even begin to explain, and yet...
We may not even remember them.
But they will remember you.
And they will return.
The nightmares have crossed over into the physical world.
I have no idea what just happened I was trying to write something lighthearted for today and this just created itself. Any and all feedback appreciated I guess?
Sweet dreams everyone!
As always, WHY ARE YOU HERE?!
